Tigers' Beau Brieske: Goes on 60-day injured list

The Tigers placed Brieske (groin) on the 60-day injured list Monday.

Brieske suffered a left adductor strain during a workout last week and will now be shelved until at least late May. Putting Brieske on the 60-day IL frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Connor Seabold.

Tigers' Connor Seabold: Finds work with Detroit

Detroit signed Seabold to a one-year, split major-league contract Monday.

After being cut by Toronto over the weekend, Seabold quickly found an opportunity in a new organization. The 30-year-old righty may end up opening the season at Triple-A Toledo, but he'll claim a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster and will earn a prorated $800,000 at the big-league level. Detroit cleared room on the 40-man roster for Seabold by placing Beau Brieske (adductor) on the 60-day injured list.

  • Paxton Schultz RP | WAS

Nationals' Paxton Schultz: Headed for IL

Schultz has been contending with right elbow discomfort of late and is expected to be placed on the injured list prior to Thursday's season opener versus the Cubs, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.

The elbow injury explains why Schultz hadn't made any Grapefruit League appearances since Feb. 28. Schultz had been enjoying a strong spring prior to missing time with the injury, but with a trip to the shelf on tap to begin the season, he'll likely be eased back in as a low-leverage reliever once he's deemed ready to make his 2026 debut. The Nationals haven't provided a timeline for when Schultz might be ready to embark on a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Jacob Latz RP | TEX

Rangers' Jacob Latz: Opening season in bullpen

President of baseball operations Chris Young said Monday that Latz will be part of the bullpen on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.

Latz will likely be ticketed for a multi-inning relief role, with most of his opportunities expected to come in lower-leverage spots. The assignment to the bullpen is a disappointing outcome for Latz, who looked to have a leg up on Kumar Rocker for the final spot in the season-opening rotation heading into spring training based on his strong close to the 2025 campaign. After an Aug. 20 call-up from Triple-A Round Rock, Latz turned in a 2.10 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB in 30 innings over his final eight outings with the Rangers, but he couldn't carry over that success to the spring. He yielded 16 runs (14 earned) on 18 hits and eight walks over his 15.1 innings during the Cactus League.

  • Joe Mantiply RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Joe Mantiply: Misses out on Opening Day roster

The Blue Jays reassigned Mantiply to minor-league camp Monday.

Mantiply is expected to open the season at Triple-A Buffalo after he was one of six non-roster invitees reassigned Monday in the Blue Jays' latest round of cuts. The 35-year-old lefty made 10 relief appearances in the majors with the Diamondbacks last season, logging a 15.83 ERA, 3.00 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

  • Jesse Hahn RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jesse Hahn: Misses out on Opening Day roster

The Blue Jays reassigned Hahn to minor-league camp Monday.

Hahn is expected to open the season at Triple-A Buffalo after he was one of six non-roster invitees reassigned Monday in the Blue Jays' latest round of cuts. The 36-year-old righty had two brief stints in the big leagues with the Mariners in 2025, appearing in three games while giving up three earned runs on six hits and five walks over five innings.

  • Josh Fleming RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Josh Fleming: Dismissed from big-league camp

The Blue Jays reassigned Fleming to minor-league camp Monday.

Fleming was one of six non-roster invitees reassigned Monday in the Blue Jays' latest round of cuts. The 29-year-old southpaw is expected to report to Triple-A Buffalo, where he'll likely serve as a swingman. Fleming previously saw big-league action between stops with the Rays and Pirates from 2020 through 2024 but spent all of 2025 at the Triple-A level with the Mariners' affiliate, logging a 5.02 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 84.1 innings.

  • Jorge Alcala RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jorge Alcala: Unable to win roster spot

The Blue Jays reassigned Alcala to minor-league camp Monday.

The veteran reliever is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Buffalo after he gave up seven earned runs on 12 hits and three walks across 7.1 innings to take himself out of the mix for a spot in the Blue Jays' Opening Day bullpen. Alcala has previously seen big-league action in each of the last seven seasons across stops with the Twins, Red Sox and Cardinals, logging a 4.29 ERA over 200 career appearances.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Padres' Jose Leclerc: Inks minors deal with Padres

The Padres signed Leclerc (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

Leclerc is still working his way back from right shoulder surgery, but he has resumed throwing off the mound and is aiming to make his season debut by July. The 32-year-old has a career 13.1 percent walk rate but also a 30.8 percent strikeout rate over parts of nine big-league seasons. There's no guarantee Leclerc's stuff bounces all the way back after his shoulder operation, but if it does he could eventually see high-leverage relief work in San Diego.

  • Matt Strahm RP | KC

Royals' Matt Strahm: Delivers clean appearance

Strahm (leg) tossed a perfect inning of relief Friday in the Royals' 5-2 loss to the Giants in Cactus League play.

Strahm had been lifted from his previous spring appearance Wednesday after being struck in the left leg by a line drive, but he suffered nothing more than a contusion and felt well enough to get back on the mound two days later. The 34-year-old lefty is ready to go for Opening Day as he kicks off his second stint in the Royals organization after being acquired from the Phillies over the winter. Strahm is expected to be a key part of the bridge to closer Carlos Estevez.
