The Blue Jays designated Mayza for assignment Saturday.

Mayza allowed five runs to score without recording an out during Friday's loss to the Yankees, inflating his ERA to 8.03 through 24.2 innings -- a far cry from his 1.52 ERA last season. The 32-year-old southpaw's drastic regression has now cost him his spot on the Jays' 40-man roster, though he could still receive some attention on the waiver wire from bullpen-needy teams hoping to unlock Mayza's previous form. Jose Cuas was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo to fill the open spot in Toronto's bullpen.

The Blue Jays recalled Cuas from Triple-A Buffalo on Saturday.

The Jays claimed Cuas off waivers from the Cubs on Sunday, and he'll now join the big-league club to give the team a fresh arm in its bullpen. The 30-year-old owns a 7.43 ERA and 1.65 WHIP through 13.1 innings in the majors this season, and he allowed two runs in just two-thirds of an inning during his most recent Triple-A outing, so it's unlikely he receives much more than mop-up duty while with Toronto. Tim Mayza was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Thompson (3-3) allowed three runs on three hits and one walk while striking out one over 1.1 innings, picking up the loss to Oakland on Friday.

Thompson got the final out of the seventh inning of a tie game and was the pitcher of record when the Diamondbacks took the lead. Usually, that means game over -- Thompson holds the lead then Paul Sewald closes it -- but that was not the case Friday. Thompson, who had allowed just four runs over 32 innings and leads Arizona with 11 holds, was roughed up in the eighth. He told Steve Gilbert of MLB.com that he couldn't find the right adjustment to avoid throwing very hittable strikes.

Miller (4-6) allowed three runs on three hits across an inning of work and took the loss Friday against the Angels. He struck out two.

Miller allowed two hits but had a chance to escape the eighth inning with no damage before he allowed a two-out, three-run home run to Logan O'Hoppe. The veteran righty had been pitching well this month with a 2.25 ERA across seven appearances. However, Miller now has a subpar 4.62 ERA overall, which he'll work on lowering in the coming weeks.

Lopez worked around a hit to toss a scoreless inning of relief in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Brewers.

Lopez had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa before the game, and he proceeded to make his team debut right away. The righty was dumped by the Mets earlier this year, and he struggled to a 5.95 ERA last season with three different teams, but he was an effective reliever as recently as 2022. If Lopez can get back to that form with the Cubs, he could establish a regular role in their bullpen.

Doval (3-1) allowed a run on one hit and struck out one over over inning, blowing a save but earning the win Friday over the Dodgers.

Doval allowed a triple to Andy Pages, who came home on a Jason Heyward sacrifice fly that tied the game at 3-3 in the ninth inning. The Giants then got a walk-off home run from Brett Wisely to make Doval the pitcher of record despite his poor outing. He's given up nine runs over nine innings in June, though a pair of four-run meltdowns account for much of that damage. He hasn't been dominant this season with a 4.55 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 39:21 K:BB while converting 14 of 17 save chances over 31.2 innings.

Miller will serve as the Giants' opening pitcher in Saturday's game against the Dodgers, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Miller will serve as an opener for the eighth time this season, and he's fared well in the role thus far, giving up just one earned run in 7.2 innings across his first seven starts. He'll likely work no more than inning or two before giving way to the bullpen, with right-hander Spencer Howard being the most likely candidate to handle the bulk of the innings.

Estevez threw a perfect ninth inning to earn a save over Detroit on Friday.

Estevez needed only nine pitches to sit down the heart of the Tigers' lineup in order. He's up to 16 saves on the year and has converted 10 straight chances. Since blowing his last save May 10, Estevez has given up just one earned run over 14.1 innings. He's lowered his season ERA to 3.12 with an impressive 27:3 K:BB through 26 appearances.

Kopech earned the save in Friday's 5-3 win over the Rockies, pitching a scoreless inning and working around a walk.

The 28-year-old entered the ninth with a two-run lead and looked to immediately be in danger, as he opened with six-pitch walk to Ryan McMahon. However, Kopech induced two consecutive groudouts, including one of the double-play variety, to escape with just his second save in June. The Chicago right-hander lowered his season ERA to 4.46 over 34.1 innings, as he appears to have seized control of the closer's role over John Brebbia for the time being.

Pallante (4-3) allowed four hits and three walks over 5.1 shutout frames Friday, striking out five and earning a win over Cincinnati.

Pallante worked around a few jams to keep the Reds off the board. The Cardinals would go on to win 1-0, so his scoreless performance was much-needed. Since moving into the starting rotation, Pallante has produced a 3.86 ERA with a 25:13 K:BB in six starts. His season ERA dropped to 4.50 through 38 innings. Pallante's next start is currently lined up to be in Pittsburgh.
