Kelly was removed in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Blue Jays due to right oblique tightness, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports. He retired three of the seven batters he faced and allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk.

Kelly appeared to be grabbing at his back when he was lifted in the sixth inning of Sunday's game against the Blue Jays, but it was apparently his side that was the source of his discomfort. According to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald, Kelly is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday as the Red Sox look to determine the extent of the injuries, but given that even mild oblique injuries often require multi-week recoveries, the 30-year-old right-hander may be headed to the 15-day injured list. The Red Sox are planning on bringing right-hander Jordan Hicks (toe) back from the IL during the upcoming week, so Kelly could be placed on the shelf in a corresponding move.

Kelly entered the game in the top of the fifth inning and completed the frame, allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out a batter. He then took the mound for the top of the sixth and opened the frame by hitting Toronto's Andres Gimenez with a pitch before he was then visited on the mound by a team trainer. According to McAdam, Kelly seemed to be stretching his lower back or side while speaking to the trainer, and after the right-hander threw two warmup pitches, the decision was made to pull him from the game. The Red Sox should have more details regarding the nature of Kelly's injury later Sunday.

The White Sox optioned Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

The right-hander received his first call-up to the big leagues June 20 and allowed two runs with a 5:4 K:BB over four innings in two appearances. Gonzalez was optioned to create roster space for Jonathan Cannon (back), who was reinstated from the injured list to start Sunday against the Giants.

The Blue Jays placed Schultz on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right middle finger inflammation.

Schultz's finger issue presumably cropped up during his appearance in the Blue Jays' 15-1 loss to the Red Sox on Saturday, when he retired just four of the 10 batters he faced while allowing three earned runs on five hits and one walk. The Blue Jays recalled Justin Bruihl from Triple-A Buffalo to join the bullpen as a replacement for Schultz, who won't be eligible to return until after the All-Star break.

The 28-year-old lefty will join the Toronto bullpen as a replacement for Paxton Schultz, who was placed on the 15-day injured list due to finger inflammation. Bruihl has made two relief appearances for Toronto but has otherwise spent the bulk of the 2025 season at Buffalo, posting a 3.68 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB across 29.1 Triple-A innings.

The Orioles optioned Strowd to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday.

Strowd will give up his spot in the Orioles bullpen to right-hander Matt Bowman, whose contract was selected from Triple-A. After being called up from Norfolk on Friday, Strowd made appearances in the first two contests of Baltimore's series against Tampa Bay, covering 3.1 innings while allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk.

Baltimore cleared room for Bowman on the 40-man roster by designating Luis F. Castillo for assignment and on the 26-man roster by optioning Kade Strowd to Norfolk. Bowman will be up with the big club for the third time this season, after he accrued a 4.57 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB in 21.2 innings over 18 appearances in his prior two stints with Baltimore.

Murphy walked two and struck out two over two scoreless innings in Saturday's 15-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Murphy, who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Friday, made his first appearance for the Red Sox since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of 2024. The southpaw will remain in a low-leverage role as he works off the rust.

Taylor earned a save against the Giants on Saturday, striking out two batters over two perfect innings.

After Adrian Houser fired seven scoreless frames, Taylor was asked to protect a tenuous 1-0 lead. The rookie right-hander excelled in the assignment, retiring all six batters he faced on 31 pitches (21 strikes). Taylor was especially impressive in the ninth frame, when he struck out both Rafael Devers and Dominic Smith. The 23-year-old righty has two saves and a hold over his past three appearances and has each of Chicago's past two saves, so he appears to be the team's current top choice to close games.

The Angels recalled Fermin from Triple-A Salt Lake on Saturday.

Fermin has logged 9.1 innings across 10 appearances with the Angels this season, posting a 4.82 ERA and 1.61 WHIP with a 15:5 K:BB and no holds or saves. The righty reliever dealt with a right elbow impingement in May but was activated from a stint on the IL on June 6 and posted a 9:2 K:BB across 5.1 frames with Salt Lake between then and his call-up Saturday. To make room for Fermin on the 26-man roster, veteran reliever Hector Neris was designated for assignment.
