Jimenez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Red Sox.

Jimenez made four straight starts from Aug. 3-7 but has not started consecutive games over the past week. Each of his last two starts have been against left-handers, as he now looks to be pegged for a short-side platoon at designated hitter with Ryan O'Hearn.

The Angels designated Calhoun for assignment Thursday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

Calhoun has been the Angels' primary designated hitter and cleanup man against right-handed pitching since he was added to the roster back in early May. However, after slashing just .245/.315/.380 over 254 plate appearances, the Halos have decided to remove him from the 26-man and 40-man rosters. Calhoun seems likely to clear waivers. Manager Ron Washington could opt to filter through multiple players at DH down the stretch.

The Orioles recalled Soto from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Soto was acquired from the Reds at the trade deadline but has yet to see any action with the Orioles. He'll provide more defensive versatility than the player he will replace on the roster in Coby Mayo, who was optioned to Triple-A.

Rooker (personal) is expected to return from the paternity list Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

He'll miss a second straight game Thursday against the Mets following the birth of his new child but Rooker looks like he'll be ready to go coming out of the Athletics' off day Friday for the start of a two-game set versus the Giants. Rooker had put up three straight multi-hit games before going on the paternity list and has a .910 OPS over 38 at-bats in August.

Malloy will start in left field and bat leadoff in Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Malloy had a pinch-hit single in the first game of the series and reached base three times in the second contest after being a late addition to the lineup. That's earned him not only another start in the series finale, but also his first-ever look at the leadoff spot.

Ohtani went 0-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases and a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers.

Ohtani reached on a fielding error from Joey Ortiz in his first at-bat before coming around to score the Dodgers' first run on a Teoscar Hernandez walk three batters later. The superstar slugger would then go on to steal second and third after drawing a walk in his second trip to the plate, giving him 35 stolen bases on the season. It also marked his sixth multi-steal effort of the campaign, and he's now scored at least one run in three straight games. Ohtani is batting just .176 (9-for-51) so far in August, though he's still racked up five homers, 10 RBI, eight runs and seven stolen bases over that stretch.

Schwarber went 1-for-5 with a grand slam in a 9-5 win against the Marlins on Wednesday.

Schwarber struck out in three of his five plate appearances, but he also had the biggest hit in the game, crushing a grand slam in the fourth inning that turned a three-run Phillies deficit into a one-run lead. The long ball was his first in six games since Schwarber slugged three homers against the Dodgers on Aug. 7, and it also snapped a four-game hitless stretch during which he went 0-for-14. Of Schwarber's last 13 hits, nine (six home runs and three doubles) have gone for extra bases.

Pederson went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Rockies.

Pederson set the tone for the Diamondbacks in the 11-4 victory, opening the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. The 32-year-old has started eight of 12 games in August as he continues to platoon with Randal Grichuk. Pederson has excelled this month, batting .324 with four home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and a 6:9 BB:K in 37 plate appearances.

Malloy is starting in left field and batting seventh Wednesday against the Tigers.

The 24-year-old was initally absent from the starting nine Wednesday, but he'll end up receiving a start since Javier Baez (undisclosed) was scratched. Malloy has a .642 OPS through 10 games in August, and he could see a diminished role going forward with Kerry Carpenter back from the injured list.

Stanton is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Stanton will get a chance to rest Wednesday after going 1-for-8 with three strikeouts through the first two games of the series. His absence open up the designated-hitter spot for Aaron Judge while allowing Trent Grisham to start in center field.
