Romano (5-3) picked up the win in Thursday's extra-inning victory over the Red Sox, giving up two hits and a walk over two scoreless innings while striking out two.

The Toronto closer entered a tie game in the ninth inning and stifled Boston's offense, emerging with the win when the Blue Jays pushed across a run in the top of the 10th. Romano has a 1.29 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, 13:3 K:BB, two wins and seven saves over 11 appearances since the All-Star break, and with the Jays fighting for a wild-card spot, he's likely to continue seeing a heavy workload down the stretch.

Payamps was diagnosed with a left calf contusion after leaving Thursday's game against the Yankees, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Payamps exited Thursday's contest after being struck by a comebacker and being helped off the field, and it's unclear if he'll be available for the rest of the series versus New York this weekend. It was the 27-year-old's second appearance for Oakland after being claimed off waivers from the Kansas City last week.

Hendriks blew the save in Thursday's 4-3 extra-innings loss to the Orioles. He allowed one unearned run on one hit while striking out two over one inning.

After Adam Engel dropped a pop fly in foul territory that would have been the final out of the game, Hendriks gave up a solo homer to Kyle Stowers with two outs in the ninth inning to relinquish Chicago's one-run lead and force extras. The closer has allowed home runs in back-to-back appearances, and the blown save breaks a streak of converted saves on 19 consecutive opportunities for the 33-year-old, with his last blown save prior to Thursday coming May 14.

Montero recorded a save against the Twins on Thursday by striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

Closer Ryan Pressly (neck) went on the 15-day injured list Thursday afternoon, and Montero was given the first opportunity to close in his stead. The right-hander didn't disappoint, retiring the side in order on 16 pitches in the ninth inning. Montero is 8-for-10 in save chances this season, and he'll likely see a majority of Houston's closing opportunities for as long as Pressly remains out of action.

Munoz did not allow a baserunner and struck out three across 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save Thursday against the Guardians.

Munoz entered the game in the eighth inning with the tying run on base, but he struck out Jose Ramirez to end the threat. He then worked through the final frame with minimal difficulty to pick up his third save of the season. It was Munoz's first save since Aug. 2, and since then Erik Swanson has collected one save and Paul Sewald three. Though Munoz doesn't appear to be in line to serve as the regular closer, he has an excellent 2.47 ERA and 82:13 K:BB across 51 innings on the season.

Payamps was hit by a comebacker in his leg and had to be helped off the field Thursday against the Yankees, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Payamps completed an inning of work in the midst of a 13-4 deficit prior to being forced to exit. It's unclear whether the injury will force Payamps to the injured list.

Chargois will serve as an opener Friday against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Chargois has made two appearances since returning from the injured list Tuesday. He's worked one inning on each occasion, so he should not be expected to pitch deep into the game Friday. Ryan Yarbrough will pick up the bulk of the innings.

Holmes (back) remains on track to return from the injured list Aug. 29, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Holmes has played catch and thrown a bullpen session in recent days, and he reportedly is still feeling well. That puts him in line to return after a minimum stint on the injured list. Holmes' role upon his return is not clear as he allowed seven earned runs across his last four innings prior to going down, though he could be a source of saves with Scott Effross (shoulder) also sidelined.

Weissert's contract was selected from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Thursday.

Weissert has served as a high-leverage reliever at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year, earning 18 saves while posting a 1.76 ERA and 0.89 WHIP in 46 innings over 40 relief appearances at the Triple-A level. The right-hander hasn't yet made his major-league debut and will likely pitch mainly in lower-leverage situations with the Yankees given the depth of the team's bullpen.

Martinez was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The right-hander was sent down by the Astros in mid-August but will rejoin the big-league club Thursday with closer Ryan Pressly (neck) heading to the injured list. Martinez has appeared in 23 MLB games this season and has a 2.48 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 31:13 K:BB across 32.2 innings this season.
