    Phillies' Josh Walker: DFA'd by Philly

    The Phillies designated Walker for assignment Tuesday.

    The left-hander has been at Triple-A Lehigh Valley since being acquired from the Blue Jays in May, but Walker will lose his place on the Phillies' 40-man roster without getting a look in the majors. He made 23 relief appearances at Lehigh Valley and had a 4.50 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 22:12 K:BB across 26 innings.

    Astros' Logan VanWey: Recalled from Triple-A

    The Astros recalled VanWey from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    VanWey has a 6.23 ERA and 5:3 K:BB over 8.2 frames during his time with the big club this season. He's absorbing the 26-man active roster spot vacated by Tayler Scott, who was designated for assignment.

    Phillies' Nolan Hoffman: Returns to minors

    The Phillies optioned Hoffman to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

    The right-hander was promoted Monday and will return to Lehigh Valley after giving up three runs over an inning against the Mariners in his MLB debut. Jose Alvarado (suspension) was reinstated to round out Philadelphia's active roster.

    Astros' Tayler Scott: Scrubbed from 40-man roster

    The Astros designated Scott for assignment Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

    Scott was bludgeoned for five runs over 1.2 innings in his lone appearance after the Tigers called him up Monday. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for Logan VanWey.

    Phillies' Jose Alvarado: Back from suspension

    The Phillies reinstated Alvarado (suspension) from the restricted list Tuesday.

    The left-hander has been sidelined since mid-May after being handed an 80-game suspension for a positive PED test, but he'll rejoin the Phillies for the closing stretch of the regular season. Alvarado was part of the closing mix prior to the suspension with seven saves and a 2.70 ERA, but Jhoan Duran is now locked in as Philadelphia's closer. Due to the suspension, Alvarado won't be eligible to pitch in the playoffs this season.

    White Sox's Elvis Peguero: Moves up from Triple-A

    The White Sox recalled Peguero from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

    Peguero has made one appearance for the White Sox since they claimed him off waivers from the Brewers earlier this month, yielding one run over 1.2 innings. He'll work in middle relief.

    White Sox's Owen White: Placed on IL with hip impingement

    The White Sox Sox" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_TEAM" data-league-abbreviation="MLB" data-team-abbreviation="CHW">White Sox placed White on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a right hip impingement.

    White evidently suffered the injury in a relief appearance in Monday's 13-9 win over Atlanta, during which he allowed four runs while recording just one out. The White Sox haven't provided a timeline for his return from the IL.

  • Red Sox's Brennan Bernardino: Summoned from minors

    The Red Sox recalled Bernardino from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

    The Red Sox are swapping left-handed relievers, with Jovani Moran heading back to Worcester and Bernardino rejoining the big club. Bernardino has collected a 3.09 ERA but a less appetizing 36:22 K:BB over 43.2 innings with Boston this season.

    Brewers' DL Hall: Out until mid-September

    Hall (oblique) is expected to be sidelined until mid-September, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

    Hall was placed on the 15-day injured list this past weekend after suffering a mild right oblique strain. He will be shut down until late August before beginning a throwing program, provided his symptoms subside. Hall has been used as a multi-inning reliever, so it will take a bit for him to be built back up once he's throwing again.

    Giants' Ryan Walker: Logs hold in scoreless outing

    Walker picked up a hold in Monday's 4-3 win over San Diego, allowing two hits while striking out one over 1.1 innings.

    Walker entered the game with two outs in the seventh, surrendering a single before escaping the inning. The right-hander gave up another single to the first batter he faced in the eighth but followed it with a strikeout before inducing an inning-ending double play. He threw 13 of his 17 pitches for strikes en route to his first hold since June 27. Over six appearances in August, Walker has recorded a 1.50 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 4:1 K:BB across six innings.
