  • Phil Maton RP | CHC

Padres' Phil Maton: Picks up second hold

Maton fired a clean inning with a pair of strikeouts in Monday's 3-2 win over the Mets.

Maton was able to preserve a narrow lead in the eighth inning, picking up his second hold of the season in the process. The 25-year-old should see an uptick in hold chances following Brad Hand's trade to the Indians, sharing setup duties with Craig Stammen at least until Jose Castillo (hamstring) returns from the disabled list. Maton owns a 2.84 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 9.2 K/9 over 25.1 innings this season.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Padres' Kirby Yates: Strikes out two for third save of season

Yates struck out a pair in a scoreless inning of work to earn his third save of the season Monday against the Mets.

Yates was called upon to close things out as his side carried a one-run lead into the bottom of the ninth. The first man reached on an error by Eric Hosmer, but Yates still proceeded to mow down the next three in dominant fashion to earn the save. Yates carries a strong 1.40 ERA to go along with a stellar 0.85 WHIP this season and should be a solid fantasy option so long as he remains in San Diego.

  • Cardinals' Daniel Poncedeleon: Tosses seven no-hit innings in debut

Poncedeleon tossed seven scoreless, no-hit innings in a no-decision Monday against the Reds, allowing three walks with three strikeouts.

Poncedeleon's debut hardly could've gone better, as he baffled the home team all night before his removal with 116 pitches under his belt. He wasn't especially dominant in any one area, but he induced plenty of weak contact and benefited from solid defense behind him. Unfortunately, the right-hander wasn't rewarded with a win as Bud Norris blew the save, but it was an eye-opening performance nonetheless. Poncedeleon is scheduled next to face the Cubs this weekend.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Collects save vs. Phillies

Jansen allowed one run on one hit while fanning two in the ninth inning as he came away with the save Monday against Philadelphia.

Jansen surrendered a solo home run to Maikel Franco to cut the lead to one, but Jansen would manage to slam the door for his 29th save on the year. Despite allowing a run to cross, Jansen continues to serve as one of the more dominant closers in baseball, as he's posted a 2.42 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 52 strikeouts over 48.1 innings in 2018.

  • Braves' Arodys Vizcaino: Weeks away from throwing

Manager Brian Snitker said Monday that Vizcaino (shoulder) is about 2-to-3 weeks away from being cleared to throw but expects the reliever to return this season, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Vizcaino was put on the 10-day DL due to right shoulder inflammation prior to the All-Star break. He previously spent a couple weeks on the shelf due to the same issue in late June and appeared to have rushed back quicker than he should've, which is why the Braves shut him down from all activities. Snitker added that because he's a reliever and won't require a long process of stretching his arm back out, there's optimism that he will have the requisite time to recover and return to the bullpen later on this year. That said, Snitker didn't offer up a projected timetable on Vizcaino, though more should be known once he's cleared to resume throwing in August.

  • Silvino Bracho RP | CIN

Diamondbacks' Silvino Bracho: Sent down to Triple-A

Bracho was optioned to Triple-A Reno on Monday.

Bracho was removed from the roster to make room for T.J. McFarland (neck), who was activated from the 10-day disabled list. His performances suggest he could return soon, as he's recorded an excellent 2.04 ERA in 17.2 major-league innings this season. He's struck out a third of the batters he's faced while walking just 7.3 percent.

  • Jorge Lopez RP | WAS

Brewers' Jorge Lopez: Called up by Brewers

Lopez was called up to Milwaukee on Monday.

Lopez will take the roster spot of Brent Suter, who was placed on the disabled list with a torn UCL. Lopez has a 3.24 ERA in 16.2 innings for the Brewers this season. He'll likely fill a low-leverage relief role.

  • Brent Suter RP | ATL

Brewers' Brent Suter: Tommy John surgery likely

Suter has a torn UCL and will likely need Tommy John surgery, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Suter left his start Sunday with forearm tightness. That diagnosis often portends a more serious issue, and it appears that it has in this case. If Suter does indeed need surgery, he will likely miss the entire 2019 season. The lefty had been having a mediocre season for Milwaukee, tossing 101.1 innings with a 4.80 ERA. He was placed on the 10-day disabled list Monday.

  • Cardinals' Daniel Poncedeleon: Officially called up for MLB debut

Poncedeleon was recalled from Triple-A Memphis on Monday and will make his major-league debut against the Reds.

The 26-year-old has posted an excellent 2.15 ERA in 92 innings for Triple-A Memphis so far this season. His 26.3 percent strikeout rate is solid, though his 12.3 percent walk rate is slightly worrisome. He could have the chance to stick around for multiple starts if he impresses Monday.

  • Taylor Hearn RP | KC

Pirates' Taylor Hearn: Turns in dominant outing at Double-A

Hearn struck out nine over six scoreless innings Sunday in Double-A Altoona's 6-5 loss to Reading. He scattered three hits and two walks in the 95-pitch outing.

The lefty has been lights-out for Altoona over his last 10 outings, covering 56.1 innings and delivering a pristine 2.08 ERA over that stretch. After posting double-digit K/9 marks at each of his last four stops in the minors, Hearn has seen his strikeout rate tail off slightly in his move to the Eastern League, but the 6-foot-5 lefty still remains one of the top arms in the Pittsburgh system.
