Red Sox outfielder Yoenis Cespedes left Wednesday's game at Cincinnati due to a right hand bruise. Cespedes was 1 for 3 with one RBI and one run before being lifted for pinch hitter Will Middlebrooks in the seventh inning.

Twins rookie first baseman/DH Kennys Vargas connected for his second career home run during a 10-4 loss Tuesday at Houston. It was a solo home run off fellow rookie Mike Foltynewicz in the ninth inning.

Vargas has hit safely in 9 of 11 games since his promotion from the minors. He is batting .283 with a .340 on-base percentage, .435 slugging percentage, .775 OPS, one double, two home runs and nine RBI. He has also struck out 15 times and drawn just two walks.

Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper clubbed his fifth home run Tuesday against the Mets.

Harper struck in his first at-bat. With a man on base, Harper belted a 93 mph fastball to left for the two run shot. He also singled later in the game. Harper finished 2 for 4, with one run scored and two RBI. 

Red Sox outfielder Yoenis Cespedes went 1 for 4 with a two-run home run in his team's 3-2 win over the Reds Tuesday.

Cespedes' homer was huge, as he turned a one-run deficit into a lead in the eighth inning and set his team up to pick up the win. He's homered in back-to-back games while collecting at least one hit in seven straight games and eight of his nine games since joining the Red Sox. Cespedes owns a .256/.301/.467 line with 19 home runs and 74 RBI in 437 at-bats.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton went 2 for 3 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI in his team's 6-5 win over the Cardinals Monday.

Stanton drove a ball into the bullpen in right field for a two-run home run in the first inning before following up in the third with a mammoth to left center field that reached the balcony. He's collected five home runs in the last five games and now owns a share of the major-league lead with White Sox slugger Jose Abreu. Stanton has hit .292/.393/.568 with 31 home runs, 82 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 438 at-bats.

Phillies outfielder Darin Ruf went 1 for 2 with a walk and a two-run home run in his team's 5-3 loss to the Mets Monday.

The Mets took a lead in the top of the fourth inning, but Ruf was able to put his team in front with his shot in the bottom half of the inning, though the Phillies would go on to lose. Ruf has hit ..152/.293/.364 with two home runs and four RBI in 33 at-bats.

The Pirates have officially placed outfielder Andrew McCutchen on the 15-day disabled list on Monday because of a fractured rib, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. McCutchen has been sidelined since Aug. 3 with the injury, He batted .311 with 17 homers and 67 RBI over 412 at-bats.

The Nationals tested the interest in outfielder Bryce Harper and starter Stephen Strasburg by placing them on revocable waivers and pulling them back when they were claimed, per USA Today.

Both have been disappointments this season. Harper has struggled so mightily that some have called for his demotion to Triple-A. Strasburg is coming off a performance in which he yielded seven runs in five innings and has been particularly vulnerable against stronger opponents all year.

Pirates stud center fielder Andrew McCutchen remains out of the lineup Monday night against Detroit. A rib fracture has prevented him from playing since Aug. 3, but the team has hesitated to place him on the disabled list.

Red Sox left fielder Yoenis Cespedes shattered the quiet of a scoreless game Sunday against the Angels with a three-run homer that led to a victory.

Cespedes went deep with one out against premier setup man Joe Smith. It marked his first tater with his new team, but he now has a six-game hitting streak.
