Kay will work as the primary pitcher Thursday against the Orioles and will follow opener Wilmer Font, Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun reports.

For fantasy purposes, this actually gives him a better chance of getting a win, although it's a curious strategy for a rebuilding team looking to develop a young starting pitcher. Kay has given up seven earned runs on 11 hits and four walks while striking out 10 over 10 innings in two big-league starts.

Fairbanks gave up one run (no earned) on two hits and no walks while striking out one through one inning to record his second save in an 8-7 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Fairbanks received the call in the 11th inning with a two-run lead, and he allowed a run after a fielding error but recovered to nail down his second save. The save opportunity came after Emilio Pagan had already pitched two innings, so this is not likely a sign of future save chances. The 25-year-old has a 7.94 ERA with a 1.82 WHIP through 17 games this season.

Colome threw a perfect ninth inning, recording one strikeout, to pick up the save in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Twins.

Colome was the eighth and final pitcher of a bullpen game for the White Sox. He came on to shut down the Twins in the bottom of the ninth inning after rookie Zack Collins provided insurance with a solo home run in the top of the inning. He recorded his 28th save in 30 opportunities.

Harvey will not pitch again this season, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports.

The decision to shut him down is precautionary after he didn't bounce back from his last appearance (Sept. 13) as the Orioles would have hoped. He has a lengthy injury history and dealt with biceps soreness earlier this year, so it makes sense for Baltimore to play it safe. Harvey will not need to undergo any tests on his arm. He pitched 82 innings across stops at Double-A (as a starter), Triple-A and the majors (both as a reliever). The expectation is that Harvey will work as a reliever next year. He could figure into the ninth-inning mix.

Law allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks in the ninth inning to earn the save Wednesday against the Orioles.

Law was called upon to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning. He made things interesting by allowing four of the first five batters he faced to reach base prior to recording the final out with the bases loaded. He now has five saves on the season, though Ken Giles is still in place as the team's primary closer. That leaves Law with inconsistent save opportunities at best to close the season.

Robles did not allow a run and gave up one hit while striking out two Wednesday to notch the save against the Yankees on Wednesday.

His 22 saves are good for 18th most in baseball. He is under team control through the 2021 season and should be the closer for the foreseeable future.

Peters gave up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings Wednesday against the Yankees. He did not factor in the decision.

In three starts this month, Peters has logged a total of 11.1 innings and has not topped 4.1 innings in a start. He could make two starts next week (A's, Astros) if the Angels leave the rotation as is.

Farmer (chest) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Cleveland.

Farmer left Monday's game against the Orioles due to an accelerated heartbeat and dizziness, so it was good to see the righty put the scare behind him and return to the mound in fairly short order. The Tigers may monitor Farmer more closely over the final 11 games of the season, but it appears he should be able to resume his normal relief role to close out the year.

Treinen will not pitch again this season due to a stress reaction in his back, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

One of the top two closers off the board in many mixed-league drafts, Treinen was a massive disappointment. He logged a 4.91 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 58.2 innings while providing 16 saves and six wins, eventually losing the closer's job to Liam Hendriks. Chris Bassitt is moving to the bullpen to help make up for Treinen's absence. Treinen hopes to be available for the postseason. He said he has had the issue for three weeks and thought he could pitch through it before an MRI revealed the stress reaction.

The Astros hope Pressly (knee) will get into a game this weekend against the Angels, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.

That would give him a little over a week to knock some rust off before the postseason. Pressly had a 2.50 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 65 strikeouts in 50.1 innings prior to the injury. Despite that dominance in high-leverage spots, he only has two wins and three saves this season.
