  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Rangers' Matt Moore: May have start skipped

Manager Jeff Banister reported Tuesday that Moore may not make his next turn through the rotation, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The Rangers are noncommittal on Moore's current spot in the starting rotation, as the veteran maintains a brutal 7.88 ERA and 2.04 WHIP on the year. If he is indeed bumped from the rotation, minor leaguers Austin Bibens-Dirkx and Yovani Gallardo appear to be realistic candidates to start in his place.

  • Angels' Eduardo Paredes: Shipped back to Triple-A

Paredes was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Paredes was sent back to the minors to free up a roster spot for Tuesday's starter, Jaime Barria, who was promoted from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move. The 23-year-old reliever owns a brutal 6.97 ERA across 10.1 innings with the Angels this season, though his numbers with the Bees are much more respectable (2.95 ERA across 18.1 frames).

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Recalled ahead of start

Barria was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake and will start Tuesday against the Mariners, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Barria was brought back to the majors ahead of his scheduled start Tuesday. Through seven outings with the big club this season, the 21-year-old righty has posted an impressive 2.48 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. With Shohei Ohtani (elbow) sidelined for an extended period and perhaps the rest of the season, Barria could stick in the Angels' rotation. Eduardo Paredes was sent to the minors in a corresponding roster move.

  • Miguel Castro RP | CHW

Orioles' Miguel Castro: Option to start Wednesday

Castro is a candidate to start Wednesday against the Red Sox, Jon Meoli of The Baltimore Sun reports.

With Andrew Cashner (back) landing on the disabled list, Castro and Yefry Ramirez are the leading candidates to make the spot start. Castro owns an impressive 2.84 ERA across 38 innings this season, working primarily as a long reliever. That said, the 23-year-old doesn't miss many bats (6.2 K/9) and likely wouldn't be given a long leash if he were called upon to start Wednesday, so there should be better streaming options available.

  • Donnie Hart RP | BAL

Orioles' Donnie Hart: Brought back to majors

Hart was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

Hart will offer a fresh arm out of the bullpen following Monday's 12-inning affair. The 27-year-old owns a solid 1.59 ERA across 5.2 major-league innings this season. He'll take the roster spot of Andrew Cashner (back), who was sent to the disabled list in a corresponding roster move.

  • Carson Smith RP | BOS

Red Sox's Carson Smith: Set for season-ending surgery

Smith will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Wednesday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Smith has been sidelined since May 15 with a shoulder injury, and he recently received a third opinion that determined the issue would require surgery to heal. It's another tough break for the 28-year-old, who has pitched just 23.2 innings over the past three seasons due to injuries. He'll look to get back to full health before the start of spring training next year.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: Set for major-league debut Thursday

Manager Aaron Boone said Loaisiga will be recalled from Double-A Trenton to start Thursday's game against the Rays, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

With Masahiro Tanaka (hamstring) landing on the disabled list over the weekend, Loaisiga will be given the first opportunity to take his turn in the rotation. The 23-year-old compiled a combined 3.00 ERA and 58:4 K:BB across 10 starts (45 innings) split between High-A Tampa and Double-A Trenton prior to earning the promotion. Seeing as Loaisiga has pitched just 25 innings above High-A (and none at Triple-A), it may be wise to wait and see how he fares in his big-league debut before considering him as a streaming option.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Grabs 24th save

Diaz notched his 24th save by firing a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's win over the Angels. He struck out two batters.

The hard-throwing closer ripped through the trio of Luis Valbuena, Martin Maldonado and Ian Kinsler on a quick 11 pitches, eight of which he threw for strikes. Diaz had given up a pair of hits in each of his last two outings, so Monday's effort was a return to the type of dominant form he's shown throughout the early part of the season. The 24-year-old has been busy in the early going of June, already logging five saves, three of which have come over the last four days.

  • Matt Belisle RP | CLE

Twins' Matt Belisle: Signs with Twins

Belisle signed a major-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday.

It's somewhat of a surprise that Belisle was able to land a major-league deal, as he's 38 years old and posted a 5.06 ERA with a paltry 9.1 percent strikeout rate in 10.2 innings before being released by Cleveland. He'll head back to Minnesota, where he tossed 60.1 innings with a 4.03 ERA last season. He picked up nine saves for the Twins late in the year after closer Brandon Kintzler was traded, but it would be surprising to see him in a high-leverage role right away upon arrival.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Playing catch

Pomeranz (left biceps tendinitis) played catch for the second time Sunday, but reported a stiff neck when he arrived at the ballpark Monday, Bill Koch of the Providence Journal reports.

The Red Sox aren't calling this a setback yet, but it will delay his eventual return. Tuesday is the 10th day of Pomeranz's stay on the disabled list, so we're looking at least another week of downtime for the left-hander.
