  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: On bench Wednesday

Buxton isn't starting Wednesday against the Dodgers.

Buxton will take a seat for the third time in the last five matchups after he went 3-for-9 with a homer, a double, three RBI, a walk and three strikeouts over his last three games. Nick Gordon is shifting to center field while Jake Cave starts in left.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Cabrera isn't starting Wednesday against the Guardians.

Cabrera is out of the lineup for the fourth time in the last seven games after he went 1-for-3 with a strikeout during Tuesday's series opener. Kerry Carpenter is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth during his major-league debut.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: In midst of cold spell

Alvarez went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Rangers.

Though Alvarez hasn't reported any renewed soreness in his hand after he required a stint on the injured list shortly before the All-Star break, the slugger has nonetheless seen his production taper off of late. While starting in each of Houston's last 10 games, Alvarez has hit .139 with one extra-base hit (a double) and 5:9 BB:K. The Astros will continue to let Alvarez work through his struggles, as he'll stick in the lineup Wednesday as the team's designated hitter and No. 3 batter.

  • Kyle Lewis DH | ARI

Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Bound for Triple-A

The Mariners optioned Lewis to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday.

Lewis will surrender his spot on the 26-man active roster to Dylan Moore (back), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and offers more versatility off the bench due to his ability to play both the infield and outfield. Upon returning from a stint on the 7-day concussion IL on July 22, Lewis managed just four hits in 41 at-bats (.098 average) with the Mariners while striking out at a 39.1 percent clip. Lewis had already moved into a bench role last weekend, when Mitch Haniger came off the IL and replaced him as a lineup regular.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

Giants' Joc Pederson: Sitting versus lefty

Pederson will sit Wednesday versus the Padres.

Pederson will take a seat as the Giants face off with the Padres and left-hander Sean Manaea on Wednesday. Luis Gonzalez will slide over to left field while Austin Slater enters the lineup in center field and bats leadoff in the series finale.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Remains out of lineup

Winker (back) isn't starting Wednesday against the Yankees.

Winker is out of the lineup for a second consecutive matchup as he continues to deal with back spasms. He remains day-to-day for now, but Sam Haggerty will shift to left field while Jarred Kelenic starts in center.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Collects two hits in return

Turner went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's 10-3 victory over Minnesota.

Turner returned from a stint on the 10-day injured list to record a pair of hits in the win. He wasted little time getting in on the action, swatting a run-scoring double in the second inning. Fantasy managers who roster Turner will hope that the time away doesn't cool off his bat -- over his past 18 contests, the veteran third baseman is slashing .435/.507/.677 with four home runs and 17 RBI.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Rays' Harold Ramirez: Could soon take BP

Ramirez (thumb) could be cleared to take live batting practice as soon as Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Both Ramirez and Wander Franco (wrist) seem to be at similar points in their recoveries from injuries, as the two have both been cleared to take dry swings and could be ready to take another meaningful step forward this weekend. Ramirez, who has been sidelined since the All-Star break with a fractured right thumb, should have an everyday role waiting for him either at designated hitter or in the corner outfield once he's ready to come off the 10-day injured list. He was hitting .329 with four home runs, three steals, 35 RBI and 31 runs in 78 games prior to being deactivated.

  • Mike Ford DH | MIN

Braves' Mike Ford: Activated and DFA'd

Atlanta reinstated Ford (neck) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and designated him for assignment.

With Ford coming off the 40-man roster and Adam Duvall (wrist) shifting to the 60-day injured list, Atlanta was able to open up spots for infielder Vaughn Grissom and reliever Kirby Yates (elbow), who were both activated in advance of Wednesday's series finale in Boston. It's the fourth occasion in which Ford has been designated for assignment this season, with the Mariners booting him off their 40-man roster twice and the Giants doing so once. The power-hitting first baseman/designated hitter will likely report to Triple-A Gwinnett if he isn't claimed off waivers.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: On bench Wednesday

Morel isn't in the lineup Wednesday against Washington.

Morel started the last two games and went 3-for-8 with a homer, three runs and two RBI. Zach McKinstry will take over at the hot corner and bat sixth Wednesday.
