    Tigers' Tyler Holton: Takes loss as Thursday's opener

    Holton (5-5) took the loss against the Yankees on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two across one frame.

    Holton recorded both of his strikeouts in the first inning but also gave up a solo home run to Aaron Judge before being tagged for a second run in the second frame when. It was Holton's sixth time serving as an opener this year, and he now sits at a 4.00 ERA and 1.13 WHIP across 69.2 innings overall.

    Yankees' Ryan Yarbrough: Earns first save of 2025

    Yarbrough earned the save in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Tigers, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two across three innings.

    Cam Schlittler limited the Tigers to one run over the first six innings, and Yarbrough took care of the rest across the final three frames of Thursday's win. With Yarbrough being used in long relief to close out Thursday's game, the Yankees will have a fresh set of bullpen arms out for Friday's series opener against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Yarbrough has a 3.82 ERA and 1.15 WHIP across 63.2 innings this season.

    Rays' Ian Seymour: Falls to White Sox

    Seymour (3-2) took the loss Thursday against the White Sox, allowing three runs on five hits and two walks across 5.1 innings. He struck out five.

    It's the second straight loss for Seymour, who gave up five runs (though just one earned) over four innings in a relief appearance against the Guardians last Friday. Despite his recent stumble, Seymour has been solid when working in the rotation, allowing just four earned runs across 15.1 innings in three starts. The left-hander is currently lined up to face the Blue Jays at home his next time out, should Tampa elect to keep Seymour in the rotation.

    Angels' Reid Detmers: Lands on IL

    The Angels placed Detmers on the 15-day injured list Thursday with left elbow inflammation.

    Detmers had to depart Wednesday's game against the Twins due to the injury after not liking how the ball was coming out of his hand. The injury may end the southpaw's campaign as he won't be eligible to return until the final series of the season. In a corresponding move, the Angels recalled Chase Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake.

    Angels' Chase Silseth: Recalled back up

    The Angels recalled Silseth from Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday.

    The moves comes as the Angels place Reid Detmers (elbow) on the 15-day injured list. Silseth appeared in one game for Triple-A Salt Lake after his demotion Sunday, in which he allowed no runs on two hits in one inning.

    Orioles' Keegan Akin: Picks up fifth save

    Akin earned the save in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Pirates, allowing one hit while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.

    Akin is up to five saves this season, with two coming since the start of September. The left-hander has pitched well of late, working to a 1.88 ERA in his last 12 appearances (14.1 innings). Akin and Yennier Cano should continue to share closing duties down the stretch. Through 57.1 innings this season, Akin sports a 3.14 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and 54 strikeouts.

    Tigers' Drew Sommers: Back in Toledo

    The Tigers optioned Sommers to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

    The 25-year-old lefty joined the big-league bullpen Tuesday when Bailey Horn went on the paternity list and will now head back to the minors following the latter's return. Sommers has given up six earned runs in just three MLB innings this year, but he's put himself in a position to audition for next year's Opening Day bullpen by turning in a 3.03 ERA and 1.08 WHIP through 35.2 frames in Triple-A.

    Tigers' Bailey Horn: Rejoins team

    The Tigers reinstated Horn from the paternity list Thursday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

    Horn will reclaim a middle-relief role in the Tigers' bullpen after spending two days away from the team for the birth of his child. Drew Sommers was sent back to Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding move.

    Rays' Joey Gerber: Summoned from minors

    The Rays recalled Gerber from Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

    Gerber was added to the 40-man roster in July, but this will be his first stint in the big leagues since 2020. The 28-year-old has collected a 6.23 ERA with Durham this season, but that has come with an impressive 54:15 K:BB over 43.1 innings.

    Rays' Eric Orze: Back up with big club

    The Rays recalled Orze from Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

    Orze has spent the last two months in the minors despite holding a 2.72 ERA and 38:15 K:BB over 39.2 innings for the Rays this season. He'll give manager Kevin Cash a fresh relief arm after a bullpen game Wednesday.
