Smeltzer (1-0) allowed one run on five hits and a walk over 5.1 frames while earning a win over the Royals on Friday.

Smeltzer allowed a run in the first inning and looked dominant for the rest of his outing. He tossed 47 of 74 pitches for strikes but he failed to record a strikeout. The 26-year-old has given up two runs through 10.1 in two MLB starts this season. Smeltzer is currently projected for a rematch with the Royals at home next week.

Kittredge has been bothered by a back injury recently and didn't pitch in Friday's extra-innings loss to the Orioles, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Although Friday's matchup lasted 13 innings, manager Kevin Cash wanted to stay away from Kittredge due to his back issue. It's not yet clear whether the right-hander will be available later in the series against Baltimore, but Brooks Raley could see more save chances if Kittredge isn't healthy.

Lakins was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation Friday, retroactive to May 12, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Lakins was sent down Thursday, but he'll have his option reversed after being placed on the injured list. He'll be sidelined until at least late May, but it's not yet clear whether he'll be forced to spend more than the minimum of 15 days on the IL.

Quijada (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Inland Empire on Saturday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Quijada threw 20 pitches while facing live hitters Tuesday, and he'll return to game action with a minor-league affiliate this weekend. The southpaw hasn't pitched in a game since Opening Day, so it seems likely that he'll require multiple rehab appearances prior to being reinstated from the injured list.

Pearson (illness) could begin a rehab assignment soon, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Pearson has been going through a full ramp-up program after being sidelined with mononucleosis during spring training. He pitched in an extended spring training game this week and continues to make progress towards returning in a bulk role.

Green's forearm injury is feared to be a significant one, Laura Albanese of Newsday reports.

Green exited Thursday's game against Baltimore with what has so far been called right forearm discomfort, but forearm issues can sometimes be the first sign of an injury which will require a very lengthy absence and possibly even Tommy John surgery. It looks as though the Yankees fear that Green's could be in that category, but the righty will need to go through further tests before a clearer diagnosis emerges.

Mayza's MRI on his left forearm came back clean Friday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

When Mayza sought a second opinion, it appeared to be ominous news, but he and the Blue Jays both maintained that they were optimistic about his prognosis. That optimism now appears warranted. He'll be reassessed Sunday and could start throwing early next week if all goes well.

Sborz was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday.

Sborz has struggled through 8.1 innings of relief this season, walking 15.0 percent of opposing batters en route to a 10.80 ERA. Nick Snyder was called up to take his place in the bullpen.

Romano (illness) will likely be available for Friday's game against the Reds, Scott Mitchell of TSN.ca reports.

The right-hander has been dealing with a gastrointestinal infection since Monday, but the issue was treated with antibiotics this week and he's expected to be ready for Friday's series opener against the Reds. Assuming Romano is at full strength, Adam Cimber would revert to a setup role after serving as the interim closer.

Vest was placed on the injured list Friday after he tested positive for COVID-19, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

It seemed likely that Vest was in the league's COVID-19 protocols after he was placed on the injured list without a designation Friday. Since he's tested positive for the virus he'll need to clear the league's protocols before he's eligible to rejoin the team.
