  • Tigers' Eduardo Rodriguez: Earns ninth win in strong outing

Rodriguez (9-6) earned the win Sunday, allowing one run on four hits and one walk over 6.2 innings against the Guardians. He struck out six.

Rodriguez bounced back from allowing six runs in his previous start to dominate the Guardians. The only blemish came in the fourth when Ramon Laureano singled with two outs to drive in the lone Guardians' run. Rodriguez nearly made it through the seventh but was pulled with two outs in the inning following an infield single by Tyler Freeman. Rodriguez now holds a strong 3.03 ERA on the season with a 1.08 WHIP and 115 strikeouts in 113 innings. His next start is currently scheduled for Saturday in a home matchup with the Astros.

  • Tanner Houck SP | BOS

Red Sox's Tanner Houck: Making return Tuesday at Houston

Houck (face) will be reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday against the Astros, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

The right-hander has been sidelined since mid-June after being struck in the face by a comebacker and requiring surgery, but he's been cleared to rejoin Boston's rotation after a three-start rehab assignment. Houck threw 59 pitches over four scoreless innings during his final rehab start, so he'll likely have some workload limitations in his return to the big-league mound.

  • Mariners' Emerson Hancock: Exits start with shoulder strain

Hancock was removed after two innings in his start Sunday against the Astros due to a right shoulder strain. He struck out two and gave up no runs on two hits and no walks prior to departing.

The rookie right-hander was making his third start for Seattle after covering five innings in both of his first two big-league outings and giving up six earned runs on 11 hits and three walks. He was off to a strong start Sunday before the injury prompted the Mariners to lift him from the contest after 31 pitches. Though the Mariners are set to welcome right-hander Bryan Woo (forearm) back from the injured list for their series in Chicago that begins Monday, the team had planned to keep Hancock around as part of a six-man rotation during the upcoming week. Hancock's injury probably nixes those plans.

  • Tanner Bibee SP | CLE

Guardians' Tanner Bibee: Strikes out six in loss

Bibee (9-3) took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk over five innings in a 4-3 loss against the Tigers. He struck out six.

The 24-year-old gave up a three-run homer to Kerry Carpenter in the first inning but kept Detroit off the board for the remainder of his outing. Bibee allowed just three additional baserunners after the long ball and retired the last eight batters he faced; however, Cleveland didn't provide much run support, and Bibee was tagged with the loss. In seven starts since the All-Star break, the rookie standout owns a 4-1 record with a 2.47 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and an impressive 41:9 K:BB across 43.2 innings. He is projected to face Toronto on the road next week.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Twins' Sonny Gray: Takes tough loss

Gray (6-6) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks over 6.2 innings against Pittsburgh. He struck out seven.

The 33-year-old righty was perfect through 5.1 innings, but an infield single by Liover Peguero started a three-run Pittsburgh rally in the sixth. Gray was chased from the game with two outs in the seventh after issuing a pair of walks, one of which came around to score later in the frame, charging the veteran hurler with his fourth earned run of the contest. In seven starts since the All-Star break, Gray owns a 3.74 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 46:11 K:BB across 43.1 innings. He is projected to face a tough Rangers lineup at home next week.

  • Matt Manning SP | PHI

Tigers' Matt Manning: Looks sharp in win

Manning (5-4) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits across six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Guardians. He had one walk and two strikeouts.

Outside of a first inning solo home run by Kole Calhoun, Manning didn't allow any more earned runs as he cruised to the win. The righty has been sharp over his last two outings, allowing just the one earned run across 11.1 innings, though with only three strikeouts. For the season, Manning has just 42 strikeouts in 64.2 innings, which limits his fantasy upside. He'll look to continue his strong recent form in his next start, which is tentatively set for Friday against the Astros.

  • Angels' Griffin Canning: Works in bulk relief again

Canning (7-4) earned the win over Tampa Bay in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 3.1 innings.

Chase Silseth started the contest for the Angels but couldn't get through the fourth inning, giving up three runs in that frame and five overall. Canning entered with two on and two out and got Randy Arozarena to ground out to end the threat, then tossed three more innings, during which he gave up just one run on a Jonathan Aranda solo homer. Canning looked good in the outing, racking up 10 swinging strikes among 52 pitches and punching out five Rays. It was the second straight time that he has thrown in long relief since being activated from the injured list Aug. 13, though it's not clear if that will be the norm for him moving forward or if Canning will eventually move back into the rotation.

  • Dane Dunning SP | SEA

Rangers' Dane Dunning: Allows two homers in loss

Dunning (9-5) took the loss Saturday, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over five innings against the Brewers. He struck out four.

Dunning surrendered a solo home run to Carlos Santana in the first and needed 26 pitches to get out of the inning. The right-hander would again get tagged for a solo shot in the sixth, this time off the bat of Willy Adames, marking just his third time allowing multiple home runs in a start this season. Dunning had logged three quality starts in a row coming in and still holds a 2.81 ERA in August to go along with a 33:5 K:BB. However, he's now lost four of his last five decisions and has allowed seven hits in two straight.

  • Brady Singer SP | CIN

Royals' Brady Singer: Lasts just 3.2 innings in loss

Singer (8-9) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks over 3.2 innings against the Cubs. He struck out three.

Singer didn't have his best stuff Saturday, allowing runs in each of the first four innings before being relieved by Tucker Davidson. The 27-year-old right-hander lasted just 3.2 innings, marking his shortest outing since May 22, while he also failed to record at least four strikeouts for the first time in his last seven starts. Singer had logged three quality starts in a row prior to Saturday's loss, which marked his third time allowing multiple home runs in a game this season.

  • Chris Bassitt SP | BAL

Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Efficient in win

Bassitt (12-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk over six innings in a 4-3 victory over the Reds. He struck out six.

Bassitt threw 56 of his 79 pitches for strikes and kept Cincinnati guessing for the majority of his outing. The 34-year-old retired the first nine batters of the game, including a string of five consecutive strikeouts, before giving up a solo homer to TJ Friedl, followed by a walk and an Elly De La Cruz triple that turned into a Little League home run due to a throwing error. Bassitt went on to complete six frames to earn his 16th quality start and 12th win this season. In seven starts since the All-Star break, the veteran righty owns a 4-1 record with a 3.21 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB across 42 innings. He tentatively lines up to face the Guardians at home next week.
