Weber retired both of the hitters he faced en route to notching his third hold of the season in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Weber appeared as though he might have earned another look in Boston's rotation after he held the Blue Jays to two runs over five innings Sept. 5, but his last three appearances have come out of the bullpen. With rookie Tanner Houck having entered the rotation this week and Nick Pivetta expected to receive the opportunity to start next week, Weber is expected to fill a relief role over Boston's final nine games.

Fairbanks (5-3) was credited with the win over the Orioles in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday, allowing two hits and recording two strikeouts over a scoreless inning.

Fairbanks labored through a 27-pitch inning, but ultimately, he did enough to come through unscathed and became the pitcher of record when the Rays rallied for four runs in the home half of the frame. The 26-year-old also served as an opener Wednesday against the Nationals, and after throwing a combined 47 pitches in the back-to-back outings, he may need multiple days off before returning to the mound.

Chapman gave up a hit and struck out two in two-thirds of an inning Thursday to record his third save of the season in a 10-7 win over the Blue Jays.

Jonathan Holder started the ninth inning protecting a 10-3 lead, but after he got tagged for two runs and loaded the bases with one out, Chapman got the call and immediately gave up a two-run single to Bo Bichette. The Yankees closer then settled down and fanned the next two batters to end the game. Chapman appears to be back in his usual form -- he's struck out multiple hitters in six straight appearances, posting a 1.59 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB through 5.2 innings over that stretch.

Brasier allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning to earn his ninth hold in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Marlins.

Quietly, Brasier has emerged as a go-to setup man for Boston manager Ron Roenicke. He's allowed just one run with 21:7 K:BB over his last 15 appearances spanning 16 innings, filling an eighth-inning role that was supposed to be handled by Josh Taylor (shoulder) and/or Darwinzon Hernandez (shoulder).

Heuer (3-0) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings to record the win Thursday against the Twins.

Heuer was the pitcher of record when the White Sox plated two runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and clinch a playoff spot. The 24-year-old right-hander has not allowed run over his last seven appearances, spanning 8.1 innings. Aaron Bummer's biceps injury has created opportunities for guys like Heuer, Matt Foster and Evan Marshall to work setup in front of closer Alex Colome.

Zimmermann did not factor into the decision during Thursday's loss to the Rays, surrendering five runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two across three innings.

It was a tough MLB debut for Zimmermann, who failed to make it past the third inning, throwing 32 of 53 pitches for strikes. Most of his damage came via the long ball, including a three-run home run by Willy Adames in the first inning and a solo blast by Hunter Renfroe in the third. The 25-year-old, who is not expected to remain in the rotation, posted a 4.89 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 33:18 K:BB across seven Triple-A starts in 2019.

Richards took a no-decision during Thursday's win over the Orioles, allowing four runs on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out four across 3.1 innings.

Richards, who was recalled from the team's alternate training site ahead of Thursday's start, struggled in the second half of Thursday's twin bill. After giving up a pair of home runs and an RBI double, the 27-year-old was lifted after 3.1 innings. The short performance was typical for Richards, who has failed to complete five innings in any of his nine appearances. Overall this season, the right-hander holds a 5.91 ERA and 1.72 WHIP across 32 innings.

Herget will serve as the opener for Friday's game against the Angels.

Herget will likely be tasked with handling the first inning or so in this one, considering he hasn't pitched more than two frames this season. Wes Benjamin is in line to pitch the bulk of Friday's innings.

Phillips was optioned to Baltimore's alternate training site following Thursday's doubleheader against the Rays.

After serving as the 29th man for Thursday's twin bill, Phillips will make his way back to Double-A Bowie, as expected. He looked sharp in Game 2, striking out all four of the batters he faced.

Barnes picked up the save by striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning Thursday night against the Marlins.

Barnes punched out the first batter of the ninth and then induced a pair of lineouts to end the ballgame. He's now converted on five of his last six save chances and has the closer's role well in hand. Barnes owns a 4.35 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with a 29:12 K:BB across 20.2 frames in 2020.
