Schmidt did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks over 4.2 innings against Boston. He struck out three.

Schmidt was solid through his first four innings, working around traffic to hold Boston off the board. However, he'd surrender two runs in the fifth before the Yankees turned to the bullpen. Still, the 27-year-old Schmidt has looked better after a rough start to the year. He's pitched to a 2.56 ERA with 25:8 K:BB across his last six outings (31.2 innings). Overall, Schmidt's 2-6 with a 4.65 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 73:22 K:BB through 15 starts (71.2 innings) this season.

Kremer (8-3) earned the win Sunday against the Cubs after he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out seven.

The right-hander surrendered two homers Sunday, but Christopher Morel's two-run homer in the fourth inning was unearned due to a two-out error. It's the second straight victory for Kremer, who has allowed fewer than three runs and covered at least five frames in eight of his past nine starts. He'll carry a 4.56 ERA into his next outing, which is likely to come next weekend versus Seattle.

Houston optioned Bielak to Triple-A Sugar Land on Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bielak was once again ineffective in his outing Saturday, allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits over 4.2 innings versus the Reds. The right-hander will get a chance to iron things out at the minor-league level, and Houston recalled Shawn Dubin from Sugar Land in a corresponding transaction.

Houck (face) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

The 26-year-old suffered a facial fracture when he was struck by a line drive during his start against the Yankees on Friday, and it's hardly a surprise he'll require some time on the injured list. Houck will be eligible to return July 2, though it's unclear if he's expected to be healthy by that time. Kaleb Ort was recalled in a corresponding move and will open Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader versus New York, per Cerullo.

Kaprielian didn't factor into the decision in an extra-innings loss to the Phillies on Saturday, allowing an earned run on five hits over 5.1 innings. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

The right-hander continued to demonstrate some marked improvement Saturday, coming just two outs short of a third straight quality start. Kaprielian got 60 of his 83 pitches in for strikes while blanking the Phillies through five full frames before seeing Sam Moll allow an RBI infield single to Bryson Stott that produced a run Kaprielian was charged with following his exit. The mostly crisp outing lowered Kaprielian's ERA to 3.66 since his return to the big leagues May 20, and it also featured his first outing without a walk since April 22. Kaprielian next lines up to face either the Guardians or Blue Jays on the road during the latter portion of the coming week.

Bieber (5-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five over 7.1 innings to take the loss Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.

Bieber pitched better than his final line would indicate, as he was tagged for eighth-inning home runs by Jake McCarthy and Corbin Carroll. This was the third time this season that Bieber's allowed multiple homers in a start, and the first time he's given up three long balls. He's had only three starts allowing five-plus runs while pitching to a 3.51 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 69:25 K:BB over 95 innings this season. Bieber's tentatively lined up for a home start versus the Brewers next week, though the Guardians have a vacancy in their rotation with Triston McKenzie (elbow) out, which could allow Bieber to potentially move up a day to face the Athletics.

Eflin (8-3) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five over six innings, taking the loss Saturday against the Padres.

Eflin pitched well enough to earn a quality start, but Blake Snell gave up even less in the pitchers' duel. This was Eflin's seventh quality start of the campaign, and he has yet to give up more than four runs in any outing, providing stability for the Rays' rotation. The veteran right-hander has a 3.26 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 77:13 K:BB over 77.1 innings through 13 starts on the season. He's lined up for a favorable home start versus the Royals next week.

Dunning (6-1) picked up the win Saturday, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk over six innings in a 4-2 victory over the Blue Jays. He struck out three.

The right-hander delivered his third quality start of the year on 89 pitches (61 strikes), as a three-run second inning by the Rangers gave Dunning all the support he needed. Since moving into the rotation at the beginning of May, he sports a 3.25 ERA and 28:14 K:BB through eight starts and 44.1 innings, and while he hasn't been dominant, he has done an excellent job of keeping the ball in the park -- Daulton Varsho's fourth-inning solo shot was only the fourth homer Dunning has served up in 2023. He's next set to take the mound next weekend, on the road against the Yankees.

Chirinos will start Sunday's game against San Diego, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Chirinos will get the ball after throwing 3.2 scoreless innings versus Oakland on Tuesday. The right-hander will get a chance to pick up a win and a few extra innings while not working behind an opener for Sunday's series finale against the Padres.

Gibson (8-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks over six innings against the Cubs. He struck out seven.

Gibson did a good job of mixing up his pitches Saturday and struck out five of the first eight batters he faced. His biggest mistake on the day came in the form of a hanging sinker with two outs in the third, which Nico Hoerner ripped to center field to score Mike Tauchman and Miles Mastrobuoni and put the Orioles down 2-0. The right-hander later surrendered what would be the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth, giving him his first loss since May 14. Gibson had won each of his last four decisions coming in (spanning five starts) and he's now struck out seven in two of his last three starts.
