To make room for catcher Nick Hundley, the Rockies announced pitcher Chris Martin has been designated for assignment on Monday. Martin produced a 6.89 ERA in 16 games during the 2014 season.

The Mariners agreed to trade pitcher Brandon Maurer to the Padres in exchange for outfielder Seth Smith.

In 2014, the right-handed Maurer went 1-4 with a 4.65 ERA and fills the Padres’ need for bullpen help. The left-handed-hitting Smith hit .266 with 12 homeruns and 48 RBI in 136 games.

The Athletics announced Thursday they acquired pitcher Eury De La Rosa from the Diamondbacks for cash. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, pitcher Fernando Rodriguez was designated for assignment.

De La Rosa was 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA in 25 relief outings for Arizona in 2014, while Rodriguez was 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA in seven relief outings for Oakland.

The Diamondbacks have reached an agreement with David Hernandez on a contract, according to the azcentral.com.

Hernandez was eligible for arbitration, but settled on a $2 million salary figure for next season. The 29-year-old posted a missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Diamondbacks general manager Dave Stewart indicated Friday that pitchers Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster are in line to pitch in the rotation in 2015, MLB.com reports. The two pitchers were acquired from the Red Sox in a trade that was announced Friday.

An earlier report stated that Stewart indicated that Josh Collmenter would start the regular-season opener, but he just happened to be the first name listed by the general manager when discussing the team's rotation plans. The team could still choose to bring in more starting pitching help, especially after clearing significant salary by trading away two veterans this week. Currently, Collmenter is lone holdover in the Diamondbacks rotation after the team acquired De La Rosa, Webster and Jeremy Hellickson to fill three spots.

The Red Sox and Diamondbacks completed a trade Friday, with pitcher Wade Miley heading to Boston in exchange for pitchers Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa as well as infielder Raymel Flores .

The deal was one of two trades announced by the Diamondbacks between the two teams Friday. The Diamondbacks announced that pitcher Eury De La Rosa was designated for assignment in a related move.

Miley, 28, went 8-12 with a 4.34 ERA and 183:75 K:BB ratio in 201 1/3 innings in 2014. He's set to reach free agency after the 2017 season but will slide into Boston's new-look rotation for 2015.

Webster went 5-3 with a 5.03 ERA and 36:28 K:BB ratio in 59 innings over 11 starts with the Red Sox in 2014 while delivering a 3.10 ERA and 100:44 K:BB ratio in 122 innings with Triple-A Pawtucket. Webster was the No. 88 prospect in baseball before the 2014 season, according to Baseball America, and landed in the top 50 of the same list prior to the 2013 season.

De La Rosa made 18 starts and one relief appearance with the Red Sox in 2014, going 4-8 with a 4.43 ERA and 74:35 K:BB ratio in 101 2/3 innings. He also made 12 starts in Triple-A last season, posting a 3.45 ERA and 57:25 K:BB ratio in 60 innings.

Flores turned 20 years old in September and has spent three seasons in the Red Sox minor-league system. He hit .282/.344/.354 with one home run, 12 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 206 at-bats with low Class A Lowell in 2014.

The Red Sox Sox are set to acquire Diamondbacks pitcher Wade Miley, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman confirms. The trade was first reported by FoxSports.com.

The two sides had been rumored to have been in contact about Miley throughout the day, but it was starting to look as though Boston was no longer the front-runner. The 28-year-old Miley posted a 4.34 ERA over 201 1/3 innings last season. Miley is under team control through 2017.

In exchange for Miley, Boston is giving up pitchers Allen Webster and Rubby De La Rosa. De La Rosa posted a 4.43 ERA over 101 2/3 innings last year. He's not set to become a free-agent until 2019. The 24-year-old Webster received 11 starts in the majors last year, posting a 5.03 ERA. Boston will also send make a minor-leaguer in the deal. 

Although the Reds have received calls on the availability of pitchers Johnny Cueto and Aroldis Chapman, it is more likely that Mike Leake or Mat Latos would be dealt this offseason instead, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said they were "close" to a couple of trades on Tuesday, but both fell through, per the Cincinnati Enquirer. When asked about rumors of a Chapman trade, Jocketty said, "I'll listen to anything that makes sense. It was not something we initiated."

Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Monday there will be a competition for the closer's role this spring, even though Jenrry Mejia performed well in the role last season. In fact, Collins even said injured reliever Bobby Parnell, who missed the 2014 season due to Tommy John surgery, is the incumbent closer.

"It's Bobby's (job) to lose," Collins said, per NJ.com. "I love competition."

Collins also mentioned Jeurys Familia and Vic Black as options for the closer's role. The Mets totaled 42 saves in 2014, with Mejia having a team-high 28 saves. Familia was second on the team with five.

The Reds have interest in signing free agent reliever John Axford, a source told MLB.com. However, no deal is close and the right-hander is believed to be drawing interest from four other teams.

The former Brewers closer spent the 2014 season with the Indians and Pirates, going 2-4 with a 3.95 ERA and 10 saves in 62 appearances.
