  • Victor Vodnik RP | COL

Rockies' Victor Vodnik: Locks down fifth save

Vodnik picked up the save Friday against Arizona, striking out two in a clean ninth inning.

Vodnik secured save No. 5 on the campaign and his third of the month of August. It's notable that Juan Mejia tossed a scoreless eighth inning for a hold, which suggests Vodnik is at least slightly ahead of Mejia in the bullpen pecking order while Seth Halvorsen (elbow) is on the injured list. With Vodnik holding a concerning 1.50 WHIP over 37.1 innings this season, however, it wouldn't be surprising to see the closer situation remain somewhat of a committee going forward.

  • Braves' Hurston Waldrep: Fans seven in third win

Waldrep (3-0) earned the win over the Guardians on Friday, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven over six scoreless innings.

The 23-year-old generated 14 swinging strikes on 95 pitches and set a career high with seven strikeouts, blanking Cleveland for his first career scoreless outing. Since being recalled, the young starter has been impressive, winning each of his first three outings while yielding only two total runs across 17.2 innings. His ability to command the zone and miss bats has quickly made him a valuable boost to Atlanta's injury-prone rotation, and he'll take a 1.02 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 17:5 K:BB into his next scheduled start against the White Sox.

  • Trevor Megill RP | MIL

Brewers' Trevor Megill: Secures 29th save

Megill earned the save in Friday's 10-8 win over the Reds, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Megill was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the ninth and did so on just 11 pitches. In 13 appearances across July and August, the 31-year-old has gone 11-for-11 in save chances while allowing only one earned run over 12.1 innings. For the season, he owns a 2.14 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 51:15 K:BB across 42 frames while converting 29 of 32 opportunities.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

    Phillies' Jhoan Duran: X-rays negative

X-rays on Duran's right ankle came back negative after he left Friday's game against Washington on a cart, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports.

Duran was hit on the ankle by a comebacker in the ninth inning and had to leave the game on a cart. The Phillies will evaluate him further Saturday, but for the moment, it seems like the 27-year-old managed to escape the incident without suffering any structural damage. If he ends up needing to miss any time, Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering would be the primary candidates to close games for the Phillies going forward.

  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Leaves game on cart

Duran was removed from Friday's game against the Nationals after getting hit on his right ankle by a line drive, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Duran wasn't able to put much weight on his right leg after getting hit by a 94-mph liner in the ninth inning, and the Phillies had to bring in a cart to take him off the field. More details on the severity of his injury will come after the Phillies get a closer look at him.

  • Dodgers' Julian Fernandez: DFA'd by Dodgers

The Dodgers designated Fernandez for assignment Friday.

The Dodgers claimed Buddy Kennedy off waivers from Toronto on Friday to compensate for Max Muncy (oblique) moving to the injured list, so Fernandez will end up as the roster casualty necessary to clear space on the 40-man roster. The 29-year-old has surrendered just one run and struck out 17 batters in 12.2 innings since being sent down to Triple-A in early July, which may help his chances of being claimed by another team off waivers.

  • Ryan Walker RP | SF

Giants' Ryan Walker: Placed on paternity list

The Giants placed Walker on the paternity list Friday, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Walker will be allowed to miss up to three games while spending time with his expanding family, putting him in line to return by the time the Giants begin their next series in San Diego on Monday. Keaton Winn was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Brock Stewart RP | LAD

Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Has shoulder injection

Stewart said Friday he received cortisone and PRP injections in his right shoulder last week, and his shoulder has responded well, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Stewart got the injections to address inflammation, and while he'll still be shut down from throwing for another week, he's optimistic about a September return. Stewart was placed on the shelf Tuesday, just four appearances into his Dodgers career after being traded from Minnesota near the trade deadline.

  • Padres' Wandy Peralta: Opening Friday

Peralta will open Friday's game against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Randy Vasquez is expected to handle the bulk of innings Friday, but it will be Peralta on the mound to face the formidable trio of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Will Smith in the first inning of the series opener. The 34-year-old Peralta carries a 3.13 ERA and 1.34 WHIP through 54.2 innings on the year and will likely be limited to just one inning of work during his second career MLB start.

  • Tanner Scott RP | LAD

Dodgers' Tanner Scott: Faces hitters Friday

Scott (elbow) threw a 22-pitch simulated inning Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

Scott has been throwing off a mound since Aug. 6, though Friday marks the first time he's done so against live hitters. The Dodgers may still look to get him a few tune-up outings in the minors before activating him from the injured list, but a late-August return is still on the table.
