Barlow was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right index finger blister.

He threw a scoreless inning Wednesday after being sidelined for over a month with a blister on the same finger, so don't assume it will be a minimum stay for Barlow. A.J. Alexy was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock in a corresponding move.

Strahm (wrist) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Strahm will return to the Red Sox bullpen after missing just over a month while nursing a bruised left wrist. The left-hander will likely be eased back into action but he should find himself back in a high-leverage role in the near future. Josh Winckowski was optioned to Worcester on Thursday to open a roster spot for Strahm's return.

Gillaspie was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Gillaspie will return to Norfolk after being called up Sunday. He appeared in two games during his short stint in the big leagues, tossing 1.2 scoreless frames while allowing two hits and striking out a batter. Gillaspie will remain a top candidate to rejoin the Orioles' bullpen at some point down the stretch.

Vespi was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Vespi will return to the big leagues after being sent down Saturday. The left-hander has produced a 3.98 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 24 punchouts over 20.1 innings in 18 appearances with the Orioles this season. Since the beginning of July, Vespi has compiled a 2.08 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 8.2 frames in eight games with Baltimore.

Castro (shoulder) won't begin throwing from a mound for about a week, Max Goodman of SI.com reports.

Castro recently began playing catch and throwing on the field, but he isn't quite ready to resume work from the mound. The righty reliever is recovering from a right shoulder strain and last saw game action July 10. Castro is on the 60-day IL, so he won't be able to return to the Yankees until Sept. 9.

Lakins (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment at the Orioles' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Saturday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Lakins has been sidelined with right elbow inflammation since May 20, and he suffered a setback in his recovery shortly before the All-Star break. However, he's trending in the right direction once again and will return to game action in the minors this weekend. The right-hander will likely require multiple rehab appearances prior to rejoining the Orioles, but he should be in the mix to return in late August or early September.

Wells (elbow) had his rehab assignment transferred to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Wells' rehab assignment was transferred to Double-A Bowie last week, and he struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings Sunday. It's not yet clear how many more rehab appearances the southpaw will require, but he seems to be closing in on his return.

Winckowski was optioned to Triple-A Worcester after Thursday's loss, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Winckowski returned to Triple-A after he gave up six runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings against the Pirates on Thursday. The right-hander owns a 5.19 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with 36 strikeouts over 60.2 innings in 12 starts for the Red Sox this year. The transaction opens a roster spot for Matt Strahm (wrist), who's expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list Friday.

Honeywell (elbow) is slated to pitch two innings for Single-A Stockton on Friday and shift his rehab assignment to Triple-A Las Vegas next week if all goes well, the team's official site reports.

The talented but oft-injured right-hander was solid over a 14-pitch inning in his rehab debut with the Ports on Tuesday, and he'll now have a chance to bump up his workload Friday. Honeywell will face a good litmus test once he shifts to the Pacific Coast League for the next phase of his rehab assignment, given the hitter-friendly conditions in that circuit.

Patino was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Patino will return to Durham after being called up to start Thursday versus the Royals. The right-hander tossed 5.2 scoreless innings, surrendering four hits and two walks while striking out four on his way to a win. Kevin Herget will replace him on the major-league roster and is set to make his MLB debut as a 31-year-old. Patino will remain a top candidate for a call-up down the stretch.
