Evan Phillips RP | LAD
Orioles' Evan Phillips: Listed as Monday's starter
Phillips is listed as the starter for Monday's game against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Phillips will get the ball for Monday's series opener with Andrew Cashner (knee) unable to take his turn. The 24-year-old has made just one career start -- with Triple-A Gwinnett in 2017 -- so this will likely be a bullpen game for the Orioles. Phillips has allowed 10 runs (eight earned) through 3.1 innings with the big club this season.

Aroldis Chapman RP | BOS
Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Fires successful sim game Monday
Chapman (knee) threw a 22-pitch simulated game Monday, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Everything went off without a hitch as Chapman faced Tyler Wade and Kyle Higashioka. The Yankees will likely wait and see how the closer feels Tuesday, but if everything checks out OK there's a chance he could be cleared to rejoin the bullpen ahead of Tuesday's series opener against the Red Sox.

Daniel Mengden RP | KC
Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Slated to work as primary pitcher Tuesday
Mengden is scheduled to work as the primary pitcher behind opener Liam Hendriks in Tuesday's game against the Angels, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
After making his first 16 appearances this season as a member of the Oakland rotation, Mengden has shifted to the bullpen since being recalled from Triple-A Nashville in late August. Despite the change in when he enters games, Mengden has remained a de facto starter, covering four-plus innings in three of his four relief outings. The Athletics aren't likely to deviate from how they use Mengden anytime soon, as he's been exceptional in the "primary pitcher" role with a 1.72 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in his four appearances.

Jose Leclerc RP | SD
Rangers' Jose Leclerc: Unavailable for save situation Sunday
Leclerc was not used to close out Sunday's game against the Padres because he had pitched the previous two days, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Leclerc expended 38 pitches in appearances Friday and Saturday and was rightly given the day off Sunday. Jeffrey Springs was given the save chance Sunday, but it didn't end well. He ceded a walkoff grand slam to San Diego's Franciso Mejia.

Chris Devenski RP | NYM
Astros' Chris Devenski: Declining use, postseason spot in jeopardy
Devenski has appeared in three games since he was activated from the disabled list Aug. 29. He's allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits, including two home runs, over three innings.
Devenski has looked rusty since his return from nearly a month-long stint on the DL due to a hamstring injury, but hasn't been given an opportunity to knock off that rust. He most recently appeared in Saturday's blowout win, his first appearance after an 11-day break, as manager A.J. Hinch doesn't appear eager to use the right-hander. At this point, a spot on the postseason roster appears unlikely for the 2017 All-Star, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Jaime Barria RP | CLE
Angels' Jaime Barria: Strikes out three Mariners
Barria didn't factor into the decision against Seattle on Sunday, giving up three earned runs on six hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one in the Angels' 4-3 victory.
The 22-year-old couldn't quite pick up his 11th win of the season, but he pitched well enough to allow his team to procure the one-run victory. He's been solid overall in his 24 starts for the Angels this season, as he's now sporting a 3.61 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP to go along with a 91 strikeouts in 119.2 innings. He'll take the mound next against the Astros on Saturday.
-
Ken Giles RP | ATL
Blue Jays' Ken Giles: Records 22nd save
Giles gave up a hit and struck out two while tossing a scoreless ninth inning and picking up the save Sunday against the Yankees.
Giles continues to serve as a reliable closer for Toronto, racking up three saves in the past week. He hasn't allowed a run since Aug. 29 against Baltimore, and he appears to have found new life with the Blue Jays after struggling earlier in the season with the Astros. Giles owns a 5.05 ERA and 1.27 WHIP with 49 punchouts through 46.1 innings this year.

Andrew Kittredge RP | BAL
Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Notches win in bullpen game
Kittredge (3-2) threw two scoreless innings and issued one walk while striking out one and was awarded the victory Sunday against Oakland.
Although Diego Castillo served as the opening pitcher, Kittredge came on in relief during the second inning and departed two frames later in a 2-0 ballgame. He's managed to nab two victories over the past two games, as he was called upon to record one out in Saturday's win. The 28-year-old right-hander sits near the middle of the pack within Tampa Bay's bullpen, so he figures to see mid-to-high-leverage opportunities in the final few weeks of the regular season.
-
Jakob Junis RP | TEX
Royals' Jakob Junis: Chased early in no-decision
Junis tossed three innings Sunday, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk in the 9-6 loss to Minnesota, though he didn't factor into the decision. He yielded three home runs and struck out three.
It's actually somewhat impressive that Junis coughed up three long balls and eight hits but only managed to get tagged for four runs. All three homers were solo shots, coming from Max Kepler, Tyler Austin and Johnny Field. The short outing bumped his ERA up to 4.42 in 165 innings this season. He'll look to get back in the win column against Detroit on Friday.

Luis Ortiz RP | NYM
Orioles' Luis Ortiz: Unlikely to be available soon
Ortiz (hamstring) will undergo an MRI on Monday or Tuesday and is unlikely to be available soon, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Ortiz lasted just five outs into his first career start Friday against the White Sox before exiting with a left hamstring injury. The severity of the issue is not yet clear, but the Orioles likely aren't banking on him pitching again in 2018 with just two weeks left in the season.
