The Blue Jays placed Pearson on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with right elbow tightness, Mike Wilner of Sportsnet 590 The Fan reports.

Pearson admitted his elbow was barking following another poor start in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Orioles, during which he surrendered five runs on four hits -- including three home runs -- while issuing three walks over four innings. Though the rookie said his elbow was feeling better when he met with the training staff early Wednesday, manager Charlie Montoyo confirmed that Pearson would undergo further testing as the Blue Jays look to gain more information about the extent of the injury, per Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca. Since tossing five shutout innings in his MLB debut back on July 29, Pearson hasn't been sharp, posting a 9.53 ERA and 1.85 WHIP over his subsequent three outings. Montoyo said that Pearson's spot in the rotation would be taken by Trent Thornton (elbow), who will be activated from the IL to start one half of Thursday's doubleheader with the Phillies.

Scrubb (1-0) struck out two and walked one in a scoreless 11th inning to pick up the win against the Rockies on Tuesday.

Scrubb finished off an old-fashioned pitching gem at Minute Maid Park, making his ninth appearance of the season, all which have been scoreless. The 25-year-old rookie right-hander has maneuvered around 11 walks (4.17 FIP) in 10.2 innings.

Rogers couldn't lock down the save opportunity against Milwaukee on Tuesday, pitching one inning and allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out two.

Rogers came on in relief of Kenta Maeda, who was in line for a win after not allowing a hit until the ninth inning. Unfortunately, Rogers was unable to preserve a three-run lead, yielding a pair of hits and a walk to allow the Brewers to tie the score. The blown save was the second of the campaign for the southpaw, who now sports a 4.82 ERA and 1.39 WHIP on the season.

Taylor (0-1) allowed three runs on two hits and struck out one in two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Tuesday's versus the Phillies. He also hit a batter.

Taylor entered the game with a two-run lead, but he exited after allowing the tying run to score. Reliever Heath Hembree then allowed his inherited runner to score as well, leaving Taylor with the loss. Tuesday was Taylor's second appearance since returning from the COVID-19 injured list -- he tossed a perfect inning in Monday's loss to the Yankees.

Sulser (1-2) gave up an unearned run on two walks and struck out none in 1.1 innings, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Sulser entered the tie game in the ninth inning and got through it fine, but couldn't get through the 10th cleanly. A Chris Davis throwing error allowed Travis Shaw to score, and the Orioles weren't able to get Sulser off the hook in the bottom half of the inning. The 30-year-old righty has a 3.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 10 strikeouts in 11.2 innings this season.

Bass (1-0) pitched two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three to earn the win in Tuesday's 8-7 extra-inning victory over the Orioles.

Bass was unavailable over the weekend, but he's pitched three scoreless innings in the last two games versus the Orioles. He was able to get the win Tuesday after the Blue Jays put up a run in the top of the 10th inning. Bass has a 2.45 ERA, 0.64 WHIP, nine strikeouts and three saves through 10 appearances. He should continue to be in the conversation for late-inning work when healthy.

Pearson gave up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Tuesday.

Pearson gave up a pair of homers to Anthony Santander and another long ball to Chance Sisco in the outing. The 23-year-old Pearson also struggled with control again, as he's now allowed three or more walks in each of his last three starts. The right-hander has a 6.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 14 strikeouts in 16.1 innings. He'll look to get on track Sunday versus the Rays in his next start.

Hand allowed one hit but struck out the side to record the save Tuesday against the Pirates.

Hand entered the game with a three-run lead in the 10th inning. Even with a runner starting on second base, he held the Pirates scoreless, inducing two swinging strikeouts. After early-season struggles, Hand has not allowed an earned run in any of his last five outings, spanning 4.1 innings. He now has six saves and has generated 10 punchouts across 6.2 frames for the season.

Thornton (elbow) threw live batting practice Tuesday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.

Thornton has already served the required 10 days on the injured list with elbow inflammation, and it appears as though he may not miss much more time. Per Hazel Mae of Sportsnet, he could be activated ahead of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies.

Merryweather was recalled by the Blue Jays for the first time Tuesday.

Merryweather missed most of the last two seasons while recovering from Tommy John surgery and missed the early part of this year due to an oblique strain. He posted a 6.58 ERA in his only taste of Triple-A action back in 2017.
