Dunning (2-0) allowed two runs on three hits and struck out one over 3.1 innings to pick up Friday's win over the Yankees. He also hit a batter and threw a wild pitch.

Dunning came in for injured starter Jacob deGrom (forearm) during the middle of the fourth inning when the Rangers were up, 5-0. It was the second time this season that the multi-inning reliever picked up a win in an injury-shortened start by deGrom. Dunning is the most likely candidate to enter the rotation if deGrom's injury turns out to be more sinister than the wrist injury that forced him to leave a game against Kansas City on April 17.

Valdez (2-3) took the loss Friday, allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings against the Phillies. He struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Valdez had another solid outing, but Houston's lack of run support turned it into an undeserved loss. The southpaw has not walked anyone in either of his last two starts, both of which lasted seven innings. The 29-year-old has generally been reliable, posting a 2.54 ERA and 1.15 WHIP to start off the year.

Bieber (2-1) earned a win over Boston on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings. He struck out four batters.

Bieber recorded exactly four punchouts for the fourth straight game. He's now sporting a lackluster 26:11 K:BB through 37.2 frames this season, and his 6.2 K/9 mark would be the lowest of his career. Bieber also forced just six whiffs, tying his season low. However, the 27-year-old has a solid 3.11 ERA and has given up three or fewer runs in each of his six outings. Bieber is projected to face the Twins at home next week.

Anderson did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing one run on five hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against Milwaukee. He struck out seven.

Entering Friday, Anderson had allowed five or more earned runs in three consecutive starts. He rebounded nicely against Milwaukee with his longest outing and most strikeouts of the season. The lefty lowered his ERA to 5.74, which doesn't compare well to his career-best 2.57 ERA from last season.

Chirinos will work as the primary pitcher out of the bullpen behind opener Calvin Faucher in Saturday's game against the White Sox, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Chirinos is filling a hole in the Tampa Bay rotation, but the right-hander won't get a traditional start. Faucher is instead getting the starting nod and will most likely work one or two innings before giving way to Chirinos, who should be capable of providing length for Tampa Bay after working between two and 3.2 innings in his prior three outings this season.

Schmidt (0-3) took the loss Friday, allowing five runs on 10 hits and one walk over five innings against the Rangers. He struck out eight.

Schmidt made it through five innings for the second consecutive start, but the ight-hander was shelled and his hits and earned runs allowed were both season highs. Schmidt did collect eight strikeouts and is up to 32 punchouts in 25 innings. However, his ERA is a disappointing 6.84.

Valdez (2-3) took the loss Friday, allowing three runs on eight hits over seven innings against Philadelphia. He struck out three.

Valdez picked up a quality start, but it wasn't a dominant performance. The lefty allowed eight hits, tying a season high, while striking out a season-low three batters. Kyle Schwarber took Valdez deep in the first inning, the second left-handed batter to homer off the Houston ace this season. Only one lefty hit a homer off Valdez in 2022.

The Rangers announced that deGrom left Friday's start against the Rangers with forearm tightness, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. He allowed no runs over 3.2 innings with one walk and two strikeouts before leaving.

DeGrom has now left two of his last three starts with injuries, as he dealt with wrist soreness earlier in the campaign. The right-hander assuredly will undergo imaging to check for structural damage, and while he should be considered day-to-day for now, a trip to the injured list cannot be ruled out at this point.

Lyles (0-5) allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks over four innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against Minnesota.

Things got off to a poor start when Max Kepler took Lyles deep in the first inning. Most of the damage came in the fourth inning however, headlined by Jorge Polanco's three-run shot. Lyles has allowed at least four runs in four of his six starts this year and is now sporting an ugly 6.11 ERA through 35.1 frames. He's expected to face the Orioles at home next week.

Lopez (2-2) earned a win over the Royals on Friday. He struck out seven batters while allowing six runs on eight hits and a walk over six-plus frames.

Lopez gave up two runs through five innings before Kansas City's lineup figured him out late. He allowed two runs in the sixth, including Salvador Perez's solo homer, and was charged with two more in the seventh before recording an out. Lopez is now sporting a 4.00 ERA after being tagged with 11 runs over his last two starts. He's lined up to face the White Sox in Chicago next week.
