The Yankees will call up Sears from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to start Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Although the Yankees' starters are fully healthy, Sears will make a spot start against the Athletics to give the team's other starters an additional day of rest. Over his first three appearances (one start) of the season, the southpaw struck out seven in seven scoreless innings. Sears is likely to be returned to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre following Tuesday's outing.

The Red Sox placed Houck (personal) on the restricted list Monday.

Houck's placement on the list was fully expected, as he was previously inactive for the Red Sox's series in Toronto in late April due to his vaccination status. Since Houck remains unvaccinated two months later, he won't be eligible to cross the Canadian border and will be unavailable for the entire three-game series in Toronto. John Schreiber and Matt Strahm look like the top options to pick up saves before Houck returns to the fold for the Red Sox's three-game series against the Cubs this weekend.

Seabold was recalled from Triple-A Worcester ahead of Monday's game against the Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old will make his season debut as Monday's starter in Toronto after Kutter Crawford was sent down Sunday. Seabold has made 11 starts in Worcester this year and has posted a 2.09 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 51.2 innings. Whether he makes another return through the rotation following Monday's start likely depends on when Garrett Whitlock (hip) and Nathan Eovaldi (back) are cleared to return.

Ryu (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Monday.

Ryu's shift to the 60-day IL is simply procedural, as the southpaw underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-June and will be sidelined until at least the second half of the 2023 season. The 35-year-old is entering the final season of his four-year, $80 million contract with Toronto in 2023.

The Red Sox are expected to place Houck on the restricted list prior to Monday's series opener in Toronto, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Because he remains unvaccinated against COVID-19, Houck won't be eligible to cross the Canadian border and will miss the Red Sox's second series of the season in Toronto after he was previously unavailable for the four-game set at Rogers Centre in late April. While the team is in Canada, Houck will throw a live batting practice session in Boston to stay sharp before he's eligible to rejoin the Red Sox in Chicago for their series with the Cubs that begins Friday. Houck has emerged as Boston's preferred option at closer over the past three weeks, but John Schreiber and Matt Strahm will likely represent the best bets to pick up save chances during the Toronto series.

Valdez is listed as the Astros' starting pitcher for Tuesday's series opener in New York against the Mets, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Luis Garcia was initially in line to start the Astros' first game of the week, but he's instead been pushed back two days in the schedule to start the team's standalone game against the Yankees in Houston on Thursday. With Valdez moving up a day in the pitching schedule as a result of the adjustment, he'll now be on tap for a two-start week. His second turn is expected to come Sunday at home against the Angels.

The Astros elected to push Garcia back in their pitching schedule, with the right-hander now in line to make his next start Thursday against the Yankees in Houston rather than Tuesday against the Mets in New York, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Though Garcia will be trading a road start for a home start, fantasy managers likely would have preferred that the 25-year-old stayed on the schedule for Tuesday, as he would have lined up for a two-start week. The two step is now likely to fall to Framber Valdez, who will take the hill for the series opener versus the Mets.

Ryan (6-3) earned the win against the Rockies on Sunday, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking one over five innings.

Ryan managed to escape Sunday's contest with the win despite allowing eight hits and striking out only one batter. He threw 64 of 102 pitches for strikes across five frames. Two runs came thanks to RBI doubles and the other on a solo shot from Charlie Blackmon. Ryan has lasted more than five innings five times in 11 games this season. The righty will take a 3.20 ERA into his next appearance.

Sale (rib cage) will throw three innings in a rehab start for Double-A Portland on Thursday, Henry Palattella of MLB.com reports.

Sale made two rehab starts for Boston's affiliate in the Florida Complex League, most recently throwing 2.2 innings Saturday. The lefty will return to Boston for a bullpen session Monday before heading north to Portland (Maine). It looks like Sale is being prepped to be part of Boston's roster after the All-Star break.

Berrios (5-4) took the loss to the Brewers on Sunday, allowing eight runs on eight hits while striking out one and walking two across 2.2 innings.

It was another rough outing for Berrios as he allowed eight runs in 2.2 innings just one game after allowing six runs in four innings. Berrios threw 42 of 66 pitches for strikes in Sunday's contest. The righty has allowed three or more earned runs in nine of 15 appearances this season and possesses a 5.86 ERA.
