  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Athletics' Trevor May: Grabs first save

May picked up the save in Wednesday's 9-5 victory over Pittsburgh, allowing a hit over two-thirds of a scoreless inning.

May worked out of a bases-loaded jam to stave off a Pirates comeback while notching his first save of the season. After a rough start to the year, the 33-year-old May has thrown five consecutive scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 5.93 with a 1.76 WHIP and 9:10 K:BB through 13.2 innings this season. May is probably the best bet to earn saves in Oakland, though opportunities will be few and far between on a last-place A's team.

  • Hogan Harris RP | ATH

Athletics' Hogan Harris: Notches first win

Harris (1-0) earned the win Wednesday, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks over five innings against the Pirates. He struck out two.

It wasn't a dominant outing from Harris, but he did enough to earn his first career win after the A's jumped out to a 7-0 lead. After a rough debut in April, Harris has pitched to a 3.00 ERA in three outings (15 innings) since he was recalled from Triple-A. Overall, he sports a 6.46 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 12:9 K:BB over 15.1 innings. While the numbers don't jump out, Harris has certainly done enough to maintain a spot in a struggling Oakland rotation. He tentatively lines up for a tough home matchup against the Rays in his next start.

  • Luis Patino RP | SD

Rays' Luis Patino: Moves up from Triple-A

The Rays recalled Patino from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Patino was moved to the bullpen a month ago with Durham and has struggled overall in the role with a 10.24 ERA, though much of that damage came in a May 12 appearance in which he surrendered seven earned runs. He had allowed just one run over his last five outings to earn the call back to the big leagues as a replacement in the bullpen for Calvin Faucher (elbow), who was moved to the 15-day injured list.

  • Calvin Faucher RP | MIA

Rays' Calvin Faucher: Lands on IL with elbow injury

Faucher was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation, Kristie Ackert of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Faucher last pitched Monday, throwing a scoreless inning of relief in a 4-1 win over Boston. He'll be eligible to return later this month, though the Rays aren't yet providing a timeline for Faucher to be activated just yet.

  • Josh Staumont RP | CIN

Royals' Josh Staumont: Placed on IL with neck strain

Kansas City placed Staumont on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, retroactive to June 6, with a neck strain.

Staumont will be out of action for two-plus weeks while he recovers from the injury. The right-hander has been replaced on the roster by Austin Cox, who was recalled from Triple-A Omaha. Staumont has struggled so far in 2023, logging a 5.40 ERA and 1.45 WHIP over 20 innings with Kansas City.

  • Austin Cox RP | ATL

Royals' Austin Cox: Brought up from Triple-A

Kansas City recalled Cox from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Cox will take the active roster spot of Josh Staumont, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with a neck strain. The 26-year-old Cox has been working as a starter at Triple-A, but unless the Royals elect to move Mike Mayers to the bullpen, Cox looks as though he'll be limited to a mop-up role in relief for the time being.

  • Joe Barlow RP | TEX

Rangers' Joe Barlow: Initiates rehab assignment

Barlow (illness) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday and struck out one over a perfect inning of relief in an appearance against Salt Lake.

Barlow is first able return from the 15-day injured list early next week and looks as though he could be in line for activation near his eligibility date if he can turn in another strong rehab appearance or two. The right-hander was shelved in late May after he was diagnosed with kidney stones, but he's apparently made a swift recovery.

  • Cory Abbott RP | SEA

Nationals' Cory Abbott: Returns from Triple-A

Washington recalled Abbott from Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday.

Abbott has made two relief appearances for the Nationals this season, yielding one run over four innings. Though he's been a full-time member of the rotation when he's been with Rochester, Abbott looks set to serve as a multi-inning option once again during his upcoming stint in the big leagues.

  • Austin Voth RP | MIN

Orioles' Austin Voth: Takes extra-inning loss

Voth (1-2) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk with one strikeout in two-thirds of an inning, taking the extra-inning loss Tuesday versus the Brewers.

Voth was called on for another short assignment Tuesday, his second since serving as a primary pitcher May 31 versus the Guardians. This one didn't go particularly well, and he has now given up six runs (four earned) over nine innings across his last five appearances. The Orioles haven't revealed their rotation for this weekend's series versus the Royals -- it's still possible Voth could make a start or serve as a bulk reliever in one of those three games. There's also a chance Baltimore recalls Cole Irvin, who has pitched to a 3.21 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB over 42 innings at Triple-A Norfolk. Irvin hasn't pitched for the Tides since May 31, and the affiliate's pitching plans beyond Wednesday are yet to be determined. Voth would likely return to the bullpen full-time if Irvin were promoted.

  • Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Awful in first loss

De Los Santos (2-1) allowed four runs on two hits and two walks without recording an out to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox.

De Los Santos also took a blown save for failing to protect a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning. It was easily his worst outing of the season -- he had a 6.2-inning scoreless streak from May 19 to June 3 and hadn't given up multiple runs in any appearance since April 9. The right-handed reliever still has a 3.52 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP, 18:10 K:BB and four holds over 23 innings this season. De Los Santos is likely to remain in a middle-reliever role.
