  • Orioles' Jimmy Yacabonis: Will start during Monday's doubleheader

Yacabonis will be recalled from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of Monday's doubleheader against the Yankees to start the first game of the twin bill, Eduardo A. Encina of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Yacabonis is scheduled to make his second start of the season for the Orioles, with his first outing coming June 28 against the Mariners. In that start, Yacabonis lasted four innings, giving up six hits and a walk while fanning five. The 26-year-old right-hander has fared better at Norfolk (2.91 ERA, 1.07 WHIP in 55.2 innings), but he'll face a stiff test Monday against a Yankees lineup that paces the majors in home runs.

  • Drew VerHagen RP | STL

Tigers' Drew VerHagen: Set for activation Monday

The Tigers will activate VerHagen (nose) from the 10-day disabled list ahead of Monday's series opener against the Rays.

VerHagen has been sidelined for the past couple of weeks with a broken nose. After checking out fine physically during a trio of rehab appearances with Triple-A Toledo, he'll re-enter the Detroit bullpen Monday, likely working in middle or long relief.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Takes loss Sunday despite strong effort

Fulmer (3-8) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers despite allowing only three runs (two earned) over seven innings. He gave up five hits and three walks, and struck out six.

All the damage against Fulmer came in the first two innings, including a solo home run by Jurickson Profar two batters into the game, but the 25-year-old righty settled in after that. However, the Tigers would muster just four hits and no runs, so Fulmer was saddled with a tough-luck loss. After a rough May (6.32 ERA in six starts), Fulmer has been much better since the start of June, posting a 3.47 ERA over his past seven outings. He'll get a tough test in his next scheduled start, which is slated for Saturday in Houston.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Goes unused Sunday

Chapman (knee) wasn't used in relief during Sunday's 2-1 win over the Blue Jays in 10 innings.

According to Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said prior to the contest that Chapman "might be available," but it was David Robertson who ended up getting the call for the save situation. It may just have been a case where Boone viewed Chapman more as a last-resort option, with the Yankees instead preferring the closer get another day off to recover from the left knee tendinitis that flared up Saturday. Since the issue isn't viewed as a major concern, Chapman's fantasy owners will still probably want to keep him active heading into the new week.

  • Ryan Brasier RP | TEX

Red Sox's Ryan Brasier: Returns to majors after five-year hiatus

The Red Sox selected Brasier's contract from Triple-A Pawtucket ahead of Sunday's game against the Royals, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

After making seven appearances with the Angels in 2013, Brasier underwent Tommy John surgery the following season and hadn't resurfaced in the big leagues until Sunday. He earned the call to the majors after dazzling as the closer for Pawtucket, recording 13 saves in 40.1 innings to go with a 1.34 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 40:8 K:BB. Expect him to work in the middle innings or handle mop-up duty during his initial appearances with Boston.

  • Cory Gearrin RP | NYY

Rangers' Cory Gearrin: Acquired by Rangers

The Rangers acquired Gearrin, Austin Jackson and minor-leaguer Jason Bahr from the Giants on Sunday, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Gearrin had a 4.20 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 30 innings with the Giants this season, but hasn't allowed a run in his last six appearances. The 32-year-old seems slated for a middle-relief role out of the Rangers' bullpen, but he could work toward a higher-leverage role if the team offloads any of its back-end pieces for prospects.

  • Brian Johnson RP | BOS

Red Sox's Brian Johnson: Hits DL with hip inflammation

The Red Sox placed Johnson on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with left hip inflammation, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

The transaction is retroactive to July 5, but the timing of the injury likely means the Red Sox won't bring Johnson back from the DL until after the All-Star break. Johnson had been serving as Boston's fifth starter for the last two turns through the rotation, conceding three runs on 11 hits and three walks over 8.2 innings in those contests. The Red Sox recalled William Cuevas from Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move and could turn to him to make a spot start Monday against the Rangers, when Johnson's next turn is scheduled to come up.

  • Jakob Junis RP | TEX

Royals' Jakob Junis: Hits DL, won't start Sunday

The Royals placed Junis on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with lower-back inflammation, Maria Torres of The Kansas City Star reports.

Junis had been scheduled to take the hill for the series finale Sunday against the Red Sox, but that assignment will now fall to long reliever Heath Fillmyer following Junis' surprise move to the DL. It's not clear if Junis experienced the back issue during his last start July 2 against the Indians or if it crept up during a between-starts bullpen session or warmups Sunday. In any case, the injury may keep Junis on the shelf through the All-Star break, as the Royals could get by with a four-man rotation through next weekend following Fillmyer's spot start.

  • Tim Mayza RP | PHI

Blue Jays' Tim Mayza: Called up to big leagues

The Blue Jays recalled Mayza from Triple-A Buffalo on Sunday.

Mayza will head back to the big leagues just four days after being optioned to Triple-A with fellow reliever Rhiner Cruz (groin) hitting the 10-day disabled list. Over 12 appearances with the Blue Jays this season, Mayza has posted a 3.75 ERA and has struck out 10 over 12 innings. He'll likely work mostly in lower-leverage spots during his current stint with Toronto.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Makes second rehab start

Pomeranz (biceps) allowed one run on five hits and two walks while striking out one over three innings in a rehabilitation start for Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday, Bill Koch of the Providence Journal reports.

This was Pomeranz's second rehab start, and the results were much-improved from his first one. Five soft singles replaced the four home runs he allowed in his initial rehab start. The hope was that the left-hander could last four innings, but the pitch count built up over three innings, so the PawSox had him throw another 10-to-12 pitches in the bullpen following his departure. That puts Pomeranz in line to throw five innings or more when he makes his next start.
