  • Tim Herrin RP | CLE

Guardians' Tim Herrin: Joining 40-man roster

Herrin was added to the Guardians' 40-man roster Tuesday.

Herrin split the 2022 campaign between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus, and he finished with a 4.02 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 101:23 K:BB across 69.1 innings.

  • Javy Guerra RP | ATL

Rays' Javy Guerra: DFA'd by Tampa Bay

Guerra was designated for assignment by the Rays on Tuesday.

Guerra appeared in 18 games between the Padres and Rays last season and had a 5.00 ERA and 10:11 K:BB across 18 innings. He won't retain his spot on the 40-man roster with Tampa Bay clearing space for prospects ahead of the Rule 5 draft.

  • Colby White RP | NYY

Rays' Colby White: Protected from Rule 5 draft

White (elbow) was added to the Rays' 40-man roster Tuesday.

White underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2022, but the Rays will still protect him from the Rule 5 draft by adding him to the 40-man roster. The 24-year-old had a 1.44 ERA in 43 games across four minor-league levels in 2021, and he could be ready for game action during the middle of next season.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: DFA'd by Tampa Bay

Yarbrough (oblique) was designated for assignment Tuesday by the Rays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The left-hander finished the season on the injured list with an oblique strain, and it appears the Rays won't be tendering him a contract for 2023. Yarbrough was an effective rotation piece across his first three big-league seasons, but he struggled over the past two years and had a 4.50 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 61:22 K:BB in 80 frames during 2022.

  • Brendan White RP | SEA

Tigers' Brendan White: Joins 40-man roster

White was added to Detroit's 40-man roster Tuesday.

White spent 2022 at Double-A Erie and had a 2.67 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 73:17 K:BB across 67.1 innings. The Tigers added him to the 40-man roster in order to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.

  • Seth Johnson RP | ATH

Orioles' Seth Johnson: Added to 40-man roster

Johnson (elbow) was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster Tuesday.

It's a testament to Johnson's stuff that the Orioles not only traded for him at the deadline in the three-team trade that sent Trey Mancini to Houston and Jose Siri to Tampa Bay while knowing he needed Tommy John surgery, but they will protect him from the Rule 5 draft while he recovers despite the fact he has never pitched above High-A. Given the timing of the surgery and Johnson's lack upper-level work, it will be a small margin of error for him to make it as a big-league starter, but he could be a devastating reliever if his stuff returns to pre-injury form.

  • Drew Rom RP | ATH

Orioles' Drew Rom: Added to 40-man roster

Rom was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster Tuesday.

One of Baltimore's top lefty pitching prospects, Rom missed plenty of bats last year at Double-A and Triple-A (144 strikeouts in 120 innings), but he also had a 1.48 WHIP. More development is needed before he can be expected to have sustained success against big-league hitters, but he could make his big-league debut sometime in 2023.

  • Owen White RP | CHW

Rangers' Owen White: Joins 40-man roster

White was added to the Rangers' 40-man roster Tuesday.

One of the Rangers' best pitching prospects, White was great at High-A and Double-A last season before forearm fatigue shelved him for most of the second half. If White can stay healthy and handle a starter's workload (career-high 80.1 innings last season), he could be a mid-rotation starter.

  • Jose Soriano SP | TOR

Angels' Jose Soriano: Joins 40-man roster

Soriano was added to the Angels' 40-man roster Tuesday.

Soriano made only seven appearances between rookie ball and Single-A during the 2022 campaign, as he was sidelined for the first four months of the season while he rehabbed from Tommy John surgery. The Angels moved him to the 40-man roster in order to protect him from the upcoming Rule 5 draft.

  • Brandon Walter RP | HOU

Red Sox's Brandon Walter: Shielded from Rule 5 draft

Walter was added to Boston's 40-man roster Tuesday, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

The 26-year-old southpaw dominated in nine starts at Double-A (2.88 ERA, 68:3 K:BB in 50 innings) before struggling in two starts at Triple-A and missing the rest of the season with a neck strain. He has resumed throwing and should be ready for spring training. If Walter regains his form from Double-A, he could pitch in the big-league rotation in 2023.
