Brown (2-0) earned the victory Tuesday in Detroit, striking out six in six innings while allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.

Brown followed his stellar big-league debut with another strong start, inducing two double-play groundballs and retiring 10 of the last 11 batters he faced on the way to his second victory. After making just four starts of six innings or more in his 14 minor-league starts, he's tossed six innings in each of his first two big-league outings. With Justin Verlander (calf) hoping to return to the rotation this weekend, Brown's next appearance may come in relief.

Suarez (6-7) took the loss Tuesday in Cleveland, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out three in 5.1 innings.

Suarez scattered three singles over the first four innings while holding the Guardians scoreless. Cleveland got on the board in the fifth with a sacrifice fly and Oscar Gonzalez launched a two-run homer in the sixth. Suarez faded towards the end of the outing and allowed six of the last 10 batters he faced to record a hit. Tuesday's outing was fairly representative of the 24-year-old's season as he's compiled a 3.20 ERA in the first four innings of outings and a 6.00 ERA in the fifth inning or later. His next start will likely be early next week in Texas.

Civale (forearm) is targeting a Sept. 20 return against the White Sox, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

He hasn't pitched since Aug. 28 due to forearm inflammation, but it sounds like Civale could still make a handful of starts before the end of the season. If he did return Sept. 20, he could make two starts that week if the Guardians are operating with a five-man rotation.

Chirinos will start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Considering Chirinos has not thrown more than three innings in a game this season, including in the minors, he is unlikely to go deep enough to qualify for the win opposite Alek Manoah. Josh Fleming is a strong candidate to piggyback Chirinos.

Manoah (illness) will start Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays with no restrictions, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

He was originally scheduled to start Game 1 but was scratched with a stomach bug. Manoah should be deployed as usual for the nightcap.

Eovaldi (shoulder) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

He has been playing catch and throwing bullpen sessions, so this will mark another step in his throwing program. It's unclear how much more work Eovaldi will do on the side before coming off the injured list.

Manoah is dealing with an illness, according to Hazel Mae of Sportsnet, and will not start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays.

Manoah was expected to take the ball in the first game of Tuesday's twin bill, but his illness will prevent him from doing so, and Julian Merryweather will open the game instead. Manoah is receiving treatment, and there remains a chance he could start the second contest on Tuesday's schedule.

Berrios didn't factor into the decision in Monday's win over the Rays, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out four.

The Blue Jays gave Berrios an extra day of rest to set him up for a key AL East clash rather than having him face the Rangers on Sunday, and the right-hander responded with his fourth quality start in his last five outings. He sports a 2.93 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB through 30.2 innings over that stretch, and while his brutal first half continues to muddy his overall numbers, Berrios appears to be rounding into form just in time for a playoff push.

Chirinos was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and will likely start the second game of the doubleheader in Toronto, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

He is up as the 29th man, so Chirinos will likely either start or work as the primary pitcher in Game 2 and then be bumped off the active roster. Chirinos tossed three scoreless innings while striking out four and allowing five baserunners in three innings last week against the Red Sox in his lone MLB appearance of the season.

Valdez (15-5) allowed six hits and a walk during a complete-game shutout Monday, striking out eight and earning a win over Detroit.

Aside from a small jam in the first inning, Valdez didn't face much of a threat during his dominant victory. The 28-year-old southpaw tossed 72 of 107 pitches for strikes and forced 16 whiffs. He allowed three or fewer earned runs for the 24th consecutive start and lowered his season ERA to a stellar 2.50 with a 169:61 K:BB through 179.2 frames. He's struck out at least eight batters in four straight outings. Valdez is scheduled to start in Tampa Bay in his next outing.
