  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Yankees' Kirby Yates: Optioned back to Triple-A

Yates was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday.

The Yankees decided to make a change in the bullpen after Yates allowed three earned runs in 1.0 inning Monday against against the Rangers. Conor Mullee, who owns a .52 ERA at Triple-A over 34.1 innings, was recalled to take Yates' spot on the active roster.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Lands on DL with biceps tendinitis

Colome (biceps) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.

The move was made retroactive to June 19 as Colome had not appeared in a game since June 18 when he allowed three earned runs in .2 innings against the Giants. The Rays have diagnosed him with tendinitis in his right biceps and there is no timetable for his return at this point. With Brad Boxberger (oblique) also on the shelf, the Rays could go with a closer-by-committee approach until they can get to the All-Star break. Xavier Cedeno and Erasmo Ramirez would likely be the primary closing options while Colome and Boxberger are sidelined.

  • Rays' Andrew Bellatti: Outrighted to Triple-A

Bellatti cleared waivers Tuesday and was outrighted to Triple-A Durham, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 24-year-old righty was DFA'd on Friday to clear room for Oswaldo Arcia. After clearing waivers, the Rays outrighted him to Triple-A, where he figures to serve primarily as a reliever. He owns a 8.44 ERA across 5.1 innings of work at Triple-A this season.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Blue Jays' Jesse Chavez: Delivers disappointing performance Monday

Chavez allowed two runs, three hits and a walk while recording just one out in Monday's loss to the Rockies.

Just when it looked like he was finally pulling it all together, Chavez has a disastrous stretch to put himself back in manager John Gibbons' doghouse. In five appearances since June 19, Chavez has given up six runs on eight hits over 3.2 innings. Gibbons may have no choice but to deploy the right-handed reliever in low-leverage situations going forward.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Rays' Brad Boxberger: Scheduled to throw off mound Thursday

Boxberger (oblique) is tentatively scheduled to throw off a mound Thursday, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Boxberger played catch Monday for the first time since May 31, the date of his last appearance in a game. His recovery timetable was initially estimated at four-to-eight weeks, and while it's now clear he won't hit the low end of that range, it's still possible he could fall in the middle. The Rays likely hope to have him back either shortly before or after the All-Star break.

  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Takes no-decision despite quality start against Angels

McHugh allowed two runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts over six innings in a no-decision Monday against the Angels.

McHugh now has three straight no-decisions despite quality starts in all three outings. He had a tough opening to the season, as he owned a 6.59 ERA after his first six starts, but he has tightened things up since then. In his 10 starts since, he now owns a 3.71 ERA with a sharp 59:17 K:BB. That's right about in line with his performance from 2015 -- 3.89 ERA, 3.2 K/BB in 203.2 innings -- and a fair representation of what to expect from McHugh going forward.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Earns first career win Monday night

Mengden had an excellent outing on Monday night against the Giants, allowing four hits and two runs over 7.2 innings to earn his first career win.

Mengden was throwing a shutout through seven innings, but allowed two runs in the eighth before being lifted for a reliever. He has now made four starts with the A's and has yet to allow more than three runs in any of the outings while striking out over a batter per inning. Mengden's solid start has solidified his spot in the A's rotation and he is next scheduled to take the hill on Sunday against the Pirates.

  • Matt Strahm RP | KC

Royals' Matthew Strahm: Finding success in Double-A

Strahm has been having a solid year in Double-A Northwest Arkansas, putting up a 3.17 ERA with 70 strikeouts to only 15 walks in his first 14 starts.

Strahm continues to succeed as he climbs the minor league ladder. While his strikeout numbers are down a touch from last season, his command continues to be excellent.

  • Rays' Danny Farquhar: Returns from Durham

Farquhar was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Farquhar was up with the Rays over the weekend, serving as the 26th man for Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore. He was sent back to Triple-A following the two-game set but will now return to the bullpen, filling the roster spot vacated by Ryan Webb, who was DFA'd on Monday. Farquhar has conceded eight hits and three earned runs through 6.1 innings of major league work on the season.

  • Ryan Webb RP | SF

Rays' Ryan Webb: DFA'd by Rays

Webb was designated for assignment Monday.

Webb was just activated from the DL over the weekend, and he'll now be removed from the 40-man roster. The right-hander will be subject to waivers, and if he passes through unclaimed will likely land at Triple-A. Tampa Bay recalled right-hander Danny Farquhar to take Webb's spot on the roster.
