  • Tarik Skubal SP | LAD

Tigers' Tarik Skubal: Tough loss in strong start

Skubal (3-3) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over six innings in a 4-2 loss against the Yankees. He struck out nine.

The talented southpaw gave up solo home runs to Gleyber Torres in the first inning and Kyle Higashioka in the fifth inning, not allowing any hits in the interim. Skubal's third run was unearned due to a passed ball in the sixth and he was tagged with the unfortunate loss as Detroit's offense failed to provide any run support. After maxing out at 5.1 innings in his first seven starts, the 26-year-old has gone exactly six innings in each of his last three outings, compiling a 3.50 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a dazzling 23:4 K:BB across those 18 innings. Skubal's next start is tentatively scheduled to occur on the road against a fledgling White Sox offense over the weekend.

  • Hunter Gaddis RP | CLE

Guardians' Hunter Gaddis: Earns win after call-up

Gaddis (2-1) was recalled from Triple-A Columbus earlier Tuesday and subsequently allowed a run on four hits and a walk while striking out two over three innings to earn the win over the Twins.

Gaddis was called up to take Daniel Norris' spot on the 26-man roster after most recently having served as the 27th man during last Thursday's doubleheader. He's now at a 4.85 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB through 39 innings over 10 outings (six starts) in the majors this year. Gavin Williams (knee) exited Tuesday's start after one inning, and Gaddis would be among a handful of options to fill a vacancy in the rotation if Williams misses additional time, though Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is expected to be back from the injured list Friday.

  • Ken Waldichuk SP | WAS

Athletics' Ken Waldichuk: Shaky control in no-decision

Waldichuk allowed one run on one hit and five walks while striking out three over four innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Tuesday.

Waldichuk threw just 52 of 91 pitches for strikes, and he also had a wild pitch and a balk. The inefficiency cost him a chance to pick up his first win since July 5. In his 10 outings since, he's walked multiple batters six times while limiting opponents to one run four times. Overall, he's at a 5.92 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 114:64 K:BB over 114 innings through 30 appearances (19 starts). Waldichuk is tentatively lined up for an outing at home versus the Angels this weekend, though it may be a piggyback situation with Mason Miller (elbow) potentially ready to come off the 60-day injured list.

  • Aaron Civale RP | CHC

Rays' Aaron Civale: Solid outing in win

Civale (7-3) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on seven hits over five innings against Miami. He struck out five without issuing a walk.

Civale found himself in a bases-loaded jam in the first inning but managed to escape the frame, limiting the damage to just one run. The 28-year old hurler then gave up a solo homer to Jazz Chisholm in the third and would eventually exit the game down 2-1 after five. Luckily, Tampa Bay's bats came alive in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead and secure Civale his second win since joining the Rays at the trade deadline. In his nine second-half starts, the righty now owns a 2.72 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 39:8 K:BB across 49.2 innings. He is tentatively slated to face the Red Sox at home early next week.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Twins' Pablo Lopez: Toughs out quality start in loss

Lopez (9-7) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings against the Guardians. He struck out five.

Lopez allowed a run in each of the second, third and fourth innings, though he managed to avoid further damage and battled through six innings for his sixth quality start in his last seven outings. Still, the 27-year-old Lopez would take his first loss since July 20. He now sports a 3.72 ERA with a 1.16 WHIP and 196:43 K:BB across 27 starts (164.2 innings) this season. Lopez currently lines up for a rematch with the Guardians on the road in his next start.

  • Brayan Bello RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brayan Bello: Falls to Houston

Bello (10-8) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out two.

After allowing just two runs over his previous two outings, Bello found himself down 2-0 early after surrendering back-to-back homers to Alex Bregman and Yordan Alvarez in the first inning. The 24-year-old Bello rebounded with three scoreless frames before the Astros added an unearned run in the fifth. Overall, the right-hander sports a 3.57 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and 106:36 K:BB across 23 starts (131 innings) this season. Bello will look to get back in the win column in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in Tampa Bay.

  • J.P. France RP | HOU

Astros' J.P. France: Rebounds in Boston

France (10-5) earned the win Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings against Boston. He struck out three.

It was an impressive effort from France after he was tagged for 10 runs in his previous outing against this same Red Sox team. The 28-year-old France has now allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine of his last 10 starts. He lowered his ERA to 3.49 on the season with a 1.29 WHIP and 86:34 K:BB across 19 starts (116 innings). France is currently in line for a key road matchup with the Rangers in his next outing.

  • Gavin Williams SP | CLE

Guardians' Gavin Williams: Pulled with knee soreness

Williams was removed from his start Tuesday against the Twins due to right knee soreness, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Williams was pulled after falling down on an awkward delivery during the first inning. There's been no word on the severity of Williams' injury, but the Guardians will likely provide more information in the near future. The 24-year-old holds a 3.52 ERA and 1.28 WHIP across 64 innings in the majors this season.

  • George Kirby SP | SEA

Mariners' George Kirby: Scratched from start

Kirby was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday against Oakland due to an illness, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Luke Weaver will fill in as Seattle's starting pitcher Tuesday, and it is unclear whether or not Kirby will be able to make his next start -- tentatively scheduled for Monday against Cincinnati. For now, Kirby should be considered day-to-day.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Placed on waivers

The White Sox placed Clevinger on waivers Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Clevinger has been solid through 18 starts for the White Sox this season, posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.23 WHIP across 97.2 innings. However, the White Sox will pass him through waivers -- likely in an effort to save money -- and Clevinger can now be picked up by any team looking to add to their rotation ahead of the postseason.
