  • Drew Pomeranz RP | LAA

Mariners' Drew Pomeranz: Back in Seattle

Pomeranz signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Thursday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Pomeranz spent the spring with Seattle, allowing four runs in 7.2 innings, but he was released by the club Sunday. After testing the open market for a few days, the 36-year-old lefty will now return to the Mariners, though he's likely to only serve as depth for Triple-A Tacoma, given the fact he hasn't appeared in the majors since 2021.

  • Sean Newcomb RP | CHW

Red Sox's Sean Newcomb: Officially added to roster

The Red Sox selected Newcomb's contract from Triple-A Worcester on Thursday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Newcomb was a long shot to make the Opening Day roster, let alone the rotation, when he inked a minor-league deal in January. He will open the season as the fifth starter, however, after permitting just two runs (one earned) with a 13:3 K:BB in 14.1 Grapefruit League frames. Newcomb is slated for his season debut Monday in Baltimore.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | MIN

Red Sox's Liam Hendriks: Placed on IL with inflamed elbow

The Red Sox placed Hendricks on the 15-day injured list Thursday with right elbow inflammation, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Hendriks had a rough spring, allowing seven runs while striking out just four over 6.1 innings. The Red Sox hadn't provided an indication that he was hurt, but the injury designation is troubling considering his past Tommy John surgery. Hendriks will be eligible to return April 8, but there's no word yet on how long he might be out. Aroldis Chapman will open the season as Boston's closer.

  • Cody Poteet RP | BAL

Cubs' Cody Poteet: Cut from 40-man roster

The Cubs designated Poteet for assignment Thursday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Poteet was acquired from the Yankees over the offseason in the Cody Bellinger trade, but he was sent to the minors in early March and is now off the 40-man roster. He could draw interest via trade or waivers from a club in need of a swingman.

  • Cubs' Eli Morgan: Recalled from Triple-A

The Cubs recalled Morgan from Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Morgan was optioned last week, but injuries to others opened up a spot for his return. He'll fill a middle-relief role.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Joins 40-man, active roster

The White Sox selected Clevinger's contract Thursday.

Clevinger attended spring training as a non-roster invitee but quickly solidified his spot in the White Sox's Opening Day bullpen after excelling in camp as he made the transition from starting to relieving. Over his six Cactus League outings, Clevinger didn't allow a run while striking out eight and allowing three hits and one walk over six innings. The veteran righty looks to be a strong candidate to open the season as Chicago's closer, though manager Will Venable has previously suggested that he could use multiple relievers in save situations.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Pirates' Ryan Borucki: Added to roster

The Pirates selected Borucki's contract from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Borucki earned a spot in the Pirates' Opening Day bullpen after turning in a 1.04 ERA with 12 strikeouts over 8.2 Grapefruit League innings. He'll provide middle relief from the left side.

  • Nick Robertson RP | LAD

Blue Jays' Nick Robertson: Scrubbed from 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Robertson for assignment Thursday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Robertson had already missed out of the Opening Day roster after the Blue Jays optioned him to Triple-A Buffalo on March 11, but he'll now be dropped from the 40-man roster entirely with Toronto selecting outfielder Myles Straw's contract in a corresponding move. If he clears waivers, Robertson will remain in the Toronto organization and work in relief at Buffalo.

  • Zach Pop RP | PHI

Blue Jays' Zach Pop: Cast off 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Pop (elbow) for assignment Thursday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Pop experienced elbow inflammation coming out of his final Grapefruit League appearance March 17 and was expected to head to the 15-day injured list, but the Blue Jays will instead move him off their 40-man roster. The transaction clears a 40-man spot for outfielder Alan Roden, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Pop could end up landing on Buffalo's IL if he clears waivers and remains in the Toronto organization.

  • Tommy Nance RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Tommy Nance: Pushed off 40-man roster

The Blue Jays designated Nance for assignment Thursday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Nance was unable to secure a spot in the Blue Jays' Opening Day bullpen after logging a 5.06 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 5.1 innings in Grapefruit League play. He'll end up being squeezed off the 40-man roster as the Blue Jays clear a spot in the bullpen for right-hander Jacob Barnes, who had his contract selected from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.
