Barreda was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk following Saturday's doubleheader against the Blue Jays, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com
Barreda made his major-league debut Wednesday but will head back to the minors after he allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning in the second game of Saturday's twin bill. The right-hander has made 23 appearances (two starts) with Norfolk this year and has posted a 4.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 34.1 innings.

Blue Jays' Thomas Hatch: Departs with hamstring injury
Hatch exited Saturday's start against the Orioles with a hamstring issue, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports.
Hatch was effective as the starter in Saturday's nightcap, as he allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three in four innings. However, the Blue Jays revealed after his removal that he's dealing with a hamstring injury. The right-hander was on the active roster as the 29th man, and the severity of his injury isn't yet clear.

Blue Jays' Tayler Saucedo: Optioned to Triple-A
Saucedo was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo ahead of Saturday's nightcap against the Orioles, Mitch Bannon of SI.com reports.
Although Saucedo wasn't used in Saturday's matinee, he'll head to the minors after Anthony Castro was recalled to provide an extra arm in the bullpen. The 28-year-old made 12 relief appearances during his stint with the major-league club, and he recorded a 7.20 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 10 innings.

Rangers' Joe Barlow: Picks up fifth save
Barlow allowed a hit and nothing more over an inning of work, picking up the save in Saturday's 8-6 win over the Athletics.
Barlow navigated around a Seth Brown single to obtain his fifth save of the season. Through 23 appearances this year, the rookie right-hander has allowed earned runs in only three outings. He figures to be one of the Rangers' top closing options to finish off the season.

Orioles' Marcos Diplan: Sent down Saturday
Diplan was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday.
Diplan gave up two runs on two hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning in Saturday's matinee against the Blue Jays, and he'll head to the minors ahead of the second game. Right-hander Spenser Watkins was recalled from Norfolk to take his place in the bullpen.

Athletics' Andrew Chafin: Stuck with loss
Chafin (1-3) allowed one run on one hit over one-third of an inning, taking the loss in Saturday's 8-6 defeat to the Rangers.
Chafin entered the game in relief of Sergio Romo, who was chased after the Rangers touched him up for three runs to pull within one of the Athletics. Chafin didn't fair much better than his bullpen mate, as he coughed up a two-run homer to the first batter he faced in Jonah Heim that put Texas ahead for good. Despite Romo being charged with four runs on the day, Chafin took the loss, as Heim ended up being the winning run. Even with this latest blemish, the left-hander still carries a 1.27 ERA since joining the Athletics from the Cubs in July.

Rangers' Brett Martin: Picks up fourth win
Martin (4-4) worked a perfect inning en route to his fourth win of the season in Saturday's 8-6 victory over the Athletics.
Martin needed just 10 pitches to retire Josh Harrison, Starling Marte and Matt Olson on groundouts. In nine appearances (nine innings pitched) against Oakland this season, Martin has yet to allow an earned run.

Angels' Chris Rodriguez: Won't return in 2021
Rodriguez (lat) has been ruled out for the season, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Rodriguez landed on the 7-day minor-league injured list with a lat strain Aug. 14, and he wasn't expected to have enough time to return as a starter. Manager Joe Maddon said Saturday that the right-hander won't return in any capacity in 2021. Rodriguez made 15 appearances (two starts) in the majors this year and generated a 3.64 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 29.2 innings.

Payamps was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Saturday.
Scott Blewett was recalled to take his place in the bullpen. Payamps has a 4.22 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 10 strikeouts in 10.2 innings over his last 10 appearances.

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Could return next weekend
Barnes (COVID-19) could rejoin the Red Sox next weekend against the Orioles, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
He will make a couple rehab appearances for Triple-A Worcester prior to returning to the majors. It's unclear if Barnes will assume the closer role upon his return or whether the Red Sox will go with a committee.
