Tigers' Jason Foley: Notches first career save

Foley struck out one in a perfect ninth inning during the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader to record his first career save in a 1-0 win over the Guardians.

Alex Lange picked up the win in the matinee, so Foley got the call in the nightcap and breezed through the top of the Cleveland order, striking out Jose Ramirez to end the game. The right-hander has arguably been Detroit's most effective reliever so far in 2023, posting a 1.13 ERA and 8:3 K:BB through eight innings with three holds, and if Lange falters as closer, Foley could be the next man up in the role.

  • Alex Lange RP | KC

Tigers' Alex Lange: Notches win in matinee

Lange (1-0) picked up the win in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Guardians, giving up one hit and striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.

With the score tied 3-3, Lange came in to face the bottom of the Cleveland order and worked around a two-out double by Tyler Freeman. The right-hander then got rewarded for his efforts when Kerry Carpenter launched a walkoff homer in the bottom of the frame -- the third straight game the Tigers won in walkoff fashion, tying a club record. Lange hasn't had many save opportunities so far, but he's been effective if not exactly dominant when called upon, posting a 2.35 ERA and 5:4 K:BB through 7.2 innings.

  • Adam Oller RP | MIA

Athletics' Adam Oller: Back in majors

Oller was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Just four days after being optioned to the minors, Oller will return to the major-league roster as Dany Jimenez (shoulder) lands on the 15-day IL. Oller allowed seven runs in 2.1 frames during his last appearance and has historically struggled in the majors, giving him virtually no fantasy value at this point.

  • Dany Jimenez RP | ATL

Athletics' Dany Jimenez: Placed on IL with shoulder injury

Jimenez was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained right shoulder Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle reports, retroactive to April 17.

Jimenez blew his save chance Sunday against the Mets and didn't pitch during Monday's 10-1 loss to the Cubs. Adam Oller has been recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move. While Jimenez is out, Trevor May is likely to handle the majority of save chances.

  • Andres Munoz RP | SEA

Mariners' Andres Munoz: Rehab assignment coming

Munoz (shoulder) will throw off a mound Tuesday and will begin a rehab assignment soon, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.

No word yet on when exactly his assignment will begin or how long it will last, but Munoz certainly seems to be trending in the right direction. The 24-year-old reliever is eligible to return from the IL on Sunday.

  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Returns to Triple-A

Detroit optioned Vest to Triple-A Toledo following Tuesday's doubleheader with the Guardians.

Vest served as the 27th man for the twin bill but didn't appear out of the bullpen in either game.

  • Yankees' Jonathan Loaisiga: To resume throwing this week

Loaisiga (elbow) expects to resume throwing Thursday or Friday, Meredith Marakovits of YES Network reports.

Thursday would be the two-week mark of Loaisiga landing on the injured list with right elbow inflammation, and it appears he's feeling better. The reliever will likely need to go out on a rehab assignment before rejoining the Yankees' bullpen.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

White Sox's Joe Kelly: Throws bullpen session

Kelly (groin) threw a bullpen session Monday, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

It's the first time Kelly has thrown from the bump since he landed on the injured list a little over a week ago with a right groin strain. Seemingly, he should be ready to go around the time he's first eligible for activation.

  • White Sox's Nicholas Padilla: Added as 27th man

Padilla was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte by the White Sox on Tuesday.

Padilla will serve as the 27th man during Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Phillies. The 26-year-old has allowed just one run over his first 7.1 innings with Charlotte this season, although he has issued seven walks over that time.

  • Sam Hentges RP | SF

Guardians' Sam Hentges: Set for rehab assignment

Hentges (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Akron on Wednesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

Hentges has been out all season with left shoulder inflammation but is ready to test things out in game action. If all goes well, the southpaw should be ready to slide back into a setup role for the Guardians before the end of the month.
