  • Blake Taylor RP | TEX

Astros' Blake Taylor: Shifts to injured list

Taylor (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27.

Taylor didn't appear in any spring training games due to a left elbow strain and isn't available to begin the season. He also missed time due to an elbow issue last year, and it's unclear how long he's expected to be sidelined.

  • Astros' Parker Mushinski: Goes on 15-day IL

Mushinski was placed on the 15-day injured list by the Astros on Thursday with a lumbar spine muscle spasm.

Mushinski first started experiencing back spasms in late February. He doesn't appear to have resumed a throwing program yet, so he figures to be on the shelf a while.

  • Matt Foster RP | CHW

White Sox's Matt Foster: Sent to 15-day injured list

The White Sox placed Foster (forearm0 on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

The injury cropped up for Foster in mid-March. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined, but he remains shut down from throwing for the time being.

  • White Sox's Garrett Crochet: Moves to 15-day IL

The White Sox placed Crochet (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Crochet missed all of 2022 and will get a late start to 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He's throwing off a mound, though, and it would seem to be a good sign that he hasn't been placed on the 60-day IL.

  • Tanner Banks RP | PHI

White Sox's Tanner Banks: Sent to Triple-A

The White Sox optioned Banks to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday.

Banks missed out on an Opening Day bullpen assignment but should get his opportunity soon enough. He posted a 3.06 ERA over 35 appearances last season.

  • Jose Leclerc RP | SD

Rangers' Jose Leclerc: First in line to close

Leclerc is likely to see the save opportunity for the Rangers should one arise Thursday against the Phillies, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Leclerc has been seen as the favorite to close for a while, but his velocity was down this spring and manager Bruce Bochy had hedged his bets previously. However, it does appear the right-hander is indeed at the top of the pecking order. Will Smith, Jonathan Hernandez and Ian Kennedy could be options to close if Leclerc stumbles.

  • Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA

Athletics' Freddy Tarnok: Goes to IL with shoulder strain

The Athletics placed Tarnok on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.

Tarnok was first injured in mid-March and it's unclear how much time he might miss. He'll likely be assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas once he's deemed healthy.

  • Cody Morris RP | NYY

Guardians' Cody Morris: Placed on 60-day IL

The Guardians placed Morris on the 60-day injured list with a right teres major strain.

The move rules Morris out though at least late May. He's been sidelined since February and doesn't seem to have started a throwing program yet.

  • Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS

Yankees' Tommy Kahnle: Move to IL official

The Yankees placed Kahnle (biceps) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

After recently receiving a cortisone injection to address tendinitis in his right biceps, Kahnle could be cleared to begin a throwing program soon, though he'll essentially have to complete spring training all over again since he's already been sidelined for more than three weeks with the injury. Barring any setbacks once he starts throwing again, Kahnle could be cleared to make his 2023 debut out of the Yankees bullpen in late April or early May.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Yankees' Lou Trivino: Opens season on IL

The Yankees placed Trivino (elbow) on the 15-day injured list Thursday.

Trivino is dealing with a ligament strain of his right elbow and is expected to miss around a month, though the 31-year-old is leaving the door open for a potential debut before the end of April. When healthy, Trivino is likely to serve as a middle-relief or setup arm out of the New York bullpen.
