The Yankees will promote Gil from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Thursday's game against the White Sox in Chicago, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Gil is likely just in line for one start with the Yankees, who are forced to add a temporarily sixth starter to the mix after last Sunday's doubleheader with the Rangers created a stretch of six games in five days. The 23-year-old Gil impressed with a 3.07 ERA and 38 strikeouts over 29.1 innings in six starts with the big club in 2021, but he hasn't come close to replicating that success at Triple-A this season. Through his 17 innings at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Gil has given up 19 runs (18 earned) on 18 hits and 12 walks while striking out 25.

Paddack (elbow) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday.

The move was an expected one after it was announced earlier in the day that Paddack was seeking a second opinion on his elbow and could require surgery. The decision on his treatment plan has not yet been made, but he'll miss at least one turn in the rotation and likely several more. Jharel Cotton was recalled to take Paddack's place on the roster.

Faedo was called up as expected ahead of his scheduled start in the second half of Tuesday's doubleheader against Oakland.

Faedo made his major-league debut in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Pirates on Wednesday, escaping with two runs allowed in five innings despite striking out just one batter and giving up eight hits. He'll face another of the league's lesser lineups in his second career start.

Paddack is getting a second opinion on his inflamed right elbow, with surgery potentially on the table, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Paddack has been a serviceable starter for the Twins this season, posting a 4.03 ERA through five starts and a 1.69 FIP that suggested things could have been much better. Unfortunately, it looks like things might instead get much worse. He's yet to be placed on the injured list or even officially ruled out for his next start, but the fact that surgery is being considered suggests that a long absence could be coming. If Tommy John surgery winds up being the required procedure, Paddack would miss all of this season as well as the majority of the next, though even a lesser elbow surgery could still wipe out a large portion of this season.

Irvin (shoulder) is slated to throw a side session before the team determines the next step in his rehab process, the Associated Press reports.

The southpaw went on the injured list Thursday with what was determined to be shoulder tendonitis. Irvin reportedly could return when first eligible later this month, so he may not require a rehab assignment if he can continue to demonstrate improvement in his throwing sessions.

Flexen (1-5) took the loss Monday, coughing up six runs on nine hits and a walk over five innings as the Mariners were routed 9-0 by the Phillies. He struck out five.

Four of the nine hits off Flexen went for extra bases, including homers by Jean Segura and Rhys Hoskins. The right-hander hadn't allowed more than three runs in any of his five prior outings this season, but his low 15.7 percent strikeout rate gives him little margin for error. His hard-hit and barrel rates rank in the bottom 25th percentile of the league. Flexen will carry a 4.24 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 22:10 K:BB through 34 innings into his next start.

Syndergaard (3-1) picked up the win Monday, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk over 5.1 innings in an 11-3 victory over the Rays. He struck out seven.

Aside from a solo shot by Randy Arozarena in the fourth inning, Syndergaard was able to stifle the Tampa Bay offense long enough for the Los Angeles offense to get rolling. The seven strikeouts were a season high for the right-hander, and while he hasn't yet shown the dominance he flashed as a Met prior to Tommy John surgery, he's otherwise making a remarkable comeback with a 2.45 ERA and 1.06 WHIP through his first 29.1 innings as an Angel.

Springs (1-1) took the loss Monday as the Rays were downed 11-3 by the Angels, allowing three runs on three hits over four innings. He struck out four.

Making his second start of the season, the southpaw kept the Angels off the board for three frames before serving up a three-run shot to Jared Walsh with two outs in the fourth. Springs got the hook after 57 pitches (41 strikes), and while his 2.12 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 18:3 K:BB through 17 innings on the season are all strong numbers, his fantasy value will be limited in the rotation until he gets stretched out a little more and can last long enough to qualify for a win.

Kopech allowed one unearned run on two hits and two walks over six innings in Monday's loss to Cleveland. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.

Kopech coughed up a run on a fielding error in the first inning before keeping the Guardians off the board for the next five frames. It was his longest outing of the year and he lowered his season ERA to 0.93 through 29 innings. The 6-foot-3 righty has yet to allow more than two runs in any of his six outings to date. Kopech is lined up to face the Yankees at home this weekend.

Blackburn (4-0) allowed four hits over 6.2 shutout innings, striking out three and earning a win over Detroit on Monday.

Blackburn allowed just one extra-base hit and never faced much danger against the struggling Tigers. The 28-year-old righty has now allowed two or fewer runs in five of six starts to begin the season. His 6.2 innings and 88 pitches thrown Monday were both season highs. Blackburn will carry an impressive 1.74 ERA into his projected matchup at home against the Angels this weekend.
