Sewald allowed a hit and struck out two over one scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 4-2 win over the Orioles.

Sewald had a couple of rough outings in August, but he's mostly been steady since he was acquired from the Mariners. The right-hander threw 16 pitches (11 strikes) in Friday's outing, his first action since a blown save last Saturday. For the season, he's 29-for-34 in save chances while posting a 3.19 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 74:21 K:BB through 53.2 innings.

Bednar tossed one inning Friday, allowing an unearned run on his way to a save in a 4-2 extra-inning win over the Cardinals.

Bednar was called upon to protect a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the 10th and retired all three batters he faced, though the phantom runner on second base came around to score after a couple sacrifice flies. The save was the right-hander's 30th of the season and he has now converted seven straight save chances since suffering a blown save Aug. 8 versus Atlanta. Since that miscue, Bednar has posted a 2.16 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with six punchouts in eight appearances out of Pittsburgh's bullpen.

Williams (8-3) earned the win Friday after he pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one run while striking out a batter in a 7-5 victory over the Phillies.

Williams was called upon to protect a 3-2 lead with two runners on base in the top of the eighth inning, but he surrendered a three-run homer to Trea Turner, suffering his fourth blown save of the season. The offense picked him up in the bottom of the frame though, scoring four runs and regaining a 7-5 lead. Williams then came out for the top of the ninth, setting down the Phillies in order. The right-hander's season-long numbers remain at a sparkling 1.60 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 31 saves over 50.2 innings in 53 appearances.

Clase tossed a perfect ninth inning and earned a save over the Rays on Friday.

Clase forced three quick outs on 10 pitches to finish off the 3-2 victory. He's allowed just one run over his last 8.2 frames and has converted six straight save chances. Clase now has an MLB-leading 37 saves with a 2.90 ERA across 62 innings.

The Padres reinstated Hill (finger) from the 15-day injured list Friday.

A sprained left ring finger sent Hill to the injured list in early August. He looked shaky during his first rehab appearance, coughing up five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning at Single-A, but he managed to regroup and throw a scoreless frame in Triple-A on Wednesday. He'll return to the Padres' bullpen as a depth piece for the final month of the season.

The Diamondbacks recalled Frias from Triple-A Reno on Friday.

As rosters expand to 28 players, Frias will provide the Diamondbacks with an additional bullpen arm. However, the 25-year-old righty hasn't had much success in the majors with a 5.71 ERA and 1.96 WHIP through 17.1 innings and will likely be limited to low-leverage situations.

Kay was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Friday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Kay came up from the minors Tuesday as Jose Cuas went on the bereavement list, and he'll head back to Iowa following Cuas' return. Kay holds a 6.35 ERA and 1.76 WHIP through 11.1 frames in the majors and hasn't appeared in a game since Aug. 1.

The Cubs reinstated Cuas from the bereavement list ahead of his start Friday in the second game of a doubleheader against Cincinnati, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

After three games away from the team, Cuas will return to the Cubs' roster. The 29-year-old righty holds a 3.69 ERA through 53.2 innings this season and will likely only remain on the mound for an inning or two as Chicago rolls with a bullpen game. Anthony Kay was optioned to Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.

Winn was recalled Friday from Triple-A Sacramento, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Winn returns to the Giants as an extra bullpen arm with rosters expanding from 26 to 28. The 25-year-old right-hander has posted a 4.09 ERA and 14:5 K:BB through his first 22 major-league innings this season.

Santillan cleared waivers Friday and was sent outright to Triple-A Louisville, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Santillan gave up one run over 3.1 innings in three appearances with the Reds, but a 9.26 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in Triple-A was enough to discourage interest from other teams. He will almost certainly remain in Louisville to finish the season.
