Raley struck out one and did not allow a baserunner in a scoreless inning to earn the save Thursday against the Rangers.

Raley came in with the Astros up 2-1 and retired the side in order on only five pitches to earn his first save. He hasn't had particularly strong surface results since joining the team Aug. 11, putting up a 5.27 ERA. However, he had a 0.95 WHIP with a 17:4 K:BB across 13.2 frames entering Thursday's contest, so the team may be willing to turn to him in high-leverage situations to close the campaign. Primary closer Ryan Pressly has struggled of late, allowing two earned runs across his last 3.1 frames.

Colome gave up a hit in 1.1 scoreless innings on the way to the save Thursday night against the Twins.

Colome allowed the tying run to reach base with two outs in the ninth inning, but he managed to slam the door by retiring the final batter on a flyout to center. The right-hander has allowed just one run in his last nine appearances, picking up five saves to go along with six strikeouts over that stretch (10.1 innings).

Lopez allowed three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.1 innings Thursday against the Twins. He didn't factor into the decision.

Lopez gave up all three of his runs on solo homers, exiting with one out in the sixth after Josh Donaldson left the yard. Lopez got off the hook for the loss, however, as the White Sox rallied to win 4-3 and clinch a playoff spot. Lopez has allowed three or fewer runs in five of six outings this season, though he's struggled to work deep into ballgames.

Graveman (0-3) allowed three runs on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Thursday, as the Mariners fell to the Giants 6-4.

Graveman inflated his ERA to 8.10 and permitted what ended up being the winning runs. It was only Graveman's seventh appearance of 2020, as he has been battling a bone tumor throughout the summer. He will likely on in a middle-innings relief role for the remainder of the season.

Richards is starting Game 2 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Richards was recalled from the team's alternate training site earlier in the day, and as expected, the right-hander will toe the rubber for Game 2. He's appeared in eight games this season and owns a 5.34 ERA and 1.67 WHIP with 23 punchouts over 28.2 innings.

Pearson (elbow) threw a successful live batting practice session Wednesday but will remain at the alternate training site for now, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The next step in the 24-year-old's rehab remains unclear. Manager Charlie Montoyo said Pearson won't return to the rotation down the stretch, but the team is trying to build him up as much as possible as he returns from the right flexor strain.

Yacabonis cleared waivers and was outrighted to the alternate training site Thursday.

The 28-year-old was designated for assignment earlier in the week but will remain in the organization after going unclaimed on waivers. Yacabonis appeared in two games for Seattle this season and gave up one run on two hits with one strikeout and three walks over 2.1 innings.

Anderson (1-1) was charged with the loss in an extra-inning defeat at the hands of the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing a hit on two runs (one earned) over one inning while striking out the side.

The normally reliable right-hander finally faltered, surrendering a two-run home run to Luis Garcia with inning-opening baserunner Carter Kieboom aboard in the 10th to snap a 2-2 tie. Anderson rebounded to mow down Victor Robles, Michael Taylor and Jake Noll on swinging strikeouts, but he was ultimately saddled with the loss when the Nationals' Kyle McGowin returned the favor against a trio of Rays in the home half of the frame. Despite the stumble, Anderson now has an eye-popping 22:2 K:BB across 13 innings, with just 23 of the 47 batters he's faced successfully putting the ball in play against him.

Stiever will start Friday's game at Cincinnati, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

The 23-year-old allowed one run over 3.2 frames in his major-league debut last weekend, and he'll make his second start in Friday's series opener. Stiever threw 73 pitches during his first start and figures to have a similar workload against the Reds.

Merryweather will serve as the opener Thursday against the Yankees, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.

The 28-year-old has opened two games this season and covered two scoreless frames in each outing. Merryweather has a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB overall this season. Chase Anderson is set to follow as Thursday's primary pitcher.
