Gausman tossed six scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out eight in Wednesday's extra-inning loss to the Phillies. He did not factor into the decision.

Gausman was back in full command, blanking the Phillies over six frames while striking out at least eight batters for the third time in his last five starts. He came into the contest having surrendered 10 runs over 12.1 innings in his last two outings, returning to form Wednesday. The 31-year-old has been up and down since the beginning of August, producing six quality starts while allowing four or more runs in each of his other four outings over that span. Gausman now owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.24 WHIP with 194 strikeouts over 165.1 innings in 29 starts this year.

Dunning (4-8) earned the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk over five innings against the Angels. He struck out eight.

The night got off to a rough start for Dunning as Taylor Ward tagged him for a two-run home run in the first inning, but he settled in nicely after that point. He surrendered just one hit and did not allow a run over the next four innings on his way to his fourth win. Dunning had looked shaky in his previous seven starts, recording a 5.97 ERA and 1.76 WHIP through 34.2 innings in that stretch, so it was nice to see him get back on track. He will look to stay in the win column in his next scheduled start, which is tentatively scheduled against Seattle next week.

Kluber tossed seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk while striking out two in Wednesday's loss to the Astros. He did not factor into the decision.

Kluber went seven strong Wednesday, surrendering just one run on an Aledmys Diaz first-inning single. The 36-year-old rebounded well after a couple tough starts, producing his fifth quality start in his last seven starts. Kluber now owns a 4.30 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with 130 punchouts over 155 innings in 29 starts this season.

Severino (6-3) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk over five innings with six strikeouts against the Pirates.

Severino looked good in his return from the injured list , as he had little trouble with the Pittsburgh lineup. He needed just 64 pitches to hold the opposition to three baserunners through five innings. The Yankees were up 6-1 when manager Aaron Boone took Severino out of the game, so it is possible they would have let him go longer if the game were more competitive. He is tentatively scheduled to face off against Toronto next week in what could be a two-start period for him.

McCullers (4-1) got the win after he pitched seven innings, surrendering two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight Wednesday versus Tampa Bay.

McCullers gave up one run in the sixth frame before Isaac Paredes took him deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning, accounting for the final tally against him in the contest. The right-hander has yet to allow more than three runs in any outing since making his season debut Aug. 13, making seven starts over that stretch. He now owns a 2.38 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 45 punchouts over 41.2 innings this year.

Lyles (11-11) earned the win Wednesday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks with six strikeouts over nine innings against the Tigers.

Lyles needed just 94 pitches to throw a complete game and earn his 11th win of the season, with the only damage on the night coming from a solo home run off the bat of Kerry Carpenter in the seventh inning. The complete game is Lyles' first of the season and comes as he had surrendered 21 earned runs through 30.2 innings over his previous six starts. He likely next lines up to face Boston next week in what could be a two-start period.

Manning (2-3) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs (three earned) on four hits and five walks over 5.1 innings against the Orioles. He struck out four.

For just the second time this season, Manning allowed more walks than strikeouts as he never found his groove and suffered his third loss of the season. The five walks he issued tied for the most he's allowed in a single start in his young career. Manning still owns a 3.43 ERA and 1.17 WHIP and will try to get back on track in his next start, which figures to come against the Royals next week.

Williams finished the 2022 season with a 1.96 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 149:40 K:BB over 115 innings between High-A and Double-A.

After putting up a 1.40 ERA, 0.867 WHIP and 67:14 K:BB in nine starts for High-A Lake County, he posted a 2.31 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 82:26 K:BB in 16 outings for Double-A Akron. The 23rd overall pick in last year's draft, Williams certainly delivered a remarkable pro debut this season, and as a college arm who's risen quickly through the organization, he stands a chance of making his MLB debut as soon as the middle of next year.

Severino (lat) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's start against the Pirates.

Severino sustained a right lat strain in mid-July but recently made three minor-league starts during a rehab assignment and posted a 3.48 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 10.1 innings. The right-hander tossed just 57 pitches in 4.1 innings during his most recent rehab start, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him on a pitch count Wednesday.

The Red Sox recalled Seabold from Triple-A Worcester ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday in Cincinnati.

Boston moved reliever Garrett Whitlock (hip) to the 15-day injured list to open up a spot on the 28-man active roster for Seabold, who is rejoining the big club for the first time in the second half. While making three starts for the Red Sox prior to the All-Star break, Seabold delivered an 11.91 ERA and 2.56 WHIP in 11.1 innings.
