  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Braves' Kenley Jansen: Rebounds with smooth save

Jansen pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn a save against the Rockies on Thursday.

Jansen entered Thursday having allowed two runs in each of his previous two outings, but Atlanta manager Brian Snitker didn't hesitate to go to him again with his team up by three runs in the ninth. This time Jansen breezed through a scoreless frame, needing just eight pitches to set the side down in order. The veteran closer hasn't always inspired confidence this season and has posted an unappetizing 3.62 ERA, but he leads the majors with 31 saves in 36 attempts.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | LAA

Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Could miss season

Pomeranz (elbow) suffered a recent setback during his rehab stint with Triple-A El Paso, and it's uncertain if he'll be able to return this season, per MLB.com.

Pomeranz began a minor-league rehab assignment in early August and tossed 4.2 innings over two weeks. He hasn't pitched since Aug. 19, however, after feeling discomfort in his left arm while with El Paso. Details about Pomeranz's status have been hazy, but with the season coming to a close, he's running out of time to make it back to big-league action. The lefty reliever hasn't pitched in the majors for over a year, so he'll likely need multiple more rehab outings if he's able to bounce back from his latest setback soon.

  • James Naile RP | STL

Cardinals' James Naile: Recalled to majors

Naile was recalled by the Cardinals on Thursday.

While with Triple-A Memphis this year, Naile has recorded a 3.48 ERA and 1.36 WHIP over 67.1 frames out of the bullpen. He has made two brief stints in the majors, throwing just six innings over five appearances this season and has allowed just two hits in that time. He figures to provide depth to what is already a very solid Cardinals bullpen.

  • Reiss Knehr RP | SD

Padres' Reiss Knehr: Called up Thursday

Knehr was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Knehr will rejoin the Padres' bullpen since active rosters expanded to 28 players Thursday. He's spent the last month in the minors but posted a 1.50 ERA and 0.75 WHIP in 12 innings over four appearances (one start) for San Diego earlier in the season.

  • Kyle Nelson RP | ATL

Diamondbacks' Kyle Nelson: Back from IL

Nelson (back) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Nelson has been out for the past month due to back spasms, but he'll rejoin the Diamondbacks on Thursday after making one rehab appearance with Triple-A Reno. The 26-year-old has eight holds with a 1.57 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB across 34.1 innings this year and should re-enter the high-leverage mix now that he's healthy.

  • Jeff Brigham RP | CHC

    Marlins' Jeff Brigham: Promotion incoming

Brigham is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Brigham was sent down to Jacksonville in mid-August but is set to rejoin the big-league club Friday. The 30-year-old has appeared in five MLB games this season and has given up four runs with a 10:4 K:BB over 9.2 frames.

  • Dodgers' Brusdar Graterol: Could miss more than minimum time

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that he has "moderate concern" about Graterol's inflamed right elbow, which landed him on the 15-day injured list Thursday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Though Roberts said he's hopeful Graterol is ready to return from the IL by mid-to-late September, the right-hander's MRI on Friday will likely give the Dodgers a clearer idea of a recovery timeline. Given that Graterol had already been sidelined for most of the past six weeks due to an inflamed right shoulder, it's a less-than-ideal development that he's dealing with another arm-related injury. While the 24-year-old is out of the Dodgers' late-inning mix, Evan Phillips looks like the clear-cut top candidate to potentially overtake the embattled Craig Kimbrel as the team's closer.

  • Vinny Nittoli RP | BOS

Phillies' Vinny Nittoli: Joins Phils' active roster

Nittoli's contract was selected from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday.

Nittoli was on track to opt out of his minor-league contract with the Blue Jays over the weekend, but he was traded to the Phillies on Wednesday and will join the major-league club since active rosters expanded to 28 players Thursday. The right-hander has made just one career big-league appearance, but he posted a 3.30 ERA and 0.99 WHIP in 46.1 innings over 32 appearances (four starts) at the Triple-A level to begin the 2022 campaign. He'll likely pitch mainly in low-leverage situations for Philadelphia.

  • Andrew Vasquez RP | DET

Giants' Andrew Vasquez: Passes through waivers

The Giants outrighted Vasquez to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

He'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers when the Giants designated him for assignment earlier this week. Vazquez has also spent time with the Blue Jays and Phillies organizations in 2022, but his only big-league action came in Toronto, with whom he made nine relief appearances.

  • Tayler Scott RP | ATL

Padres' Tayler Scott: Kicks off rehab assignment

Scott (finger) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, per MLB.com.

Scott hasn't pitched in a big-league game since Aug. 12 and is recovering from a finger laceration suffered while walking past a table in his hotel room. The righty reliever struggled in his first rehab outing Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits over two-thirds of an inning. Scott probably won't need a lengthy rehab, but it's unclear if he has a spot waiting for him in San Diego's bullpen when he's healthy enough to return.
