Paxton is expected to begin paternity leave Tuesday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Paxton's leave, along with Garrett Whitlock being removed from Sunday's game due to elbow tightness, leaves Boston's rotation for the coming week to be determined. Given the maximum three-game absence for paternity leaves, Paxton is expected to rejoin Boston's rotation at some point during the weekend series against Oakland.

Lyles (illness) is expected to make his next start Thursday against the Guardians in Cleveland, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

After coming down with an illness this past Friday, Lyles ended up missing his turn through the rotation, but he looks like he's shown enough improvement over the last few days to avoid a trip to the 15-day injured list. Assuming Lyles checks out fine following a throwing session early this week, he shouldn't face any restrictions when he returns to the mound Thursday for the series opener at Progressive Field. Through 16 starts this season, Lyles is 1-11 with a 6.68 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 64:30 K:BB in 91.2 innings.

Marsh is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Twins in Minnesota, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports.

Marsh will make his second straight turn through the Kansas City rotation despite struggling in his MLB debut against the Dodgers last Friday, when he struck out five over four innings while allowing five earned runs on six hits and four walks. With Jordan Lyles battling an illness, the Royals have temporarily expanded to a six-man rotation, but Marsh could find himself as the odd man out if Lyles is able to pitch Thursday in Cleveland, as anticipated.

Civale tossed a quality start versus the Cubs on Sunday, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out two over six innings. He did not factor into the decision.

Civale struggled with his command at times during his outing, as he did plunk two batters and threw 58 of his 94 pitches for strikes but was able to power through by inducing weak contact. The Cubs did not get an extra-base hit off him and didn't find their way onto the scoreboard until the fifth frame. The two strikeouts were a season-low but he's now allowed two runs or less in six of eight starts this year and is pitching to an impressive 2.96 ERA, 1.18 WHIP to go with a 35:16 K:BB in 45.2 innings. He lines up for a favorable home start versus the Royals before the break.

Cole (8-2) was handed the loss Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings.

Cole allowed just a base hit through three innings, but the Cardinals got to him in the fourth with two doubles and two singles to score two runs. Cole has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last six starts but has only two wins over that span, as he continues to be let down by his offense. The 32-year-old owns a spectacular 2.79 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 118:33 K:BB in 109.2 innings and was just named to his fifth All Star Game since 2018, which is the most among starting pitchers over that span. He'll line up for one final start before the break versus the Cubs over the weekend.

Singer (5-7) earned the win over the Dodgers on Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out four over seven innings.

Singer dominated the Dodgers for his second straight quality start while allowing just one extra-base hit. He registered 14 whiffs on the day, though his strikeout numbers have been down in comparison to past years. Singer hasn't struck out more than five in a game since he had seven June 4. He currently stands at a 7.4 K/9 after averaging a strikeout per inning over his last two seasons. The 26-year-old has found something as of late and now owns a 5.52 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 74:34 K:BB in 89.2 innings. He lines up to face the Guardians on the road over the weekend.

Bradley yielded five runs on nine hits and a walk over 3.1 innings in Sunday's loss to Seattle. He struck out three and did not factor in the decision.

After serving up a solo homer to Eugenio Suarez in the second inning, Bradley coughed up four more runs in the third. It seemed like Bradley was settling into the MLB level with a 3.28 ERA over a five-start stretch but he's since been tagged with 11 earned runs over two outings. His season ERA has jumped to 5.11, though his 79:17 K:BB through 56.1 innings still looks impressive. The 22-year-old's next outing is projected to be a home matchup with Atlanta.

Castillo allowed six runs (five earned) on eight hits over six innings in Sunday's win over Tampa Bay. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.

Castillo eventually settled in to toss three scoreless frames after yielding six runs in the first three innings Sunday. He fired 70 of 95 pitches for strikes, including 19 whiffs, his highest total since June 9. The five earned runs charged to him tied his season high; he posted a 2.32 ERA in seven starts between Sunday's start and May 16 when he was tagged with five earned runs against Boston. For the season, Castillo is sporting a 3.14 ERA and an impressive 114:28 K:BB through 17 starts. His next start is projected to be in Houston.

Toussaint allowed two runs on three hits and four walks over 3.2 innings in Sunday's win over the Athletics. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision.

Toussaint gave up a pair of runs in the third inning and needed 85 pitches to record 11 outs. He's allowed two or fewer runs in each of his four MLB appearances this season, but his ERA sits at 3.95 because he's yet to complete more than four innings in any outing. Toussaint will likely move back into a long-relief role for the time being.

Gausman did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over five innings against the Red Sox. He struck out seven.

Gausman fell one inning shy of picking up a fourth consecutive quality start, allowing just two runs across five innings of work. The veteran right-hander has been exceptional in 2023 outside of a few rough outings, giving up three or fewer runs in 15 of his 18 appearances including six shutout performances. However, Gausman sports a 3.04 ERA through 109.2 innings, a number that's largely inflated by individual starts of eight, seven and six earned runs. Outside of the trio of poor starts, Gausman boasts a 1.48 ERA with a 133:20 K:BB over 97 frames.
