Blue Jays' Brandon Belt: Resumes hitting
Belt (back) began a hitting progression Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Manager John Schneider noted that Belt may be able to play in a rehab game with Triple-A Buffalo before the minor-league season ends, but it will depend on how quickly Belt is able to recover. The 35-year-old landed on the injured list Sept. 12 due to back spasms and should still be able to make it back to Toronto's lineup before the end of the season.

Blackmon is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Padres.
Blackmon has put together four straight multi-hit games, but it'll be Kris Bryant manning the DH role for the Rockies on Tuesday as they take on tough left-hander Blake Snell at Petco Park in San Diego. Nolan Jones, Brenton Doyle and Hunter Goodman are starting across the outfield.

Rooker isn't in the Athletics' lineup Tuesday against Seattle.
Rooker has slashed .214/.313/.548 with four homers since the start of September, and he'll take a seat for the start of Tuesday's contest. Tyler Soderstrom will fill in as Oakland's DH while Tony Kemp, Esteury Ruiz and Seth Brown start in the outfield.

Nationals' Joey Meneses: Not in lineup Tuesday
Meneses is not in the lineup Tuesday versus the White Sox.
Dominic Smith will start at first base for the Nationals as Keibert Ruiz takes a turn in the DH role and Drew Millas does the catching. Meneses went 0-for-4 in Monday's series opener against Chicago and is slashing just .222/.271/.259 in 59 plate appearances since the calendar flipped to September.

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Not starting Tuesday
Garver is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.
The move to the bench snaps a run of 19 straight starts for Garver, during which he posted an .877 OPS with five home runs, 10 RBI, 12 runs and a 14:16 BB:K. Robbie Grossman will serve as the designated hitter Tuesday while Evan Carter starts in left field.

Cubs' Alexander Canario: Gets first big-league start
Canario will serve as the designated hitter and bat ninth Tuesday versus the Pirates.
Canario has spent most of September on the Cubs' active major-league roster, but this will be his first appearance in the starting lineup. The 23-year-old put up an .866 OPS with eight homers, 35 RBI, two steals and 23 runs scored in 36 games for Triple-A Iowa prior to arriving in Chicago.

Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Moved to 60-day IL
McCutchen (Achilles) was transferred Tuesday from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
This is a procedural move to clear out a 40-man roster spot for the arrival of Kyle Nicolas. McCutchen suffered a partial tear of left his Achilles tendon earlier this month and had already been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 campaign.

Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Four consecutive multi-hit games
Blackmon went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Padres.
Blackmon reached base three times in total, as he was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. He's tallied two hits in each of his last four games, a tally that includes three doubles, a triple, two RBI and four runs scored. The majority of that production came at Coors Field -- the team began a six-game road trip Monday -- and Blackmon has maintained just a .696 OPS away from home this season.

Dodgers' J.D. Martinez: Homers twice in win
Martinez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and five RBI in Monday's 8-3 win over the Tigers.
Martinez opened the scoring with a second-inning solo shot, popped a three-run blast an inning later and tacked on the Dodgers' last run with an RBI single in the seventh. He's gone 13-for-36 (.361) over nine contests since he returned from a groin/hamstring issue that sent him to the injured list in August. The designated hitter is slashing .266/.318/.556 with 28 homers, 91 RBI, 55 runs scored and a stolen base through 101 contests overall.

Rooker is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Mariners.
Rooker homered three times over his last five games, but he will be held out Monday with manager Mark Kotsay loading up on left-handed hitters against Seattle right-hander Bryan Woo.
