  • Ryan Pressly RP | CHC

Twins' Ryan Pressly: Struggles continue in bullpen meltdown

Pressly gave up five runs on three hits and walk while retiring one batter in Monday's loss to Houston. Pressly's ERA rose to 8.50

Pressly and the bullpen combined to give up a six-run lead in the eighth and ninth innings. Pressly has 23 strikeouts in 18 innings, but he's still giving up too much contact with 20 hits and four home runs allowed. His continued struggles may see him moved to a low-profile role in the bullpen.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Charged with blown save, loss against White Sox

Barnes (3-2) allowed two runs on three hits while striking out two in Monday's 5-4 loss to the White Sox.

Barnes, who entered the game having thrown six consecutive scoreless outings, had difficulty with the bottom third of Chicago's order. He yielded a leadoff triple to Yolmer Sanchez on a 1-2 curveball and a double to Kevan Smith that knotted the game. Melky Cabrera later poked a single behind second base to knock in the go-ahead run. Despite giving up the lead and a possible win for David Price, who had an encouraging 2017 debut after dealing with elbow soreness since February, Barnes should remain a high-leverage reliever for the Red Sox.

  • Justin Wilson RP | BOS

Tigers' Justin Wilson: Grabs fourth save Monday

Wilson notched his fourth save in Monday's 10-7 win over the Royals, pitching a scoreless ninth and issuing a walk.

The 29-year-old rebounded from a rough night against the White Sox on Saturday when he gave up three earned runs on four hits in one inning. Wilson was able to turn in his first hitless appearance since May 13, disposing of the potent trio of Lorenzo Cain, Eric Hosmer and Salvador Perez after walking Mike Moustakas to start the frame. The lefty has been a bit inconsistent since taking over the closer role following the demotion of Francisco Rodriguez, but he's now notched three saves in the four opportunities he's received in that span.

  • Daniel Norris RP | CLE

Tigers' Daniel Norris: Gets pitch count up Monday

Norris didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 10-7 win over the Royals and gave up three earned runs on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman over five innings. He struck out four.

The young lefty was particularly bedeviled by Whit Merrifield, who tagged him for a solo home run in the third and an RBI triple in the fourth after Norris had plunked Salvador Perez. The 24-year-old did make it through at least five innings for the fourth straight start -- despite working up to 90 pitches -- and has now given up three earned runs or fewer in three of his last four trips to the mound. Monday's outing was also notably his first without issuing multiple free passes this season, as his location remains a work in progress. Norris will look to grab his first win since May 1 when he faces the White Sox on Saturday.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Plays catch Sunday and Monday

Chapman (shoulder) was able to play catch over the weekend and on Monday, Zach Braziller of the New York Post reports.

The left-hander was able to increase his workload from 25 throws from 60 feet to 50 tosses from the same distance and reported no pain or discomfort. Chapman is traveling with the club on its current seven-game road trip, but manager Joe Girardi downplayed the idea that the closer would return at any point during that stretch. Still, it's a positive sign that Chapman has been able to test out his arm on consecutive days without incident, so he could be ready to ramp up his rehab program in the coming days.

  • White Sox's David Robertson: Saves third straight game

Robertson struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to save the White Sox's 5-4 victory over the Red Sox on Monday.

Perceptions can change quickly in baseball. Entering the Memorial Day weekend, Robertson hadn't had a save opportunity in nearly a month and converted just five saves -- last among front-line closers that have pitched all season -- but he saved a third straight game for the White Sox and bumped his season total up to eight. A closer that may have been regarded as having low value changed that perception over a holiday weekend. If pitching three straight days (30 pitches) means Robertson is unavailable Tuesday, it's unclear which reliever manager Rick Renteria will call upon if a closer is needed. Tommy Kahnle might be the first choice but he's pitched three of the last four days. After Kahnle, Anthony Swarzak is next in line.

  • Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Roughed up in spot start

Mengden (0-1) allowed five runs on seven hits (three home runs) while walking one and striking out one over 3.1 innings in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Indians.

It was a tough matchup on the road against the defending AL champions, and Mengden wasn't up to the task. His stay in Oakland's rotation isn't likely to last long with Kendall Graveman (shoulder) and Jesse Hahn (triceps) not expected to be out for long, and Mengden isn't even guaranteed another go of it. While the 24-year-old did fan 71 hitters in 72 innings in his rookie season, he also sported an unimpressive 6.50 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 14 starts.

  • Jose De Leon RP | BOS

Rays' Jose De Leon: Optioned to Triple-A

De Leon was sent down to Triple-A Durham after making his season debut Monday night, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

De Leon was called up to give the Rays some bullpen reinforcements after Sunday's game required them to use seven relievers. He earned the win Monday night, but that was despite allowing three runs on four hits over just 2.2 innings. With the Rays' bullpen still in rough condition after six pitchers worked Monday night, expect another fresh arm to come up from Durham in De Leon's place.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Rays' Brad Boxberger: Throws successful batting practice session

Boxberger (back) threw a 20-pitch batting practice session Monday and is likely to throw another Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The veteran reliever got through his session without a hitch, and if he's able to enjoy a successful encore Thursday, he could start a rehab assignment at some point next week. That pace would keep Boxberger on track for his stated goal of making his 2017 big-league debut by mid-June.

  • Astros' Jordan Jankowski: Optioned after first win

Jankowski was sent back to Triple-A Fresno after recording his first major-league win Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Jankowski was optioned after allowing four runs on five hits (two homers) over 2.1 innings. He now owns a 16.20 ERA and 2.40 WHIP across 3.1 big-league frames in two games this season. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to Tuesday's game.
