Skubal won't start as scheduled Friday versus the Rockies after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Skubal's outing should be pushed back only one day since the contest will be made up via a doubleheader Saturday. The 25-year-old has a 3.72 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB over 9.2 innings through his first two starts of 2022.

Whitlock will start Saturday's game against the Rays, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Tanner Houck's decision not to vaccinate himself against COVID-19 has forced the Red Sox to shuffle their rotation around, as he'll be ineligible to cross the border into Canada when the team travels to Toronto next week. Whitlock will make a spot start as part of that shuffling. Exactly how long he'll be able to pitch is not yet clear, though he did make a four-inning relief appearance back on April 12, which suggests he won't be significantly limited Saturday.

Kaprielian (shoulder) allowed four earned runs on nine hits and a walk over 4.2 innings in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Wednesday. He struck out five.

Kaprielian's final line underscores the fact he pitched to some contact, but considering the move up to Triple-A and the hitter-friendly environment of the Pacific Coast League, the so-so outing for the recovering right-hander wasn't completely surprising. Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports Kaprielian worked up to 78 pitches during the outing and still has a chance to rejoin the Athletics next week, although the next step in his rehab process is still to be determined.

Baz (elbow) has resumed throwing and completed a session on flat ground from 75 feet April 16, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Baz underwent arthroscopic elbow surgery in late March and was ultimately shifted to the 60-day injured list April 16. He'll be eligible to be activated June 6, though it remains unclear whether he will be ready to retake the mound at that point.

Carter is being built up in extended spring training after dealing with minor chest discomfort, Sam Dykstra of MLB.com reports.

He didn't pitch last season after the Jays' selected him with the 152nd overall pick in the draft. The big righty will likely be assigned to Single-A Dunedin once he's fully built up.

Gonzales did not factor in the decision against Texas on Thursday, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out six.

Seattle staked Gonzales to a first-inning five-run lead, but he gave a pair of those runs back in the second frame before getting through the third and fourth unscathed. Things fell apart for the left-hander in the fifth, however, when his infield committed three errors behind him. Gonzales had a chance to get out of the mess allowing just one run, but he gave up three straight two-out, extra-base hits -- including a two-run homer off the bat of Nick Solak -- to be chased from the contest. His fantasy managers will be comforted by the fact that just two of the six runs he yielded were earned, and he also managed six strikeouts in the outing. Gonzales' next start is tentatively scheduled to come Wednesday in Tampa Bay.

Cease (2-1) allowed four earned runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three across 5.1 innings to take the loss Thursday against the Guardians.

Cease surrendered his first home run of the season in the third inning to Franmil Reyes, which accounted for two of his earned runs. The trouble continued when he allowed six runners to reach base across his final 1.1 frames, resulting in two additional runs being scored. While Cease has largely been strong to begin the season, he has issued multiple free passes in all three of his starts so far. Even so, he has a strong 3.38 ERA with a 19:7 K:BB across 16 innings early on in the campaign.

Montgomery (0-1) allowed one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out five across six innings to take the loss Thursday against the Tigers.

Montgomery was excellent in the start, with the only earned run he allowed coming in the fourth frame stemming from a leadoff walk. He otherwise stayed out of trouble, limiting the Tigers to only one extra-base hit while also racking up 14 swinging strikes on 86 pitches. Montgomery has turned in consecutive outings of at least five innings, during which he's allowed just one run. He's still looking for his first win of the year and is currently projected to take his next turn through the rotation Wednesday against Baltimore.

Wells (0-2) took the loss after allowing two runs on five hits over 2.1 innings in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the A's.

Wells appeared to right the ship after a dreadful beginning of the season, but he was pulled early Thursday for the second time in 11 days. He's also suffering from control issues with six walks across eight innings this season. Wells figures to remain in the rotation for now with Dean Kremer (oblique) and John Means (elbow) not expected back anytime soon.

Blackburn (2-0) earned the win over Baltimore on Thursday, allowing one run and three hits while striking out four.

Blackburn lowered his ERA to 1.80 thanks to the solid outing, although his second win was in jeopardy after an offensive surge from the Orioles in the seventh and eighth innings. It wouldn't be the first time his bullpen betrayed him, as they cost him a win after five solid innings in his last appearance on the mound against the Rays. After looking like more of a desperation option in Oakland's rotation, Blackburn has pitched well early in 2022 with a 14:1 K:BB and 1.39 FIP.
