Hand (4-3) took the loss Tuesday and blew his first save of the season, coughing up five runs on five hits without recording an out in the ninth inning as Cleveland was toppled 8-6 by the Royals.

The normally dominant southpaw simply didn't have his best stuff, with a Hunter Dozier grand slam putting an end to his night and his perfect closing record. Hand still sports a 2.36 ERA and 50:8 K:BB through 34.1 innings on the year, with 22 saves in 36 appearances.

Chavez (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday, allowing one unearned run on five hits over 6.1 innings while striking out seven in a 5-3 victory over the Tigers.

It was the 35-year-old's longest outing in over two years, and while the quality of the opponent has to be taken into consideration, Chavez bought himself some job security in his new role as the Rangers' fifth starter. He'll carry a 2.79 ERA and 48:15 K:BB through 51.2 innings into his next outing Sunday in Tampa Bay.

Martin sustained a potentially serious elbow injury during Sunday's start for Triple-A Round Rock and was placed on the minor-league injured list, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Martin allowed three runs over four innings during the start and exited after throwing 78 pitches. The specifics of the issue are currently unclear but more information should be available after the 23-year-old is evaluated in Houston.

Green will serve as the opener Tuesday against Toronto, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Green hasn't thrown more than two innings in any appearance this season, so don't expect him to go deep on this occasion. Nestor Cortes is expect to follow him out of the bullpen.

Mengden will be recalled from Triple-A to start Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The 26-year-old righty has a 3.47 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 49.1 innings at Triple-A this season, but fared much worse (5.09 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, 19 strikeouts) in 23 MLB innings earlier in the year. Even so, he should be given a bit of a leash this time around, given Oakland's depleted big-league rotation.

Covey (shoulder) will make a rehab start Wednesday with Triple-A Charlotte, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

This would keep Covey on schedule to be activated and start July 2 against the Tigers, which seems like the tentative plan. Covey has a 4.58 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 37.1 innings in the majors this season.

Torres agreed to a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday, Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports.

He recently elected free agency rather than an outright assignment to Triple-A as a member of the Tigers, but the deal with the Twins was apparently more to his liking. Torres will serve as organizational relief depth going forward.

Scott was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Tuesday.

Scott allowed 10 runs (eight earned) in 7.2 innings for the Mariners this season. He didn't fare all that much better in 35 innings for Triple-A Tacoma, posting a 6.43 ERA. He'll be optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles, with Sean Gilmartin designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

McHugh (elbow) was activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

McHugh had been out for over a month with elbow soreness. He began the season as a starter but was moved to the bullpen shortly before getting injured and is likely to fill that role again this time around. A return to the rotation can't be ruled out at some point down the line, though he'll have to improve significantly on his 6.04 ERA if he's to earn that chance.

Santiago will start for Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.

Santiago pops up on the radar after the White Sox designated Odrisamer Despaigne for assignment Monday. Chicago has three healthy starters and will go with a bullpen game Tuesday, so it needs bodies for the rotation. Santiago served as a starter in the minor leagues with the Mets earlier this season and last started May 16 (seven innings) for Triple-A Syracuse. On his current five-day schedule, he could join the major-league club this weekend, possibly to start Sunday at home against the Twins.
