Mayers did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's extra-innings loss to the Rays, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out five.

Mayers was effective in his first start of the season Wednesday, as he held the Rays scoreless with just 78 pitches through five innings. He struggled a bit with command, as he only threw 46 pitches for strikes and walked three. However, he also struck out a batter per inning. Mayers lowered his ERA to 4.46 with the start, but he still figures to be a risky play for fantasy managers, as he had just three career starts in six MLB seasons coming into this year.

Cimber (10-5) earned the win in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Red Sox. He allowed one hit in a scoreless inning without recording a strikeout.

Cimber had little trouble in the ninth inning, retiring the Red Sox on just eight pitches to send the game to extras. The Blue Jays would end up winning after George Springer hit a double to score Jackie Bradley in the 10th. Amazingly, the reliever now has 10 wins on the season to go along with four saves and 13 holds.

Romano picked up the save in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over Boston. He walked one and recorded one strikeout in a scoreless 10th inning.

Romano worked around the top of the Red Sox lineup in the 10th inning to pitch a scoreless inning and record the save, his 27th of the season. The 29-year-old has now lowered his ERA and WHIP to 1.50 and 0.58, respectively in the second half, a span during which he has just one blown save. He should continue seeing save opportunities down the stretch as the Blue Jays look to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Houston manager Dusty Baker said Pressly (neck) isn't expected to be available for Wednesday's game against Minnesota, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.

The 33-year-old was unavailable for Tuesday's save opportunity due to neck stiffness and won't be an option for Baker again Wednesday. Pressly dealt with a similar neck issue earlier in August but was able to return to action within a few days. Rafael Montero is the likely candidate to step in for any potential save chances, though it was Bryan Abreu who locked down a one-out save Tuesday.

Staumont was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with right biceps tendinitis, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.

Staumont has surrendered 10 runs in his past four outings and will now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks due to the tendinitis. He also threw a career-high 42 pitches over 1.1 innings Tuesday versus Arizona. The 28-year-old will be eligible for activation Sept. 9.

Misiewicz was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Misiewicz was traded from the Mariners to the Royals at the beginning of August, but he's spent the last few weeks at the Triple-A level. He made 17 relief appearances in the majors earlier in the year and posted a 4.61 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 13.2 innings and should serve mainly as a middle reliever in Kansas City's bullpen.

Snider was recalled from Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.

Snider returned to the majors Saturday and tossed 1.1 perfect innings against the Rays that same day. He was sent down Tuesday but will rejoin the major-league bullpen in response to Josh Staumont's (biceps) placement on the 15-day injured list Wednesday.

Sands was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow contusion Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Sands was hit in the elbow by a comebacker during Tuesday's loss to the Astros, and the issue will force him to miss at least two weeks. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but Devin Smeltzer was recalled Wednesday to take his place on the active roster.

Smeltzer was recalled from Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Smeltzer was sent down Monday but will rejoin the Twins two days later after Cole Sands (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Smeltzer has made 12 of his 13 appearances in the majors this year as a starter, but he'll likely provide length out of the bullpen now that he's back with the big-league club.

The Red Sox optioned Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday.

For the second time in a week, Winckowski will be sent back to the minors after giving up exactly six earned runs in a start. His latest outing came Tuesday, when he was lifted after just two innings while entering the rotation for the injured Nathan Eovaldi (shoulder). Brayan Bello (groin) was activated from the 15-day injured list in advance of his start Wednesday and looks poised to fill Eovaldi's spot in the rotation moving forward now that Winckowski is out of the picture.
