  • Nick Solak 1B | PIT

Rangers' Nick Solak: Two hits, RBI in win

Solak went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 9-4 win over Kansas City.

Alarm bells went off earlier this week when the Rangers called up Andy Ibanez and started him at second base in place of a slumping Solak. That was Monday, and Ibanez knocked a three-run home run, but Solak has started all four games since. His .180 batting average and .518 OPS over 41 games dating back to May 8 puts his hold on an everyday job in jeopardy, but for now, he appears to have held onto the starting spot at second base.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Clubs two homers

Torrens went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs and four RBI in Friday's 9-3 win over the White Sox.

The 25-year-old opened the scoring with a two-run blast in the second inning off White Sox starter Carlos Rodon. Torrens added another two-run homer in the seventh off reliever Zack Burdi. Torrens has gone on a power surge lately with five of his six home runs on the season in his last seven games. He's added 15 RBI, 14 runs scored and six doubles across 121 plate appearances this year.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Launches 24th homer

Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday's loss to the Rays.

The two-way phenom continues to dominate at the plate, sending a 453-foot blast in the first innings for his 24th homer of the season. Ohtani has racked up 42 extra-base hits alongside a .996 OPS through 283 plate appearances. He's knocked seven homers over the last nine games.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: MRI reveals hip tendinitis

Canha underwent an MRI on Friday that revealed left hip tendinitis, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Canha was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, and he was further examined to determine the extent of his injury. It's not yet clear whether he'll need to spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the IL, but the team doesn't appear to be too concerned about his diagnosis following the MRI.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Placed on injured list

Belt was placed on the 10-day injured list with right knee inflammation Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Belt was removed from Wednesday's game due to a right knee injury, and he's dealing with inflammation. It's not yet clear when he'll be able to return, but manager Gabe Kapler said that the first baseman could require surgery and will miss more than the minimum of 10 days, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Wilmer Flores and Darin Ruf could see additional time at first base in Belt's absence, while LaMonte Wade was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Sits against southpaw

Dickerson is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Athletics, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Dickerson will retreat to the bench for the third time since being activated from the injured list earlier this week. He figures to be a strong candidate to start in left field Saturday against right-hander Frankie Montas, however.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Remains out Friday

Belt (knee) is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Athletics, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

It was reported Thursday that Belt was likely headed to the IL with a right knee injury, so his absence from Friday's lineup comes as no surprise. The first baseman is still awaiting MRI results and a move to the injured list could very well come prior to Friday's first pitch. Darin Ruf will start at first Base and bat second against southpaw Sean Manaea during the series opener.

  • White Sox's Yermin Mercedes: Remains on bench

Mercedes will sit Friday against the Mariners.

Mercedes finds himself on the bench for the third game in a row. The first two can be explained by the fact that the White Sox were playing in a National League park, but it's possible his playing time is set to slip even when a designated hitter is available. Mercedes hit .364/.414/.557 through his first 40 games, but the wheels have fallen off since then. In his last 26 contests, he's hitting a miserable .122/.184/.167. Yasmani Grandal will rest his legs as the designated hitter Friday, with Zack Collins starting behind the plate.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Placed on injured list

Canha was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left hip strain, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Canha exited Thursday's game against Texas after two plate appearances due to the hip issue. He'll be on the shelf for the at least the next 10 days, though he could be in line for a longer absence, depending on the severity of the issue. Canha has served as the club's primary leadoff hitter this season while spending time at all three outfield positions. Tony Kemp figures to be the top candidate to lead off against right-handers during Canha's absence, with Ramon Laureano and Elvis Andrus possibly seeing starts atop the order against lefties. Seth Brown, Chad Pinder and Skye Bolt could see increased time in the outfield for the time being.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Back in lineup Friday

Cabrera (calf) is back in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Astros, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Cabrera left Tuesday's game against the Cardinals with tightness in his right calf. After sitting Wednesday and Thursday, the slugger is feeling good enough to serve as the DH for the second game of the four-game set.
