  • Pirates' Carmen Mlodzinski: Placed on injured list

Mlodzinski was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Altoona with a shoulder injury Thursday, retroactive to May 11, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Mlodzinski missed part of the 2021 season due to a shoulder injury but made six starts at Triple-A Indianapolis over the first month of the 2022 campaign. He posted a 4.63 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 23 innings but will now be forced to miss time with his current shoulder issue. It's not yet clear whether the injury is related to the one that forced him to miss time in 2021, and the right-hander doesn't yet have a timetable to return.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Takes loss Wednesday

Hudson (1-2) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against Pittsburgh as a result of allowing one run on three hits over one inning. He struck out one batter.

After the Dodgers scored three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, they turned to the usually reliable Hudson in the bottom of the frame. The right-hander was unable to keep the score knotted, as he served up a one-out, solo home run to Daniel Vogelbach. The Pirates' following two batters reached base as well, but Hudson was able to induce an inning-ending double play on a lineout to escape further damage. This was only the second time in Hudson's 10 outings the season that he has been tagged with a run. He carries a 1.86 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB across 9.2 innings.

  • Tyler Beede RP | CHC

Pirates' Tyler Beede: Claimed by Pittsburgh

Beede was claimed off waivers by the Pirates on Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Beede was designated for assignment by the Giants last week and will now join the Pirates. The right-hander has a 4.66 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB over 9.2 innings this season out of the bullpen.

  • Dauri Moreta RP | PIT

Reds' Dauri Moreta: Sent to minors

Moreta was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Moreta earned a spot on Cincinnati's Opening Day roster but has struggled through 15 appearances, and he's now been demoted after surrendering five runs without recording an out Wednesday. He'll head to Louisville, where he had a 0.68 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 21:4 K:BB over 26.1 innings last year.

  • Lucas Sims RP | CHW

Reds' Lucas Sims: Placed on 15-day IL

Sims was placed on the 15-day injured list with low back spasms Thursday, retroactive to May 11.

The 28-year-old spent the first few weeks of the season on the injured list due to an elbow injury, and he'll now be sidelined with a back issue. Over his six appearances this season, the right-hander has picked up a win and a save while posting a 9.45 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in 6.2 innings. Art Warren, Tony Santillan and Hunter Strickland are the favorites for save chances while Sims is sidelined. It's not yet clear when Sims will be able to return to game action.

  • Giants' Scott Alexander: Catches on with Giants

Alexander signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on May 3.

Alexander is likely ticketed for Triple-A Sacramento, but he'll presumably require some ramp-up time at the Giants' extended spring training facility in Arizona since he's been on the open market since electing free agency in November. The 32-year-old southpaw finished the 2021 campaign on the Dodgers' 60-day injured list while he contended with shoulder inflammation, but he's presumably healthy now.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Slated to start Friday

Hicks, who was scratched from Thursday's start against the Orioles, will start Friday against the Giants, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

While the Cardinals didn't initially provide an explanation for starting Steven Matz on Thursday, the team simply wanted to give Hicks an additional day of rest between starts. Over his last four appearances, Hicks has posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 12.2 innings, and he's failed to last longer than 4.1 innings in any of his starts this year.

  • Jake Reed RP | LAD

Mets' Jake Reed: Rejoins big-league bullpen

The Mets recalled Reed from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Fellow reliever Stephen Nogosek was optioned to Syracuse in a corresponding move, allowing Reed to rejoin the big club for the first time this season. Over his four relief appearances at Syracuse, Reed gave up five earned runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Scratched from scheduled start

Hicks is no longer scheduled to start Thursday's game against the Orioles in St. Louis, with Steven Matz getting the nod instead, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The Cardinals didn't provide an immediate explanation for the switch from Hicks to Matz, but it's conceivable that the former is dealing with an injury or illness that might have made him unavailable to pitch. Additional details regarding Hicks' absence should come within the next few hours, but for now, the right-hander projects to make his next start over the weekend against the Giants.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Braves' Kenley Jansen: Earns win after scoreless ninth

Jansen (1-0) earned the win after not allowing a hit across a scoreless ninth inning during Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Red Sox. He struck out two and walked one.

Jansen came on for the top of the ninth inning with the score tied 3-3 and kept it that way with another strong outing. The closer was then credited for his first win of the season after Orlando Arcia blasted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth. Jansen is a perfect 8-for-8 in save attempts and sports a 17:3 K:BB.
