  • Nate Pearson RP | CHC

Cubs' Nate Pearson: Rejoins big club

The Cubs recalled Pearson from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Mike McGraw of the Chicago Daily Herald reports.

The right-hander has made just one appearance with the Cubs since late April, but he's back in the big leagues Tuesday with Michael Soroka (shoulder) heading to the injured list. Pearson has struggled in his nine big-league outings this year with a 12.66 ERA, 2.53 WHIP and 6:9 K:BB over 10.2 innings.

  • Twins' Darren McCaughan: DFA'd by Twins

Minnesota designated McCaughan for assignment Tuesday.

The right-hander joined the big club Monday but will lose his place on the 26-man and 40-man rosters just a day later. McCaughan made three appearances for the Twins early in the season and allowed one earned run with a 6:1 K:BB over 5.1 innings, but he's struggled to a 5.35 ERA in 17 outings (10 starts) with Triple-A St. Paul.

  • Brooks Kriske RP | MIN

Twins' Brooks Kriske: Claimed by Minnesota

The Twins claimed Kriske off waivers Tuesday.

The right-hander was designated for assignment by the Cubs over the weekend, and the Twins claimed him in order to round out their bullpen coming out of the trade deadline. Kriske delivered six scoreless frames with a 4:5 K:BB with Chicago and has a 3.13 ERA at the Triple-A level this season.

  • Anthony Molina RP | COL

Rockies' Anthony Molina: Recalled ahead of start

The Rockies recalled Molina from Triple-A Albuquerque on Tuesday.

Molina will start Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays in what will be his first start and sixth appearance at the big-league level in 2025. The right-hander has allowed seven runs with a 6:0 K:BB over 8.2 innings in his five relief outings. Molina could earn multiple turns in Colorado's rotation until Antonio Senzatela (finger) or German Marquez (biceps) returns.

  • Justin Slaten RP | BOS

Red Sox's Justin Slaten: Throws off mound

Slaten (shoulder) threw off a mound at Fenway Park on Tuesday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Slaten looked to be throwing at full effort in his first time tossing from the bump since he landed on the injured list in early June due to right shoulder inflammation. The right-hander will surely require some rehab appearances before being activated from the 60-day injured list, and it's not clear when he might be ready for game action in the minors.

  • Steven Okert RP | HOU

Astros' Steven Okert: Serving as opener Tuesday

Okert will serve as the Astros' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game versus the Marlins, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Okert will cover the first inning or two before handing things off to AJ Blubaugh, who is expected to be the bulk reliever. The left-handed Okert has had a dynamite season out of the Astros' bullpen, registering a 2.90 ERA and 59:11 K:BB over 49.2 frames.

  • Red Sox's Isaiah Campbell: Recalled from Triple-A

The Red Sox recalled Campbell from Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday.

Campbell has allowed two runs over two innings during his brief time in the majors this season, and he has collected a 4.17 ERA and 41:15 K:BB across 45.1 frames with Worcester. The righty will likely be used as a low-leverage reliever.

  • Jorge Alcala RP | STL

Red Sox's Jorge Alcala: Booted from 40-man roster

The Red Sox designated Alcala for assignment Tuesday.

Alcala has fanned 46 batters over 40.2 innings this season between the Twins and Red Sox, but he's also walked 23 while posting a 6.64 ERA. Not having minor-league options remaining will hurt him, but it would not be a surprise if another team takes a shot on the hard-throwing reliever.

  • Seth Johnson RP | PHI

Phillies' Seth Johnson: Sent back to minors

The Phillies optioned Johnson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday.

Johnson fanned five over two scoreless frames Monday against the Orioles and boasts a 17:4 K:BB over 12.2 innings with the big club this season, but having minor-league options worked against him here. Joe Ross (back) has been activated from the injured list to absorb Johnson's roster spot.

  • Joe Ross RP | PHI

Phillies' Joe Ross: Activated from injured list

The Phillies activated Ross (back) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Ross has been sidelined since late July with back spasms but is ready to go following a brief rehab assignment. He'll fill a multi-inning relief role.
