  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Leads offense with three RBI

Martinez went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a run scored Wednesday but the Red Sox lost to the Marlins 8-4.

Martinez got the Red Sox on the board in the second with a sac fly to right and would eventually knock in two more after an opposite-field home run in the seventh. It was nice to see Martinez making some solid contact again after he went 1-for-28 in his last seven games. The 33-year-old is hitting .208/.289/.375 with a discouraging five home runs, 22 RBI and 16 runs scored through 44 games and will look to try and turn things around for the final stretch of the regular season.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Rattles off three hits

Dickerson went 3-for-5 with an RBI single and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Mariners.

Dickerson hit a leadoff double in the third inning and came around to score on a Brandon Belt homer. In the fourth, Dickerson plated Mike Yastrzemski with a single and later scored his second run of the game on a passed ball. In his previous seven games, Dickerson was just 3-for-14 with a homer and two RBI. He now has eight homers, 24 RBI, 22 runs scored and a .279 batting average in 42 contests.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Snaps funk with homer

Belt went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 9-3 win over the Mariners.

Belt extended the Giants' lead to 4-0 with his homer off Ljay Newsome in the third inning. The homer ended a 0-for-12 skid for Belt, who now has eight round-trippers on the year. The first baseman has added 24 RBI, 20 runs scored and a .305/.401/.602 slash line in 40 games.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Reaches double-digit homers

Buxton went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

Buxton went deep off White Sox starter Lucas Giolito in the fourth inning. The 26-year-old Buxton has surged lately with five homers, eight RBI and six runs scored in his last eight games. He's up to 10 long balls, 22 RBI, 16 runs scored and a stolen base through 33 contests in 2020.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Cardinals' Brad Miller: Launches seventh long ball

Miller went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and double during the win over Milwaukee in Game 1 of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Miller's seventh homer of the season extended the St. Louis lead to 4-2 in the sixth. He also tallied a double to give him his first multi-hit game since Sept. 2. Though the veteran utility man has gone just 8-for-43 across his last 14 games, he still holds a solid .273/.396/.536 slash line on the campaign.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Sits against southpaw

Ohtani isn't in Wednesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

With left-hander Caleb Smith taking the mound for Arizona on Wednesday, Ohtani will take a seat for the fourth consecutive game. Albert Pujols will take over as the designated hitter once again.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Officially out Wednesday

Stanton isn't starting Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Stanton will receive a scheduled day off Wednesday as the Yankees build him up slowly ahead of the postseason. Gary Sanchez will rest his legs as the designated hitter with Kyle Higashioka starting at catcher.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: Placed on bereavement list

Pederson was placed on the family medical emergency list Wednesday, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Players spend a minimum of three days on the list, though pandemic-related protocols could potentially extend Pederson's absence. Zach McKinstry was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Dodgers' Joc Pederson: On bench against lefty

Pederson will not start Wednesday against the Padres, Jorge Castillo of the Los Angeles Times reports.

While Padres opener Adrian Morejon may not pitch deep into the game, the Dodgers will nevertheless sit Pederson against the lefty. Chris Taylor takes over in left field.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Hitless in return

Stanton went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts in Tuesday's win over Toronto.

Stanton was the only Yankees starter who did not register a hit in the 20-6 rout, but some rust was to be expected after the slugger missed over five weeks with a left hamstring strain. The good news is that Stanton made it through the contest without suffering any setbacks before he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. Per Max Goodman of Sports Illustrated, Stanton will get the day off Wednesday but will be back in the lineup Thursday as part of a plan to build him up slowly.
