  • Rays' Shane McClanahan: Throws off mound

McClanahan (shoulder) felt good after throwing 15-to-20 pitches off a mound Tuesday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

After receiving a cortisone injection to help his shoulder recover, McClanahan has progressed rather quickly during his rehab process and began throwing Sunday. It looks increasingly likely that he will spend the minimum amount of time on the 15-day injured list.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Orioles' Jordan Lyles: No timetable for return

Lyles (illness) is beginning to feel better, though there is no plan in place for when he will return, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

Lyles was a late scratch from the second game of Monday's doubleheader against Toronto after he woke up not feeling 100 percent. Once Lyles gets closer to fully recovering from his illness, the Orioles will determine when he can make his next start. According to Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun, the veteran right-hander isn't listed among the probable starters for this weekend, so his next chance to pitch could come next Tuesday in Washington.

  • Gerrit Cole SP | NYY

Yankees' Gerrit Cole: Pushed back by postponement

Cole will not start Tuesday against the Twins with the game being postponed "due to the forecast of sustained inclement weather."

While Cole will not take the ball Tuesday, he will presumably have to wait only one more day, as the postponed contest is scheduled to be made up Wednesday as part of a doubleheader. It remains to be seen whether Cole will start the afternoon affair or the nightcap.

  • Joe Ryan SP | MIN

Twins' Joe Ryan: Tuesday's start postponed

Tuesday's game between the Twins and Yankees was postponed due to rain and Ryan will start in a doubleheader Wednesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

He will end up getting a couple extra days of rest in between starts. Ryan had a 4.13 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41:10 K:BB in 32.2 innings across six August starts.

  • Rays' Drew Rasmussen: Moves to paternity list

The Rays officially placed Rasmussen (personal) on the paternity list Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The transaction opens up a spot on the 28-man active roster for Yonny Chirinos (elbow), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. Rasmussen had been scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Red Sox, but after he left the team in anticipation of the birth of his first child, the Rays will have JT Chargois serve as their opening pitcher. Chirinos, meanwhile, built up to three innings in his most recent rehab start Thursday and could be deployed behind Chargois as a primary pitcher. Rasmussen will be away from the Rays for the next 1-to-3 days and could reclaim a rotation spot this weekend against the Yankees.

  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Activated from injured list

Chirinos (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

It's been a long road back for Chirinos, who underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2020. He's finally ready to resume pitching for the big club after recently wrapping up a nine-outing rehab assignment with three of the Rays' affiliates. It's not exactly clear what role he will work in the rest of the way, but Chirinos could be deployed as a primary pitcher out of the bullpen behind opener JT Chargois in Tuesday's game against the Red Sox. Chirinos will be available on four days' rest and built up to three innings in his most recent rehab start for Triple-A Durham.

  • Tanner Bibee SP | CLE

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Dominating in Double-A

Bibee has put up a 1.29 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 57:9 K:BB through 55.2 innings in 10 starts since his promotion to Double-A Akron.

Those are spectacular returns, though they come with the caveat that Bibee hasn't struck out nearly as many hitters as he did while cruising through High-A -- his K/9 at the lower level was 13.1, and it's 9.3 in Double-A. The other caveat is that Bibee is a 23-year-old college arm in his first professional season. That said, he's touched 99 mph with his fastball this year, and there's certainly room for that in the big leagues. Bibee's ultimate role remains an open question, but he's showing great command of good stuff, and that makes him an intriguing dynasty prospect.

  • Rays' Drew Rasmussen: Scratched from Tuesday's start

Rasmussen will not start Tuesday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Rasmussen's wife is expecting the couple's first child, and Rasmussen was excused from the team to be with his growing family. It remains to be seen both who will start Tuesday in his place and when he will take the ball next.

  • Taj Bradley SP | MIN

Rays' Taj Bradley: Somewhat uneven Triple-A results

Bradley has put up a 4.50 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 34:10 K:BB through eight starts (36 innings) since his promotion to Triple-A Durham.

A handful of clunkers have damaged his ratios, but Bradley obviously hasn't been nearly as dominant as he was in Double-A, with his K/9 having fallen by more than two full points (from 10.7 to 8.5) and his HR/9 having risen dramatically (from 0.5 to 1.8). That said, Bradley has been a fast riser, so it's not entirely unexpected for the 21-year-old to encounter some growing pains at the highest level of minor-league baseball. After all, he's more than six years younger than the average player in the International League. The upside here remains sky high.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Collects win No. 10

Berrios (10-5) picked up the win in the second game of Monday's doubleheader sweep of the Orioles, giving up three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander wasn't dominant, but Berrios got plenty of run support in an eventual 8-4 victory as he put together his third quality start in his last four outings. He seems to have put his struggles from earlier in the year behind him for the most part, and just in time for the Blue Jays' playoff push -- Berrios has posted a 3.33 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB through 24.1 innings over that four-start stretch.
