  • Jordan Romano RP | COL

Blue Jays' Jordan Romano: Converts 25th save

Romano struck out the side in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox.

Romano's hit a bit of a rough patch lately, allowing a run in three of his last five outings. He's picked up three saves and taken two losses in that span, but Tuesday's appearance was a sharp one for the veteran closer. He's up to 25 saves in 28 chances while pitching to a 3.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB over 35.2 innings on the year.

  • Braves' Raisel Iglesias: Handed extra-inning loss

Iglesias (3-3) allowed an unearned run on a hit and two walks over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Guardians.

Both walks he issued were intentional. Iglesias was able to get a double play after the first free pass, but David Fry broke through with a two-out walk-off single. After allowing seven runs over 13 innings in June, Iglesias had opened July with two scoreless outings, but he was pitching for the third day in a row Tuesday. He's at a 3.91 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 32:8 K:BB through 25.1 innings this season while adding 15 saves in 17 chances.

  • Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Earns win in MLB debut

Palencia (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Brewers. He allowed one hit and had no walks or strikeouts.

After Adbert Alzolay blew a save in the ninth inning, the Cubs turned to Palencia for the 10th and 11th frames. The 23-year-old was making his MLB debut but managed to navigate the high-leverage assignment on only 12 pitches and earn his first win in the process. Palencia had a 6.83 ERA across 29 innings this season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa, though he's got a big fastball and could stick with the Cubs if he continues to pitch well out of the bullpen.

  • Guardians' Enyel De Los Santos: Collects fourth win

De Los Santos (4-1) pitched a perfect inning to earn the extra-inning win over Atlanta on Tuesday.

De Los Santos worked the 10th inning and got some help on an outfield assist from Myles Straw to nab the potential go-ahead runner at the plate on a double play. David Fry then walked it off in the bottom of the 10th. De Los Santos has allowed just two hits while striking out five over his seven-inning scoreless streak. For the season, he's at a 2.57 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB while adding six holds and a blown save over 35 innings. He's not firmly in the high-leverage mix, but he's pitched well enough to be trusted to protect leads.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Blows another save

Clase allowed a run on one hit and struck out one in one inning, taking a blown save in Tuesday's extra-inning win over Atlanta.

Clase was dominant for much of the first three months of the campaign, but he's now given up seven runs (six earned) over 2.1 innings across his last three appearances. Ozzie Albies tagged him for a solo home run in the ninth inning Tuesday, though Cleveland ultimately won in the 10th. Clase now has a 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 37:11 K:BB through 40.2 innings, and he's 24-for-31 in save chances this season. He had just nine blown saves combined over the previous two years, but he's taken a step back in 2023.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Padres' Josh Hader: Picks up 19th save

Hader walked two, struck out one and didn't allow a run over two-thirds of an inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Angels.

The All-Star closer appeared poised for a night off with the Padres entering the ninth inning with an 8-1 lead, but Jose Castillo surrendered two runs and loaded the bases to present a save opportunity. Hader threw just 12 of 23 pitches for a strike and walked in a pair of inherited runners, but he ultimately came through for his 19th save in 22 chances. The left-hander pitched in a non-save situation Monday after he saw limited work late in June, so manager Bob Melvin may attempt to stay away from his closer in Wednesday's series finale. Nick Martinez is the likeliest bet to step in for a save chance should Hader be unavailable.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Athletics' Trevor May: Secures sixth save

May picked up the save in Tuesday's 1-0 victory over Detroit. He allowed no hits and one walk while striking out one over a scoreless inning.

Oakland broke a scoreless tie in the top of the 10th inning, and May worked around the designated runner and a two-out walk in the bottom of the frame for his sixth save of the year. The right-hander gave up eight earned runs over his first eight outings of the season before he landed on the injured list in mid-April for anxiety issues, but since rejoining the active roster May 23, he has a 2.70 ERA with six saves in 17 appearances.

  • Garrett Hill RP | DET

Tigers' Garrett Hill: Optioned to Toledo

The Tigers optioned Hill to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Hill will return to the minors to make room for Eduardo Rodriguez (finger), who will return from the injured list and start Wednesday. Hill made one appearance after getting called up June 28, allowing four earned runs across two innings, and he holds a 9.88 ERA and 2.20 WHIP through 13.2 frames.

  • Adbert Alzolay RP | NYM

Cubs' Adbert Alzolay: Blows save in Milwaukee

Alzolay was charged with a blown save Tuesday against the Brewers after he gave up two runs on four hits and no walks over 1.1 innings. He struck out three.

The right-hander allowed an inherited runner to score before closing out the eighth inning, and he returned for the ninth but was unable to maintain a 6-4 advantage for his first blown save of the year. Alzolay went from late May to late June without giving up a run in 10 appearances, but he's now surrendered four runs (three earned) in his past two outings. The 28-year-old leads Chicago with four saves and should continue splitting closing duties with Mark Leiter.

  • Robert Suarez RP | ATL

Padres' Robert Suarez: Makes second rehab appearance

Suarez (elbow) appeared in his second rehab game with the Arizona Complex League Padres on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and a walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Suarez logged his first rehab outing of the season for the ACL club Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out two batters over one inning. His second appearance wasn't as smooth, though it's a positive sign that he's pitched twice in four days after missing the first three-plus months of the season due right elbow inflammation. Per MLB.com, Suarez is next expected to move his rehab stint to Triple-A El Paso on July 7. The Padres are hopeful that the righty reliever can return to the big-league bullpen sometime after the All-Star break.
